    Louie Louie, oh no
    Me gotta go
    Aye-yi-yi-yi, I said
    Louie Louie, oh baby
    Me gotta go
Fine little girl waits for me
Catch a ship across the sea
Sail that ship about, all alone
Never know if I make it home
    Louie Louie, oh no
    Me gotta go
    Aye-yi-yi-yi, I said
    Louie Louie, oh baby
    Me gotta go
Three nights and days I sail the sea
    Think of girl, constantly
On that ship, I dream she's there
I smell the rose in her hair.
    Louie Louie, oh no
    Me gotta go
    Aye-yi-yi-yi, I said
    Louie Louie, oh baby
    Me gotta go
Okay, let's give it to 'em, right now!
    See Jamaica, the moon above
It won't be long, me see me love
Take her in my arms again
Tell her I'll never leave again
    Louie Louie, oh no
    Me gotta go
    Aye-yi-yi-yi, I said
    Louie Louie, oh baby
    Me gotta go
Let's take it on outta here now
    Let's go!

The Kingsmen were from Portland, Oregon. They went to my high school, Franklin, and I remember them playing this in an assembly in our auditorium. That was a crazy day to say the least. "Louie, Louie" is the Washington State Official Rock n Roll Song! The recording that was released was a single take recorded with only one mic and it was hanging from the ceiling!

"What is he saying?" Haha. That's the point, nobody really knows what he's saying. Supposedly the lyrics were kind of obscene, so singer Jack Ely slurred the words so they couldn't be understood. That didn't stop the FBI from launching a 31 month obscenity investigation. Their conclusion was that the lyrics were undecipherable.
That is the studio version, dubbed to a film.
    Record is from 1963.
The Kingsmen were from Portland Oregon, and most people would describe them as a Garage Band. They were pretty much a one hit wonder. There's not much after Louie Louie.

The lyrics were not raunchy at all. That was the claim,, but the actual lyrics are now well known as it is actually a cover song. Anyone claiming the lyrics are dirty are either flat out lying or honestly believed someone else's lies. The singer was wearing his retainer and he and the entire band was recorded on a single mic so he's slurring and buried in the mix as there was no mix.

If you really want to know the lyrics to Louie Louie, the original version was record by Richard Berry in 1957. The song is somewhat based on Chuck Berry's Havana Moon. The Kingsmen has several other hits, Their remake of Money was the next big hit after Louie Louie. Another big hit was Jolly Green Giant. I like their version of Little Latin Lupe Lu quite a bit. They were a rowdy party band.
The KIngsmen recorded the song in 1963. They hated the recording because the recording was rushed and they made mistakes in the recording. The microphone for the vocals was suspended from the ceiling, so the singer had to lean back and scream the words. There were only 2 other microphones available, one on the drums, and one catching all the sound. Their manager liked the raw sound and released it anyway. The soong got banned on several stations and the FBI investigated the band for twom years because some people claimed the song had lewd lyrics. The FBI concluded that, if the lyrics were indecent, they couldn't be understand, anyway. Luckily, the drummer drops an F-bomb which can be heard clearly on the recording, but the FBI never caught it!
    You can't make this up!

The singer also was wearing braces when recording so that also was a reason for the vocals sounding the way they do

The song Louie Louie was written in mid-fifties, but the Kingsmen released this version in 1963, biggest hit for the group, song best known by this rendition. It's actually the story of a Jamaican sailor coming home, but, as the story goes, the group members were so drunk at the recording session, the lyrics were indecipherable. Somehow, that never mattered to anyone. Everybody just seemed to enjoy the song.

The final line “I tell her I’ll never leave again” had some people thinking “I tell her I’ll lay her again”, which would’ve been scandalous for 1963 (I was nine and like the song then, still do!).

    Louie Louie, oh no
    Me gotta go
    Aye-yi-yi-yi, I said
    Louie Louie, oh baby
    Me gotta go
Fine little girl waits for me
Catch a ship across the sea
Sail that ship about, all alone
Never know if I make it home
    Louie Louie, oh no
    Me gotta go
    Aye-yi-yi-yi, I said
    Louie Louie, oh baby
    Me gotta go
Three nights and days I sail the sea

I smell the rose in her hair.
    Louie Louie, oh no

    Me gotta go
Okay, let's give it to 'em, right now!
    See Jamaica, the moon above

The song is about a sailor who spends three days traveling to Jamaica to see his girl. Richard Berry wrote it in the mid '50s based on a Spanish tune (by a Cuban-American) of "El Loco Cha Cha Cha," but this was a 1963 Kingsmen hit (there was an earlier recording done by Richard Berry & The Pharaohs). The lyrics are almost impossible to understand when they sing them, but here they are:
    Louie Louie, oh no
    Me gotta go
    Aye-yi-yi-yi, I said
    Louie Louie, oh baby
    Me gotta go
Fine little girl waits for me
Catch a ship across the sea
Sail that ship about, all alone
Never know if I make it home
    Louie Louie, oh no

    Louie Louie, oh baby
    Me gotta go
Three nights and days I sail the sea
    Think of girl, constantly
On that ship, I dream she's there
I smell the rose in her hair.
    Louie Louie, oh no
    Me gotta go
    Aye-yi-yi-yi, I said
    Louie Louie, oh baby
    Me gotta go
Okay, let's give it to 'em, right now!
    See Jamaica, the moon above

Take her in my arms again
Tell her I'll never leave again
    Louie Louie, oh no

As others have said, this song was written by Richard Berry, but the riff, as it is presented here, was created by the Fabulous Wailers, from Tacoma, Wa. Everybody in the Pacific.Northwest recorded this song in the 60s, but the Kingsman version was the one that took off. This is what has been labeled Garage Rock, and had it's origins in the Pacific Northwest and Detroit, Mi. It's considered the initial spark of what eventually became punk rock. MANY punk rock acts have covered this song throughout the years. It's also the unofficial (or secondary) song of Washington State, and is played during the 7th inning stretch of every Seattle Mariners game.

You are 100% correct! The "Louie, Louie, Oh, We gotta go, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah Yeah, Yeah, Yeah"!!! Are all that matters to anyone. And the only part everyone knows. The rest is so great and fun and exciting because everybody just makes up their own lines, or just mumbles through like you're drunk! 😂✌

Just a suggestion, you devote Friday’s
to: “Female Friday” which is a good thing.
How’s about devoting one day a week
    to The oldies also?
Anyone that appreciates good music would appreciate songs from the late 50’s through the 70’s. My guess is it would prove very popular to your channel.

Wasn't trying to be rude or mean but all they do is the music you suggested. Maybe I read your original comment wrong. If I upset you I apologize.

No, you didn’t upset or offend me.
I just didn’t know how to take you, but now I got you.
I have made one suggestion for 3 songs
      but nothing became of it.
      So, ... just keep repeating/suggesting?
Don’t you think it would be a good idea to
devote one night of the week for the oldies, from the late 50’s throughout the
70’s like they devote one night for female
      Friday’s?
      Give me your honest opinion.
I’ve always thought that was the best period of music.
So many good songs were from that period that they’ve barely touched on.

Tell me the suggestions you requested and I'll tell you if they already reacted to them. I'm 66 yo and was a teen during the 60's and 70's and I can't think of a hit song they haven't hit on.
