I would gladly be the donor of the 891 😂 got my ticket at the end of November and could use a solid portable rig for pota. Just throwing that out there hahahahahah love the content!
Lol, FT-891 is a solid rig to start on, as well as grow with. You would be starting off right with one. I was fortunate to be able to sell mine to a newly minted Tech who will hopefully put it to use more often than I did.
@ yeah they are solid, prob will snag one for mobile and easy pota. I scooped a 991a cause I thought I wanted a “shack in the box” w/ the ability to do 100w if needed but turns out there isn’t much activity on 2m/70cm around my little town. Kinda wish I had went with a dx10/710 but I love 991a. I’ll end up with one of those two plus a 891 and eventually a 101mp before it’s over. I’ve got the bug now 😂
Nah, I muted the guy in the background yelling "Ahh, my leg!" after the ND so it seemed like no one got hurt. Always happy to hear your "terrible fist"
Happy New Year, CnC. I got my license this year and my first radio is the FT-710. I bought it on sale for 800 and some change, but I'm portable only and I lug that beast on my back several days a week and always battle having enough battery life. It's also a very cool damn radio, I'm learning about these 1.25m, 2m, 80m, etc. bands!
Happy new year, Paul! Congrats on the license! Now the journey begins. My FT-710 should be arriving tomorrow. We'll be FT-710 buddies. I'll be lugging it out to the field at some point too. Thanks for watching!
I find the 891 as a solid QRO POTA Rig, especially when paired with a 100Ah battery. Not heavy for walking to a bench. I sold my first one a long time ago. Just bought one again for QRO POTA for 100W CW & SSB. I use my KX2 for SOTA and POTA QRP. I would never drag my 891 to a summit. But POTA? Absolutely.
100 Ah battery is a big boi! I'd need a cart for all that. It is a very capable radio, absolutely agree. I'm hopeful that my future radio(s) are able to fill the hole that selling the 891 has left.

Glad that ND went downrange and nobody got hurt! I'm also glad that my terrible fist makes it easy to pick me out of a pileup 😁
