    Hi Andy. That Horsa is looking good. The colour thing has always been an issue that some people argue over , the biggest one being Russian 4BO. Never the lees each country uses their own system. So Japanese green is actually an American green as denoted by the FS system. We in Britain have our own system even though it is very close to the FS system. So now we,ll move on. Tailsitter. A little tip , if there is more of the aircraft behind the main wheels then it will sit on its arse. That applies to any aircraft. Bearing in mind that there is a bulkhead at the back of the cockpit you could have stuffed a load of ballast just behind it. The paint job itself is good , you will always get a bit of paint bleed but the best way to solve that is when you put the tape on use your scalpel handle and just rub it along the tape edge line to make sure that it is down. Your camo pattern is freehand which is fine but remember that there was a standard pattern of A and B , alternating colours. I know that you don,t do super accurate but little things will in time 'nag' at you. Its like an itch that you want to scratch. The black went down very well. The glooss varnish only needs to go where the decals will be , that way you will save time and varnish. Then matt coat the whole model. You,ve done a good job on this one so well done. I can,t wait to see what the big build is going to be. Good luck bud.

      LOL Brian only just got up and info on paint too much currently for brain to digest. Luckily this comes with a little clear stand for relieving tail sitter issues , though TBh completely forgot about weighting it so lucky i guess. Currently i am just using large decorators masking tape for camo patterns, seems to work OK, time again is an issue as sitting down and figuring the exact camo scheme is a bit MEH. Varnishing; i was under the impression Gloss was also good for "flattening the paint" so applying it to only areas where decals are going seems a bit odd as surely that could then end up with a slightly uneven surface appearance?

      @@TheNoviceModeller Hi Andy. Sorry to overload your brain so soon ,my fault. The varnish thing. That only applies if you put on to much. You can do it if you wish but if your not careful the varnish can go white. You only put it on to flatten the surface where the decals need to go , it stops silvering. But if your happy with your results then crack on bud. Your the boss. Good luck bud.

    Hello Andy! I was not aware tha the Horsa was painted with a standard camouflage scheme. I thought they too were green on top like the Dakotas. Looks very good, a little clean up here & there and Bob's Your Uncle. Be seeing you

      Thanks Jim, pretty happy with it so far, TBH was a bit worried before the paint went on but look OK. I think the difference is that you guys from "over the pond" painted everything in olive drab, where we Brits loved our camo LOL. hoping to maybe get the decals on tomorrow. work delaying play unfortunately.

    Hey Andy, I think you may have to change that Novice out of your title, you are really hitting the ball out of the park on masking and painting decals etc. The Horsa looks great I had know idea it was so big compared to the Dakota Of course a glider needs a lot of surface area. I'm with ya on 1/72 scale figures, they are tough to detail, 1/48 is not too bad. I do like the big rattle cans of Vallejo I've only found one color on Amazon - yellow which will probably last for our 8 year building schedule Getting my building area back together is moving slower than I wanted. I'm trying to put it back together in a more organized format. Hope work is going well. , Have you got a display case to display your kits ? , Cheers Bob

      Thanks Bob though still haven't tried weathering, still to complete a 1/35, still haven't done any figures, no diorama, still cant make head nor tail of the brushes, so still definitely a novice PMSL, but i reckon i am heading in the right direction. The only Valejo cans i have are the varnishes, haven't tried any of their paints yet. Good luck with putting your model room back together, i thinx mine need to be moved and rebuilt, maybe in the new year LOL.

      Yeah, it’s pretty cool, I have a feeling the next thousand will come even quicker. And you’re definitely getting better. I remember some of the first spitfires and I like that Japanese theme you did. And it actually got me interested in getting some Japanese aircraft.Thanks, curious about your big plan, but don’t drive yourself crazy you’re doing a good job already😺

    • @TheNoviceModeller
      @TheNoviceModeller  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      BIG PLAN is basically a much scaled down re-hash of the Japanese week and is the reason why i have been on a buying frenzy the past 4-5 months, pretty happy with my kit selection now. so ready to proceed on my 12 days off at the end of the month.

    • @ragganyc
      @ragganyc 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TheNoviceModeller that sounds cool, and I’ll be watching, I’ll probably get some more Japanese aircraft after your videos like before. But for me it’s going to be 1/32 scale or 1/48. My only problem is where can I put them safe when they’re finished. Things get broken here all the time😹

    • @TheNoviceModeller
      @TheNoviceModeller  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi @ragganyc well the first part of "BIG PLAN" will be Finnish air force, i have no idea what will be next, but, i have loads of other minor WW2 Air forces to go at, then add in the likes of German Jets, 1/35 Afrika korps vs 8th Army, trucks of all nations, motorbikes, WW2 era biplanes, Russian front, staff cars, Italian 1/35, Japanese 1/35, Flying boats, trainer aircraft, BF 109's, Spitfires, many kits are interchangeable between themes ......similar like i say, to "Land of the Rising Sun week" though i will only be trying to build one kit at a time from a selection of 4-6 and i will let you guys decide which one is built next, the theme will change every week or so and repeated at some future point, and every now or again i will just build something that i want to do. LOL storage of built kits, i have no plan for this currently, though i have heard that according to scientists "space is infinite" PMSL.

      i think its an old one not exactly P.C,...... not yet, someone on ebay had a stock of them going for a reasonable price, hmmmm well not as expensive as others, unfortunately they all gone, not very high on my agenda, though i have the BOG and decals so whenever i feel like getting it i have the important components.

    Call me picky if you like, but I don't think that dried paint should be damaged just by resting on a box. I'm going to try again painting my Willys Jeep model, but if I still have a problem I may have to give up on acrylics, even though I've spent a small fortune buying them. Weird thing is that the Mr Surfacer primer has adhered to the plastic o.k. but the Vallejo Olive Drab just scratched off the primer with the merest provocation. Best wishes.

    • @BrianSanders-tn7pi
      @BrianSanders-tn7pi 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi. If your having trouble with your acrylics then use a different primer. I use car based primers from Halfords. They heve a variety of colours and they all work well with acrylics. So put on your Mr Surfacer then put on the Halfords primer and then apply your chosen colour. I use Valejo acrylics and they work extremely well. If I am doing a solid colour then I use the primer first then my chosen colour and then a matt varnish. Now I can use my acrylics to hand paint the details and to weather it also. Hand painting acrylics can be watered down and mixed together to create washes , throw in some pigments and there is your muddy texture too. So try a different primer first and go from there. I hope that this helps. Cheers.

      @TheNoviceModeller  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello again @georgeclements2742 I have only used the Army Painter series of primers and TBH have no complaints, i think i have a couple of random Valejo paints that turned up with a kit but have not used any yet. Have pretty much only used Tamiya and a couple of Humbrol's so far. I think some of my issues are due to rough handling, i am not clumsy but i aint delicate either LOL. I know that you can use a variety of cheaper primers but kinda happy with what i have at the mo, i spose it's always a bit of a "big thing" to change your methods or suppliers and like you have suggested with your acrylic paints the investment in these supplies is huge.

      @@BrianSanders-tn7pi Thanks Brian: I'll certainly try a different primer and see how things go. The most annoying thing is that I've only just started using an airbrush and I was really chuffed with the way the paint laid down until I discovered how fragile it was. Regards.
