    Can't wait to see how you will enter the hatch from deck, stairs , ladder, forward , aft .

      I'm still working out some of those details.

    Magnificently strong as she comes together ...yet light...a rare combination in the cruising world...this design and build out sets the new benchmark for singlehanded blue water sailors .
    Thanks for taking us along Alan

      Thanks Tom. The design certainly gives me confidence in her strength. Looking forward to the sailing side of the adventure.

    You’re a natural teacher. So fun to watch this come along. Your stamina is inspiring! Or convicting 🤔

    After refurbishing a (wonderful) sunken old wooden sailboat that I found, my next build will have to be by 3D printer while I sip lemonade.

    So the bunks will be aft, under the aft deck (no cockpit anymore). Interested to see how you will manage access to the stowage beneath the berths. I take it WR will have no plumbing, you will just draw your water from jerry cans.

    • @RoversAdventure
      @RoversAdventure  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As with all my previous boats, WR will be a plumbing free zone. At least for now.

    you might consider water bladders in lieu of those square jugs, seems like you could get more water in the same volume of space.

      The builder discussed his choice in water containment and storage. Water cans required no plumbing, pumps, valves. Water jugs can also be redistributed as ballast.

      Thanks Lloyd, that's exactly right. Simplicity.

    will you be designing and building a trailer to get her to the water?

    • @RoversAdventure
      @RoversAdventure  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question Kevin. I don't think I will have time so I will be looking for a flat bed trailer and set up some temporary bracing. Do you have any knowledge or suggestions in this regard?

    I am curious. will there be longitudinal oak members to support those heavy “400 lb each”twin keels?
    (Or did I miss that segment?) will there be a structural keel floor grid beyond the 3 2x2 oak beams you initially installed across the hull bottom.thank you for the great presentations!

    • @RoversAdventure
      @RoversAdventure  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are several more structural pieces to go in at this point.

    Hey Alan. Those bunks are gonna be so nice to sleep on. Anyway, I noticed you are smoothing out the fillets using what I assume is denatured alcohol. Have you done any testing to see if this weakens the fillet? I only ask because I have thinned some brands of epoxy in the past and it was surprisingly weaker/softer than normal after it cured. Just curious. I'm sure it's fine.

    • @RoversAdventure
      @RoversAdventure  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes and no. As a thinning agent it does weaken the strength of epoxy. I am using very little to smooth only the surface. It's not mixing into the fillet, just the surface. As always I try to use the minimum amount necessary for the job.

    Sir
    I am in the planning stages of building a Windward 28 by Chesapeake Marine Design and would like to learn from your experience. On the original Wave Rover you mounted an outboard on a transom lift, but at sea it was often not visibly mounted. How did you unmount and store the motor? I assume that you're planning something very similar with.the Wind Rover 650 and if possible I'd like to take advantage of your experience.
    Thank you for your assistance.
    Charlie

    • @RoversAdventure
      @RoversAdventure  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The OB on the WR650 will only be a 2-3hp (so it will be about 35lbs). I have found that, if you run the motor dry of gas it will keep it clean and with no odor. It can then be stored below deck.

    It's really coming together, even if it is March! Now, don't get me wrong, I know you've been there and done that, but how do you survive in the tropics on two litres a day? I live in the tropics and would find four litres very hard, and that's doing nothing and no cooking. Doing hard physical stuff we were supposed to drink a litre an hour, hard to do, granted, but I don't think I was too far off. Camping with cooking, doing very little was ten l.p.d.. I would be reluctant to budget less than six l.p.d. if I possibly could. You're a navy guy, it would be interesting to hear what navy medics have to say about minimums for not trashing your kidneys (a very painful business!) You know what you can get away with, and I'm much interested in your thoughts on this!

    • @RoversAdventure
      @RoversAdventure  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are probably right Professor, I should increase my consumption when in the hot tropics. I plan to take on extra water in the form of bottled water during the extremely long passages to be consumed first, and will gather rain for anything else other than drinking when possible.

    • @prof.heinous191
      @prof.heinous191 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RoversAdventure Thanks for that! I would be tempted to make a large funnel shaped tarp out of rip-stop nylon or similar for rain water catching, I might be suggesting this to Mrs. Rover! ; )
