    You mentioned about the drives spinning down and bought ironwolf drives ? If I am not mistaken these NAS type drives are designed to be run 24/7 and spinning them up and down shortens their life span? The consumer level barracuda drives are more designed for the power up / down cycles as they're intended for desktop pc's where powering down after a few hours is common place.

    • @JosephKim
      @JosephKim  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are absolutely right. It is because I planned on moving up to a NAS eventually. I also took out all HDDs from my old desktops and put inside this unite off the camera. Sorry that I wasn't clear on that.

    I like that it gives the option to turn on/off HDDs individually. Most other brands don't offer that.
    Btw is there a limit on the size of individual HDDs that it can support? 12TB? 16TB?

      Unplugged sound? What is that? It might be down to your hard disk … plug it directly to your computer and check if it works there. The enclosure is great! I removed all my externals from their plastic cases so I do not need any additional external harddisk all wired and powered. This way combined 4TB, 2x8TB, 18TB & 20 TB. One 8TB was not recognised … but that was down to the harddisk bei g gone. 3x4TB also malfunctioned … but were pretty old with previous malfunctions! Make sure that harddrive is properly formatted.

  • @AL-xx6sp

      Many others like Yottamaster actually never turn off … even after the computer switched off they keep running 24/7 if you do not switch off the whole enclosure. This one here is brilliant as you can chose. The USB 3.1 version goes to sleep when the computer is off.

He's is correct, all my drives are NOT SDD but older mechanical drives, including Sata II (two) drives. The 4 slot USB 3.0 I have has been working like a champ! My favorite part is the clone feature! Windows ALWAYS complains about some system file or hidden file not being able to copy over to the new drive. One and done, where I even EXTENDED the partition for the remaining unused available space! Sadly, I don't have the $300 plus dollars vs the $99, 4 slot one I currently own. Sabrent is the better option … Mediasonic has a 18TB limit. What does ‘connected all times’ mean? You have it running 24/7? Or that you have the enclosure attached all the time, even when computer at rest? The Sabrent usb3.1 version is great, going into sleep when computer does. Other than Yottamaster … running 24:7 even when computer switched off completely.

      Makes little sense this question! Its like any other external hard drive … you plug it in and access the data with your computer. Its an enclosure for external data, not a network drive. To get data to your phone you plug in your phone to copy them or must use a cloud. Or go for a network solution.
