Yamato didn't attack a single landing ship at Leyte. That was their mission but they ran into Taffy 3 at the Battle off Samar and the entire Japanese Center Force was turned around by American escort carriers, destroyers and destroyer escorts. My grandfather was on the Gambier Bay, which got sunk and my grandfather was wounded in action. C'mon Wargaming, one of the greatest upsets in naval history and you guys glossed over it like it never happened.
They missed the Richelieu, Littorio, and Vanguard “which were real” unlike the Sovetsky Soyuz. If we are talking about the largest battleships from each of the major nations. Russia never had any that they actually completed. But Britain, Italy and France did. Just thought I’d point that out.
supertamal2000 Yeah but I think they add so many fake Russian ships to attract more Russian players. Their Russian player base is quite scarce. But even after adding more fake Russian ships it still doesn’t seem to be working to how they had hoped. Russian players are still few a far between. I hope wargaming knows that Russians still adhere to “reality” and that they know that their nation had only a small number of “real” historical warships. And wargaming seems to think that by adding fake soviet warships it will attract more Russian players, but like I said it’s not working.
"Russia never had any that they actually completed" isn't exactly correct. Russian Empire built quite a few dreadnought battleships before the revolution. Some of them survived through WWII well into the 50s. Soviet Union on the other hand failed to complete even a single one. Soviets were always better at destroying than they were at creating.
Origami Chik3n What I actually meant was that the “ Soviet Union” never had any that they actually completed. The Russian empire on the other hand completed a total of eight Dreadnought battleships. Three of those would survive to fight in WW2, and two of them earned the order of the red banner! But in terms of building and actually finishing a modern battleship like in this video with Sovetsky Soyuz just didn’t materialize. Soviet industry was so slow that it took nearly three years just to make one gun barrel. The soviets just didn’t have the industrial capabilities, and naval expertise to build such large and sophisticated ships.
What a great bit of trivia, Yamato the ancient name for Japan, meaning Great Harmony, named after a provincial area in Japan. Yamato (Japanese: 大和) was originally the area around today's Sakurai City in Nara Prefecture of Japan, which became Yamato Province and by extension a name for the whole of Japan. Yamato is also the dynastic name of the ruling Imperial House of Japan.
I would really like to visit the Yamato Museum one day. I was able to visit the USS Texas, USS Intrepid, USS Missouri, USS Bowfish, USS Yorktown, USS Arizona Memorial (a truly somber moment. Saw men laying ashes of a sailor who survived and wished to be with his mates again.. heart touching) and a few other subs. I have NOT been able to enter the USS Texas due to the issues when I was there. Hope it gets saved thanks to Wargaming!! WE MUST PRESERVE OUR HISTORY!
Yamato's most crucial design flaws were her older-style longitudinal watertight bulkhead, lateral bulkheads that did not have sufficient watertight integrity above the normal waterline, and armored citadel protection that was too rigid. Yamato suffered more from near-miss bombs than she should have, because the concussions opened some seams along the structure that did not have enough flexibility. Flooding in one compartment would be concentrated to one side because of the longitudinal bulkhead, and the resulting list would eventually lead to greater flooding along that side as water burst through weaker " above-water" bulkheads. Two of the more popular slams against Yamato are that she had weak armor and poor damage control. There is an arsenal test report, easily found online (but not when typing to TH-cam on a cellphone) that vouches for a very high quality of armor. Yamato's damage control during Ten-Go was actually about as good as one could hope, considering the damcon center was destroyed by a penetrating hit. TL;DR:. Yamato in WoWs floods somewhat realistically, but her armor is unrealistically weak.
Some of the metal that went into building Yamato, came from an above ground railway line out of NYC. That metal, wasn't created to withstand the stresses of ocean going. The point? Thicker, bigger, wider, isn't ALWAYS better. Unlike what WG would like to have to believe.
@@artlew6547 That's a tradition that stretches back roughly 300 years. From the Imperial War Museum: "Another tradition is to consider ships as female, referring to them as 'she'. Although it may sound strange referring to an inanimate object as 'she', this tradition relates to the idea of a female figure such as a mother or goddess guiding and protecting a ship and crew." Also according to the IWM, the German Navy has traditionally done the opposite as "their tradition is to name their ships in a masculine or magnificent manner." You can thank Japan for going Rule 63 on German ships. Personally I do prefer to stick with "she" for ships out of tradition.
