I sprinkle turmeric in almost everything that I cook. And since I use freshly ground Blk pepper in almost any food, turmeric becomes more effective. I love using spices. I have planted as many herbs and spices in my organic garden so I can always have them available. It truly is a blessing to have this capability and helping to conserve the environment in the process!

An herb is the green, leafy part of the plant. Examples are basil, rosemary, sage, thyme, parsley, and oregano. A spice can come from the root, stem, seed, fruit, flower or bark of the tree or plant.

I have much loved multi bean dish. I rinse all the canned beans 2 or 3 times in the can except the blacl beans which i just use as is. It is black beans, garbonzo beans, kidney beans, green beans, mild small can of green chilies. 1/2 bar of cream cheese ( cut or tear into about six pieces), Signature Mexican shredded cheeses (like 3 kinds of cheese), spices you like and are healthy and i put about 2 or 3 Tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive Oil in pan before adding the other ingredients. I add ground black pepper, 2 small pinches of Tumeric, paprika,
Lawry's garlic salt with parsley (sea salt and coarse), chives from Dollar Tree, optional fresh or dried leeks, onion powder, 1 pinch Cayenne pepper, dried basil flakes, dried parsley, poppy seeds, black or white sesame seeds, optional parmesan cheese. I just love this. You can really use the spices you like. Certainly you do not need half of the ones i listed. I just try to add as much good nutrition that i can sneak in to my dishes. I also add to 2 tablespoons Hemp hearts at the end. I sometimes add 1 to 2 tablespoons freshly ground chia seeds and flax seeds in place of the hemp hearts (grind seeds with coffee grinder).

Dr B, I've heard that when you have turmeric you should always have black pepper as well. The curcumin in the black pepper is such a powerful antioxidant that apparently the immune system freaks out and then the liver almost immediately removes the turmeric by making it water soluble, etc...However the black pepper allows the curcumin to stay in the body much longer, because the active ingridient in the black pepper, piperine, temporarily disables the liver's ability to deal with the curcumin. So, apparently, it doesn't make the curcumin any more powerful per se, but it gives it a lot more time to act, thus making it almost a "thousand" times more effective. There's black pepper in curry powder, maybe the folks in India are on to something! - Great video, keep them coming!

@ Dave Metron -The folks in India, that is Bharat, hv been on to healthy living much much b4 we were invaded by all the foreign invaders including the Dutch, French, Greeks, Roman's, Britishers, etc al, who enjoyed our hospitality initially and then attacked us to plunder our wealth not just material but also our scriptures and other natural and spiritual knowledge about healthy living. But you hv bn fed with the jargon that India was uncivilised and poverty struck when Britishers laid their eyes on us. However, true Bharatiyas are magnanimous people and they did not bother about Patenting their knowledge and commodities as for them every human being in this universe is family and Bharatiya culture believes in sharing knowledge freely and for betterment of mankind. As you mentioned in this very progm that we hv bn using all these condiments on daily basis and hence our immunity system is way better than yours. Keep up the good work. But also remember to give appreciation to whom it rightly belongs. Namaste.

Last year I heard Prof Tim Spector say we should try to eat 30 different plants a week which sounded crazy to me then, but once I started looking in my fridge, freezer & cupboards I realised I was probably eating 20+. I started adding herbs & spices & now I sometimes eat 30 in a day! I try to eat in a 10 hour window which was much easier than I thought & I don’t get nearly as much indigestion now. Also I have massively reduced ultra processed food & have lost 20lbs & managed to keep it off for over a year. I take turmeric supplements as I was having knee pain & feel it’s helped a lot. As a former Asian Studies scholar and a 50 year user of Indian spices in my own cooking, I would add that turmeric should be cooked in recipes for full benefit, not just added to coffee or taken in raw form. The real benefits come with cooking with these spices. Spices make food more palatable, more digestible and in general bring you better health. Spices are used in medicine in India and China in order to improve & sustain good health. Much can be learned from both Chinese and Ayurvedic (Indian) Medicine. For both traditions see Food as Medicine.

There's a difference between culinary usage and health usage. From a culinary perspective many spices are significantly better when cooked with food but it doesn't mean that it's necessarily healthier or that you shouldn't add them to your coffee or eat them raw if that's the only option you have. Idk if there's any data on it, I would guess probably not. Also I don't think there's any data about how many spices are too much but it's probably hard to eat too much spices, if you're already cooking with spices adding them to your coffee too probably won't make you eat too much of them. Edit: they actually talk about it in the video

I decided after hearing many of these videos about healthy spices and olive oils and garlic and honey - I simply took 5 days worth of each spice with 1.5 cups of olive oil and enough raw honey to make it palatable - including protein powder and chia seeds and 4 cloves of garlic and a couple of lemons worth of juice and put them in the same glass jar with as many spices as I have on hand. Then i know if I just add a tablespoon or two of this mixture to anything I eat, it immediately has everything in the perfect proportion. and turns it into a superfood. Henceforth, each time I watch a video like this one, I simply add this one ingredient to the mixture. Example from this video is to add black pepper to make turmeric absorption better.

I love my new spiced coffee per Dr. Bulsiewicz. Tried it and LOVED IT! After reading Dr. William Li's book I added Cocoa to the spice mix and it is even yummier!!!!! According to Dr. Li the coffee and cocoa helps your body make stem cells, turmeric is anti-inflammatory and ginger and cinnamon helps blood sugar control, and I also use gelled chia/flax meal mix. I drink this every morning, even during a fast, it like a powerful breakfast with ~20 calories, 14 grams of fiber, and some yummy spices! I mixed 1 tsp of cocoa, 1tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp turmeric, 1/2 tsp ginger in a salt shaker. I do 5 shakes into my coffee chia/flax meal mix.

It gels up and after an hour or so it is a gelatinous mixture. I mix it in my coffee, hot tea, soup, smoothies. It acts like a pre-biotic mixture, gives me tons of fiber, after 6 weeks of using this mixture for the first time in my life I had cholesterol that was not through the roof. Hope this helps, it really helped me. I've been drinking this for 6 years now.

I just noticed, while watching, that my all time favourite tea, Pukka original Chai, has ginger, cinnamon and cardamom in it. I also mix crushed cardamom into my gunpowder green tea, and this is ALL because of taste, I knew it was delicious but never knew how good it was except maybe ginger, and cardamom seems to help my digestion too. I need to throw in some turmeric and black pepper which I have, premixed because its good for my visiting, feral pigeons occasionally. (Good for pigeon ailments and helps them to digest.) My husband is a chef and from Algeria and uses a Lot of legumes. My particular favourite is a multi bean and veg tagine (without lamb) which really plays on the flavours and uses dried fruit and its possibly the best veggie dish I know, you talk about 30 veg a week, this has at least half. I also got into a habit of putting raw hazelnuts, sunflower and pumpkin seeds along with flax ground up on top of anything and everything.

Help! Ever since reading Consumer Reports Dec.21 on concerning to VERY concerning and undisclosed amounts of heavy metals in our spices, I have not eaten oregano or thyme, and have changed brands of others if CR was able to find some that were inoffensive in their laudatory, but incomplete spot testing. Could you let us know if you have information to help us find safe spices? According to CR, we cannot rely on a given brand across different spices, nor upon the spice being organic. I dread thinking we shall have to test our planting soil, then grow our own! I doubt we shall live long enough for the government to regulate and improve this problem.

And .... I found ways to eat raw garlic that's so good ... put the peeled cloves into the center of a Medjool date or a ripe fig ... almost (??) heavenly delicious 💚

Black or fermented garlic tastes like prunes to me. Whereas for better absorption of curcumin, aside from black pepper someone also recommended adding fenugreek seeds. I haven't heard this often, but just to be sure I add both black pepper and fenugreek to my turmeric.

I agree. Dried prunes and black garlic taste similiar. I love the flavour but the garlic is pretty pricey.

Please add any fat. Curcumin is fat soluble.

Ginger and cinnamon with coffee is my fav - so I'll add turmeric for sure, but wonder do you add black pepper too?

I've been practicing Ayurvedic medicine for ten years now. I add ginger, turmeric, and cinnamon to my coffee every morning, and I call it the Holy Trinity as well, so I LOL'd when you said it. Along with black cumin seeds, cream of tarter, oregano, cloves, and cayenne pepper. People think I'm crazy for doing this. But I take an empty spice jar and add everything together and sprinkle it in my coffee every day with zero sugar creamer while intermittent fasting. Also, a pickle is a great natural cure for acid reflux. From Houston, TX BTW. This is the first video I've seen of yours.

Just asking why Dr. B does not add black pepper to turmeric in his morning cup of coffee?
