My interpretation is that she was going to take it easy and try to just hit that head note, but the head note cracked. Knowing Mariah, that is not how she backs into F#5s. She was taking it easy here (even though to everyone else, MC's "easy" is their impossible North Star lol)
Unbelievable quality! Thanks for sharing. Pls upload other live performances of Mariah from the 90s if you have them! Some of her best prime vocals have the worst video + audio quality
To be honest, I still think it's one of her best. The way she saved after that vocal crack was genius and her belts were on fire. So bright and ping-y.
@ilovetati91 She saved it with the descending run. Sounded intentional due to her on the spot improv. Very great artistic navigation and still an exemplary performance
This was nowhere near as great as her If It's Over Grammys performance. In the Grammys, every phrased F#5 was supported and resonant! But here she showed that even the best vocalists are human and they won't be perfect every time. Even the notes that she did attempt like the "It JUST isn't right" E5 was tense and short, but she still had some good musicality moments and she still did her best. She's still one of the greatest vocalists of all time
@@MrYourapotatoe Yes, she still killed it and yeah I think she was sick here. SNL was great too, but the F#5's were even more clear and resonant at Grammys. The SNL F#5's got a little strained towards the end when she was singing "You GOT to SAY the WORD TONIGHT!"
@@ilovetati91 actually her upper belts were thin and tight here. it was not complete strain but in SNL her voice sounded healthier and more rested. not to mention Grammys 1992 performance, THAT was her best one😌 Oprah has slightly stronger lows than Grammy awards but overall tone, pitch and technique (and whistle!) was far better at the Grammy awards😇
@ mariahcareydaydreamera2526 I think her execution here was better. Yeah she cracked, but she cracked with a much better placement and because of the word “to” which the hard T consonant caused the folds to blow open and flip to M2. Most of her F#5 attempts here were better than SNL. SNL had some pitch and valsalva issues more-so than this one. Both were stellar, but I prefer the timbral clarity and approach here.
Oprah the queen of never know the lyric of mariah songs 2:05
Lmaooo
1:38 alternative vocals amazing 🇧🇷
I did shout “biiiitch” and then rewind and replay! 😂❤
🎉🎉🎉 🔥
Thank you so much for putting these 2 performances on TH-cam, fans have been looking for a decent quality for ages 😂
Anas Atassi thank you! I have noticed a few other TH-cam pages copied within days so I’ll take it as a compliment 😂
The first time I see the old Mariah crack her voice. As a human!
Even her crack at 3:08 is sublime!!!!
She said toOOoOoooooO
I think its not a crack. She intentionally did that.
@@nadnad4413 she didnt. It was a crack, she just saved it
@@nadnad4413 no she did not
@@nadnad4413 it's not intentional
,,,,,fantastic mariah
Even her cracks sound good!
Ugh I can't with her F#5's during '92 they are sharp and resonant af

Always loved this song! So underrated!!
Yaasss, thank you for posting!!! The quality is so good ❤️
3:08 she was about to attempt the multiple F#5's but cracked oops

This literally would be one of her best performances if she hadn't cracked.

her songs are only meant for her. Very very difficult and no one can reach to her performance level.

Oprah in the audience 😩😆
I love all the performances of this song but I wonder why she always omits the second verse. It's the most ignored verse in her career lol
A year late, but she sang the second verse in the SNL performance

Much better than the SNL performance.
I don’t agree. At SNL her belts were much stronger and more supported. Here she was tense cause she was sick. She herself said that she had cold.

I never understood why oprah became so famous. Absolutely rubbish.
She lost it at 3.08, I have to clean my ears with the grammys performance.
remains a legendary performance. She was sick ...
1:39 This run alone slays the whole performance
