At a low estimate he spent an extra 3 weeks trying to save her, in reality it could be 2 or 3 times as long if not more. The Okabe who makes it to Steins Gate arguably had it the easiest of all incarnations.

By the time he comes back to see the effects of his past self he’s already in the stein’s gate worldline(best outcome).

The game contains much more content, dialogues and the characters are more iconic, some of them are really different in the game and some characters don't even show up in the anime at all. The anime covers the True Ending route, it feels kinda rushed but still good and serves like some kind of extra content in my opinion. In the game you're always seeing Okabe's point of view and thoughts. Hard to say if you would enjoy experiencing the whole story again but with more details and stuff, you might have to try it, and if you haven't played Steins;Gate 0 and are willing to play, i would recommend you to play the game first then going for the anime.
I believe you should try the other games in the series, Chaos Child is my favorite of the 7, and Steins Gate is designed to trick you into thinking the events of Chaos Head are happening again, at least in the beginning

So at this moment Okabe 1 finally reaches the Steins;Gate line and Okabe 2, from Beta Atractor Field, enters the Alpha Atractor Field! This is just insane!! So these next 3 weeks will be the longest weeks Okabe 2 will have to finally divide into Okabe from Steins;Gate 0 and Okabe 1. However, Okabe 2 or the Okabe who entered the Alpha Atractor Field (or simply as the Okabe from the start of the anime and the past of Okabe 1), can also diverge into many other lines. And I want to emphasize that line in the Gamma Atractor Field where Okabe 2 somehow ended there and discovered he is part of the Rounders and an evil principal villain. I really liked this story because it shows the contrast between the evil Okabe and the kind Okabe from the perspective of the others. But even though he was different, as Moeka said, his true nature hadn't changed. There are many other curious lines like the Epsilon Atractor Fields which covers time lines from 4.000000 to 4.999999ε, that I would like more details. Because in those lines seems like that every problem were fixed (or never happened) as in Steins;Gate line except that there are events and characters Okabe never did meet.
After watching this you realize that, sadly, the Okabe that fakes Kurisu's death won't have the happy ending. Cuz after seeing Kurisu "dead" he sends the d-mail which starts the 3 weeks of hell. He then undoes all of those d-mails and realizes he will have to go back and live in the timeline where Kurisu got "stabbed". But after going back he will see that Kurisu is not actually dead and it will just end up as a misunderstanding. So essentially right before Kurisu is killed in the original timeline, the Okabe who has failed to save Kurisu will change the timeline to the Steins Gate (by faking Kurisu's death), and then the Okabe from that timeline will start the 3 weeks of hell and after that he will come back to the Steins Gate timeline and realize Kurisu is still alive. (The change from Kurisu actually being dead in a pool of blood to Kurisu 'apparently' being dead in a pool of blood is what makes the timeline change to the Steins Gate.) Sadly this means that the Okabe we've followed throughout the whole series will dissapear or die or something.

After watching this you realize that, sadly, the Okabe that fakes Kurisu's death won't have the happy ending. Cuz after seeing Kurisu "dead" he sends the d-mail which starts the 3 weeks of hell. He then undoes all of those d-mails and realizes he will have to go back and live in the timeline where Kurisu got "stabbed". But after going back he will see that Kurisu is not actually dead and it will just end up as a misunderstanding. So essentially right before Kurisu is killed in the original timeline, the Okabe who has failed to save Kurisu will change the timeline to the Steins Gate (by faking Kurisu's death), and then the Okabe from that timeline will start the 3 weeks of hell and after that he will come back to the Steins Gate timeline and realize Kurisu is still alive.
(The change from Kurisu actually being dead in a pool of blood to Kurisu 'apparently' being dead in a pool of blood is what makes the timeline change to the Steins Gate.)
Sadly this means that the Okabe we've followed throughout the whole series will dissapear or die or something.

Kunci kehancuran masa depan ada di tesis mesin waktu yang dipegang nakabachi, jadi buat mencegah hal itu, okabe ngambil metal wooper supaya tesis pas kecelakaan pesawat itu hancur. Lalu kematian kurisu supaya sebagai sebab awal adanya d-mail. Dan okabe yang ditipu ini bakal ngejalanin harian yang sama kayak okabe biasa. Tapi bedanya karena kurisu di situ belum mati dan tesisnya hancur, jadi pas okabe ngulang d-mailnya dan jadi dunia tanpa mesin waktu. Bakal ngerubah dunia jadi garis dunia 1 yaitu Beta karena perbedaan garis waktu yang benar benar menyimpang satu sama lain, dan tidak mungkin disatukan oleh takdir.

@@vorcent_jax metal wooper yang langka kan terbuat dari logam, dia bisa deteksi ada kerusakan di pesawat dan jadinya tesis nakabachi itu selamat. Tesisnya selamat=terjadi mesin waktu dan terjadi kehancuran masa depan dan akhirnya mengulang kejadian di steins gate awal. Tapi kalo metal wooper metal diambil dan cuman metal wooper biasa yang dibawa nakabachi, jadinya mereka gak tau bakal ada kecelakaan pesawat dan tesisnya bakal hancur dan jadi gak ada pembuatan mesin waktu di masa depan

in the VN Okabe himself asks suzuha if he won't see himself from the first time he time traveled back and suzuha claims that it won't happen because that would be a paradox
