2:08 the crit was not messed up because he rolled out. Its because you attacked him while he was shield broken. If players take damage when a crit is available the crit wont deal damage. Thats why you dont get damage less backstabs.
I wish I got to this vid earlier to complain about these claws. While they're not the worst offender in the dlc, claws of night are still insane compared to vanilla claws. And while the nerf makes them much easier to deal with, I feel like the patch was the wrong way to go about it. Like the title of the video, the damage on these is absurd. Similarly to the pata, they just get everything with zero disadvantages. Compared to every other claw, claws of night have much more damage, more range, a ranged throwing attack, a strong AoW, low weight, low requirements, ignore more shield damage than other hooked weapons like scythe or bloodhound claws, a jump R2 with an easier void-tech window, and they still have bleed build-up equal to physical claws without grease. And while the AoW was oppressive for sure, and I'm somewhat happy with the headshot removal, that wasn't my biggest issue with CoN. Personally, I would lower AR to be more in line with other claws, and keep the headshots for the AoW, but make it significantly harder to land, as well as slightly reducing dmg and HEAVILY reduce the status build-up for the AoW. As I said, my issue wasn't the AoW and the headshots (mostly), it's the ammount of dmg these claws can throw out for near zero effort. Instead, FS left the dmg the same and removed any semblance of possible skill expression by totally removing headshots. We still have the same hand-blenders that we can chuck around, with no nerf to their dmg or bleed build-up. Anyways, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
It's the animation playing when you get hit, the duration varies depending on what you get hit by. It's pretty very important, a lot of concepts depends on it like combos, priority, pressure... Steel says that it's too short for all that, so all the effort #1 made to safely land the first hit gets wasted out by #2 just hitting R1 and being allowed to do damage back.
I don't think it needs a nerf, weapons like this are the perfect STR users dominators, the ash of war is great for punishing their godforsaken heavy attacks, like a pointblank shotgun shot

It makes no sense that this weapon beats every single other claw for like 100 AR while being longer and also having projectiles. Is the pata of claws
The only saving grace is that it´s limited to only dex builds while pata can be slapped on any character
