    I have got to say, this gave me the best tune I've ever had. I have tried for months following different instructions to tune my Goby. But I went out and tuned following these instructions and the difference was insane. I will be doing this for my Torrent and all future quads!

    Man, it doesn't matter how far I go back in your videos, everything is pertinent. You truly are a great teacher, thank you for sharing all of your studying and knowledge. Just getting into this hobby is extremely overwhelming, but you do a fantastic job explaining every detail without simplifying it to much.

    OMG WHERE IS PART TWWOOOOOOOOOO?!?! Seriously Josh! Thank you for this. Your explanation as you fly are incredibly helpful. Its great how you show a specific effect with several iterations of the same maneuver, describing what we are seeing AND HEARING as you do it. I don't have to rewind over and over to catch it. this is the kind of tutorial videos we need more of. Well done! I cant wait to see the next video.

    • @JoshuaBardwell

      Soft mount the FC? Check FPV and HD cam to see if the wobble is actually the quad or just the camera.

    Folks if your OSD doesn't have this feature, I highly recommend the 'PIDflight' Android app. It lets you plug your android phone into your quad's USB port to set PIDs and rates. Much better than taking a laptop outside!

  • @droneschoolgent2057
    @droneschoolgent2057 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    From the betaflight wiki: Also lower the I and D gains on pitch and roll in order to tune P with minimal interference from I and D. I of 20 and D of 5 are good starting points.

      I just got here and haven't even watched it yet but I think I will thumb it down just because I HATE it when youtubers turn off the comment section! Like he did for the last video. Now I haven't watched many of his videos but saw the last one about the GPL violation in my recommended videos list and had to watch it. And I AGREE with him that it looks like they did indeed violate the GPL. But I've only seen the one side of that discussion because he has blocked the comment section. If he doesn't want to read the comments or respond that is absolutely fine but don't block others from commenting! That's not professional in my book. Perhaps all the thumbs down in that video was because people didn't agree with his view or perhaps because he blocked the comment section... no way to know. Thumb down my comment if you have to but I am just stating my opinion and remember I do agree with his view just not the blocking of comments. I believe everyone has a right to voice their opinions as long as they keep it civil. Don't take that right away. Please do comment on my comment though! :-)

    I am too paranoid and I still stick to the way of "raw balancing" where you tie up your quad using some rock climbing rope (the light one up to 20 KG) - on one of the axis :) and proceed as you mention in your masterclass video. Also I have very thin USB cable so I can change PIDs even mid flight using laptop. One thing I like about it is that the climbing rope is flexing and making the quad oscilate so if I force it to do some stuff and I can see if it would get out of balance in flight later

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +kennuardo hartinger I have tried that method but I don't find it to produce correct PIDs. I just prefer to tune in flight.

  • @BaldmanFPV
    @BaldmanFPV 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Josh I think you should mention the electronics of this quad and the props just to size up what we're looking at here.

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +imtrill07 I disagree. The specific PID values aren't what's important here. The specific copter setup isn't important. What you see here will be similar for any 6" to 4" quad.

    Joshua, It would be interesting to see the lines of the blackbox on those first 2 runs. I feel like with 0 D the oscillation you see is from the I gain. With low P and 0 D the I has a larger effect than normal. Just a thought.

    Joshua you know what would really help?
    Not dropping everything to zero and then raising but the other way around,...
    I started back then whehn flybarless Helis were new and I was just getting the jist of how the gyro works when you tune it too high and how to go down from there.
    Now getting into Betaflight I think it would help to just see where to go from the stock settiings.
    Like you show with that oscillation but for everything else... see where it gets "faulty" and how to drop it from there 'till you can see that it's not "faulty"anymore.

  • @mikepeterson4051
    @mikepeterson4051 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've spent 3-4 days trying to figure out my problem, finally I found a video that kinda looked like what I was experiencing... 2nd comment down is from Mr Obi Drone Kenobi himself saying that persons P setting was too high...... LIGHTBULB!!!! 3 Joshua Bardwell videos later, I'm now 98% sure of what's wrong 👍😎
    My Problem: for background, lets go back to the last mistake I made.. I placed my FC in the wrong orientation, causing the death flip on takeoff. Being an idiot thinking I made a mistake in betaflight, I hit the reset! Went to test and huh look at that it won't arm... back in betaflight I feel like an idiot as I reset everything BUT the PIDs..... next test, being very careful with the throttle, not even half an inch off the ground she starts dancing haha now thinking back, I do recall glancing at them and thinking they looked high but didn't know any better so I didn't touch them.
    I did figure out a good test to make sure motors and props are correct! Also useful for noobs to practice making super tiny inputs on the control: Spool the motors up just enough so that slight forward/backward pitch gets the quad to sit on two arms.. now one at a time use pitch and roll, to make it stand/spin slowly on one arm!

    Quick Question..... I have learned so much from your video's it's crazy, I have watched 90%+ of them, built my first 220 from scratch couple weeks ago and now on my 3rd even though I've only had about 10mins stick time so far (FOV) and 3 to 5 hours on sim I just love building and setting them up . MASSIVE thank you! So the big question that I'd really appreciate YOUR answer too..... I really want to be able to fly 3D mode and have a 220 setup in 3D mode ready to go. In your opinion am I best to learn ACRO FPV first then start to learn 3D or do I jump straight in to 3D? I fear I'd pick up bad habits in ACRO that would make learning 3D harder in the future. Thanks again for such great in depth content, keep up the great work. John

    This is helpful, have you done a video on PID for GPS. I'm getting a lot of sway and slow correction. Raise the I gain? Been messing with it but haven't figured it out.

      @Taematoe 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I built a 230 racer and added GPS so if I freak out I can flip the switch so it stays put. I'm still learning to fly. The quad itself is fairly stable hovering until I flip GPS hold. Thanks for the videos, it will just take trial and error.

  • @DashzRight
    @DashzRight 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Btw how do you have your setpoint transition and weight? Will you talk about it in this video series? Because I was unable to get rid of isolations at the end of flips no matter how good I tune my pids, but changing these 2 sliders made a big difference in the behaviour of the quad...

    Joshua what about filters? Keep it default or turn all off during PID tuning?
    On default PIDs my motors are very hot...

      Wojciech Myśliński tune drone, if you don’t have a regulator in your drone I would put one in it helps a lot.

    When you say big bounce. I think its safe to say your quad is overshooting!

    Hello
    I've been having an annoying problem with my quad. It feels like I've got a good tune, but when I perform flips with high angle speeds I lose control of the quad. It rapidly starts an uncommanded spin even faster and cannot be stopped for a few seconds.
    Is this a telltale problem? My hypothesis is the D rate could be too high. Or I have vibration problems on the board. Any ideas?

    Got a question for you what would cause my quad copter to have a quick throttle hang. While flying when I punch the throttle and drop it quickly it will continue to climb at full throttle for about 2 seconds before finally throttling down. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated
