I think he’d stick with the triple alliance with Germany . Easier to convince the Spanish since their part of the empire would directly revive land, rather than only Italy getting stuff by invading Austria. It also gives them the chance to carve France and get a huge piece of it.

As a Spaniard, I love the idea of a Catholic union between Spain and Italy to form a Roman Empire-style nation. Each nation would retain its language, but Latin would be taught as a secondary language in the schools of both nations to facilitate communication between the new "Hispania" and "Italia". This union could be a new era of glory for the resurgence of one of the largest, most powerful and influential empires, and perhaps with the passage of time other countries such as France, Portugal, Romania or Greece could join this empire, under the truly name of this nations: "Galia" (France), "Lusitania" (Portugal), "Dacia" (Romania) and "Helenia" (Greece). What amadeo would've done however, is to follow the autonomy whim present in puerto rico and cuba, which was initially brought as an idea around 1873, cuba and puerto rico would just be made autonomous regions before they were irl (1897)

    The most opportunistic outcome:
Italy joins the central powers and helps Germany defeat France, asking for the French holdings in the Mediterranean, taking French Morocco, Algeria, Corsica and the French coastline to connect Spain to Italy via a land route. They would invade British Egypt and seek a separate peace with Britain.
The allies would make a secret deal with the Italians: They can keep their conquered holdings if they switch sides and invade Austria-Hungary and Germany, which they would accept. (Haha switch sides joke).
The war front would be fought in the alps rather than France, specially after the Russians lose in the east.
The ottomans, seeking vengeance would accept the German call to arms and join the central powers against Italy.
Italy would hold a defensive ground in the alps, while they launch a combined assault on the ottomans with Britain, Greece and the Arab revolt; eventually beating the ottomans and forcing them to sign a humiliating peace treaty.
The allies would launch a combined offensive into the Balkans, joining up with Romania and Serbia to defeat the Bulgarians and the Austrians.
The Germans, now alone, specially after the Americans arrive, would choose to sign a white peace with the allies.
The humiliating peace terms, would be instead be directed at the Austrians, who actually started the conflict. This would be heavily pushed by Italy, who still resents the centuries of Austrian rule the had to live under. (Maybe the funny moustache man went back to Austria and did a you know what)
Italy would take over ottoman coastline from the Sinai to Antioch, and fulfil the Greek dreams of the Megali idea and establishing a pro-Italian Greek government based out of Constantinople.
Italy would take the Adriatic coast from the Austrians and fracture the Austrian-Hungarian empire, dividing them amongst the other Balkan allies like Romania and Serbia
The Kaiser would become unpopular due to the loss, but would not be deposed by shifting the blame of losing to incompetent allies and the treacherous Italians.
Maybe this is a little too unrealistic. I am MASSIVELY overestimating the Italian army/potential, but it is a quick way to get Italy close to reforming ROME.

Okay, I definitely need a part two in this series.
As for who filiberto is probably going to help...my money is on Britain, France and Russia. For starters, it's a natural step to the so far diplomatic history between them.
Secondly, the Italian nationalists have long ago set their sights on territory with Italian population that belongs to Austria. By reclaiming these parts, filiberto further endears himself to the nationalists by humbling their pompous neighbours. Plus, the ottoman empire, who cannot join any other side but the central powers, is ripe for further territorial loses by filiberto's army (a great step in the restoration of the Roman empire is the recapture of Asia minor)
Not to mention that at this point reclaiming all the territory that belongs to France and Britain is next to impossible.
But I look forward to seeing what you're going to come up with.
And since you're set on historical alternative universes, could you please make one for tsarist Russia as well?
What if tsar Alexander III had lived longer? Or what if Nicholas II was more experienced and strong-willed, set on reform and modernisation?

Triple Entente: Istria,dalmatia,trentino-alto adige, anatolia, (israel, syria), German Cameroon, kenya for German East Africa, part of German New Guinea, yemen, (formosa)
(In case holland had entered the war: partition Dutch East Indies).
In my opinion he would have joined the Triple Alliance because he had more territorial promises and from what I understood what Emanuel Philibert was like and his character was to have territories for the reformation of the Roman Empire and he didn't care so much about alliances.

  • @Sisarone

The two scenarios for the two possibilities are these
    1) Central Power
An Italian-Spanish intervention is a disaster for France, which is now fighting on three fronts in its homeland and two fronts in the colonies, so they fell pretty easy, but there is still a threat: Great Britain.
If Gibraltar and Malta are not captured quickly, the British Navy will be a real thorn in their side and a pretty hurtful one. If the sinking of the Louisiana and the Zimmerman telegram are repeated, the dream of a New Rome is over.
But if they were to (somehow) land in England, victory would be all but assured.
The Italo-Spanish Monarchy obtains Corsica, Nice, Savoy, much of the French Mediterranean coast and many Anglo-French colonies. At this point, when Austria inevitably collapses, the Latins will expand their influence into the Balkans, all the while pushing French monarchists in the hope of adding the French throne to the collection.
    2) Entente
There is fighting both in the Mediterranean against the dying Ottomans and against the Habsburgs, perhaps the Alpine front is more successful and the Italians reach Trieste.
Spanish troops could support the French on the Western Front, while the Italians occupy the Balkans against the Habsburgs, perhaps even Greece if they joined the Central Powers.
In any case, it would be a war of attraction that would probably end as OTL, but with an Italo-Spanish monarchy being elevated to a great power. They get the Irridente Italian lands, Cyprus, some Colonies for Spain and maybe occupy something in Türkiye.
At this point the Latin Monarchy must go for Soft Power in the Balkans and possibly in the former Austrian territories, but Rome could be said to have been truly Restored only if the Savoys also became Kings of France

While remaining with the Central Powers seems the obvious choice, securing Corsica, southern France, and the French colonies in Africa, there's still plenty of territory to secure in Austria-Hungary, the Balkans and, most notably, the Ottoman Empire.
While I don't want to say it's a given, the idea of being on the same side as the Muslim Turks and Protestant Germans, against the nominally Catholic French might be an obstacle to their ambitions, especially given the increasing prominence Catholicism is attaining in the Latin Union. I don't think it'd be a deal breaker, but the idea of reclaiming the Holy Land might be a good incentive to join the Entente.

I suspect that the Latin Kingdom (Italy-Spain) would still join the Allied Powers to reclaim Italian lands still held by Austria-Hungary and to further expand influence in the Balkans for the potential reclaiming of lands controlled by Rome.

@@Videntis.History No worries, the cuban rebellions were very exagerated by the US (when the spanish-american war started the spanish were about to win against the rebelion) and could have been avoided with better management, they happened because the slavers, who controlled half of the island, wanted fredom to practice slavery and the spanish goverment wanted to abolish slavery, the rebelions only got so bad because they also antagonized the industrialist of the island who before that suported the govermnet, you have to understand that cuba had been part of spain for hundreds of years at this point and their culture was almost the same as spain's, selling cuba would be like the US selling Hawaii to China.
If it actually happened you would see the spanish goverment collapse and the king deposed.

Joining the entente makes the most sense for Filiberto. He would probably ask to get Corsica, Savoy, Malta (UK and Italy would have an agreement like the US Cuba for the naval base) for joining them. As Italy’s goals are easier to obtain from Austria and the Ottomans. Italy just has to leverage itself and I can see the UK dropping France in favor of the Latin monarchy. Also the Latin monarchy would begin to forge new economic and cultural ties to South America now that Portugal is basically in the fold.

There are other comments who have mentioned this, but selling Cuba in the 1870s is one of the most unlikely events mentioned in this video. Spain fought repeated wars to keep hold of the island, primarily because it was an actually profitable colony and the loss of that profit likely would impact negatively peninsular industrialization in a very critical moment.
Nonetheless, accepting for the sake of the argument that things have mostly developed as per OTL, Spanish coal could conceivably alleviate in part some of the exceedingly severe issues that plagued Italian industry during WW1. As part of the Entente, that's obviously very easy. As part of the Central Powers, that's a VERY tall order.
But then, with the world wars, the winning move is not to play. Spain made some serious money as a neutral during WW1 and this Latin Monarchy is in a better position to make that very same play.

Honestly if the goal is to further unify both Italy and Spain, sticking the the central powers may make the most sense, with Spanish desires for Morocco (and territory from portugal depending on what alliance they choose to honor) and Italian goals on Corsica & Nice they would both benefit from being on the side of Germany. It may also help Crete gain land from Greece if they are still in the Entente. If they join the Entente it would only favor italy and possibly Crete if they get territory from the Ottomans.
+ no mater how much Austria-Hungary is fun to look back on, they are not long for this world in their current state and will be a easy target later on for a resurgent "roman empire".

  • @Ar-zz5ow
    @Ar-zz5ow 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

Maybe they stay neutral and for this, ask Austria for Istria and tyrol and France Corsica and Nice and Savoy back. If they control Portugal, Spain, Italy and Crete, they indeed are frightening to the eyes of both alliances; they are the third group. And just to show off their power, they attack and invade Greece and Albania. And when one side is loosing, they attack to get back what is theirs and after the war, get also Albania and greece
