- In this video we will be talking about if frostscales are possible and if they are how are they caused? The art of a Icewing, Peril, and Sky belongs to Joy Ang. Wings of Fire belongs to Tui T. Sutherland.
They're not canon, but they can exist as a fan creation
Yeah I have a fan-tribe (that goes extinct in the lore of my au) called Freezewings and they have those sometimes
I got a fan tribe too I call them ✨Cloudwings✨ but they are weak'n'strong and probably will win a war and then start failing around for a month :D
Very possible, I see every tribe having any abilities to have that one genetic anomaly. Because look at what we have now

@@hiyohiyanimus is not ALL dragons, for now we only know 2 tribes which are carrying the animus gene (nightwings and sea wings) but technically animus could make another dragon animus so you aren’t entirely wrong
I feel like instead of working like firescales they’d basically get ice armour due to freezing the environment around them, although it might not be particularly healthy
I feel like frostscale dragons would die from precipitation freezing on their scales. Unlike firescales, they would slowly be encased in a layer of frozen snow, rain, dew, fog, or any other mist because of how cold they are. I imagine they could exist, but they just die as newborns.
Is it possible they can shake it and/or scratch it off? Like how many animals do when they get wet or covered with snow? They could probably also hide from precipitation weather as well, which would probably be a nuisance more than anything.
But then wouldn’t peril have died? Bc we aren’t show at all that sky wings can be fire proof, so how is peril covered in fire but not burning alive? Or from the inside, at that.
Maybe the skywings who have fire scales only are fire proof and the ice wings with ice scales are ice-… proof or smth, idk

would be interesting lore bit ngl, because despite there being quite alot of stuff around icewings already and how their kingdom works it still has quite alot to show especially outer villages
If frostscales never become cannon then Tui has missed a big opportunity because itd be super cool

I go agree with the possibility of the possible existence of frostscales, but how the IceWings would treat them would be different.
The reason you gave in the video is a good idea. With the loss of animus magic, the IceWings will grasp at any remaining power advantage they have left.
But, I have a feeling the IceWings will treat them the same way as a flamescales, a danger. Yes, IceWings do have ice resistance, but not to the extent of a superchilled frostscales.
They will treat them differently, not just because of their danger but also because of their culture. Think about it, IceWing culture is very rigid, and all individuals should stick to the status quo. Any dragonet with froscsales would be treated as a liability to family blood, unless they are used as a weapon in times of war.
So. My theory is that they did exist, but since there had been no significant war at the time. They have been eradicated and the mention of their existence has become a taboo. So thats why there are no scrolls or even dragons who speak about their existence.
Sorry for this essay of a comment, but I'm just throwing my thoughts out there.
I saw this and instantly remembered my first wings of fire fanfiction when the main character Puffin got teased by being called “Frostscales” because he had more frostbreath then usual

I know it's canon Queen Diamond created the Gift of Healing, but wouldn't it be cool if they were created by a Frostscales IceWing who felt so bad about her powers that she made a way to heal all the wounds she caused?
My guess that if they do exist then they are incredibly rare/possibly more rare than firescales
I have a couple of hcs/theories on this, one, frostscales aren't natural, but can be forced by putting half of a twin egg in a significantly warmer environment than the other half, or frostscales are natural, but an animus gift from long ago was made to cure them. This combines with a different hc i have about IceWings, where their spikes, while not inherently being made of ice, have their spines and claws enlargened by ice. They aren't made of the stuff, but rather imbued, in a sense. Frostscales, when either made or not cured, freeze most things around them, and have especially large and sharp talons and spikes, due to the water vapor around them being froze onto them. Just thought id share how i think they might work.
hi wings of ice! as a fellow of nerd I have a video suggestion. you would do a video on what would happen if the night wings and rain wings created a superpower 11th tribe and what kinds of dragons could come from that. for example, a dark stalker with camo scales and venom?? also maybe a sulking-leafwing tribe, but this is more unlikely. or potentially a skewing sanding tribe??? prob not that 1, but I think a nighting rainwing wud be cool and id love to see a vid on that! btw LOVE the content keep up the great work!

I believe the icewing could be killing them off like the sky wings where and that’s why we don’t see any! :)
I’d like to imagine that frostscales and firescales cancel each other out which means if a frostscales encountered a firescales then they would be able to touch each other just fine.
I have an oc who is a ancient fire scales who could never use his animus magic as anything he tried to enchant would burn which encluded his thoughts. I ended up giving him a icescales gf for funnsies
I'd say for frostscales to happen, it'd have to be a triplet egg or have a LOT of excess frostbreath, since skywings have the most fire - more fire than icewings have frostbreath.

Here's my theory:
Icewings have frost resistant scales I their throat and their mouth so they aren't affected by the frost breath they breathe. I also think it's the same for skywings, mudwings, sandwings, and nightwings, but with fire resistance.
Ice wings already have “frost scales”, just not to that level. What I mean is they’re very cold to the touch, much like snow
I made a frost scale oc when I didn't have the social media to tell me it wasn't unique, but I made it so it was very problematic for him since he couldn't touch water without it freezing and any normal temperature swiftly overheated him so he was pretty much trapped in the ice kingdom for most his life. I feel like if there is ice scales, they probably can't leave the kingdom and may have to be put down like flame scales if they can't do standard things like properly eat food without it freezing, drink water, or be able to survive above-freezing temperatures without it being an issue
I have one in my au, i believe that frostscales can touch firescales as it balances out. so I have one frostscales and one firescales as partners.
Well in forge your dragon world it’s about making your own dragon world so you can make like snow dragons with sometimes frost scales
If there are frost scales,there are also frost proof scales,wait those are fire scales.
Here is the problem with frostscales dragons.
They will liquify or even solidify the very air around them, and that is sort of a difficulty. Should their temperature be much higher than this - well, they would not be very deadly in battle. At least for dragon standards.
You cannot really have a dragon raining liquid nitrogen whereever he goes or flies. Much more messy than a firescales dragon. Ok, perhaps you can. But any fanfic that does not take this aspect into account would suck.
So you are left with a seawing like creature who creates the liquid nitrogen ocean around it and only is able to communicate with other frostscales dragons.
Also, there is the big issue with the absolute temperature. If a firescales dragon and a frostscales dragon collide midair, chances are that the firescales dragon will melt and burn the frostscales dragon flat out since at thermal equilibrium the temperature of the pair will burn the icewing to death, frostscales or not. Unless the frostscales dragon is very much more massive than the firescales dragon.

if i may make one small nitpicky disagreement thingy: i think what the dragons _thought_ happened with peril and sky was that she stole all his fire, but i don't think it could actually work like that. me and my partner have a theory based on us having spent Way too long trying to figure out genetic reasons behind stuff like this so we're pretty sure that instead it was like, both kestrel and soar had a too little fire gene and a too much fire gene, and in them it worked fine and like, canceled out, but peril got both too much fire genes and sky got both too little fire
(if you're curious, we also have theories about animus actually being a bunch of different genes with like one "activator" gene or something, and how the reason skywings keep getting firescales dragonets is they only take the mom out of the breeding population so the dad's copy still gets passed around)

i think that frost scales would be able to give a dragon frost bite and if a dragon touches a frost scales for to long they will loose their limbs or something

icewing twins do happen (the pair of twins that enchanted the icewing palace, for example) so it is possible. i dont remember if it says all skywing twins have one firescales dragon or if it's only some though

Would Frostscales just be ice manipulation? Plasma works differently than solid or liquid based on molecule movement... having such cold scales to the point it solidifies matter around it or with a layer of ice may be slightly unhealthy for the dragon, so they must remain cold, like food in a fridge... it will need heat I guess for its blood to keep flowing rather than solidifying? Dragons are cold-blooded, so they are unable to heat up their blood vessels through shivering. This might just be nonsense that I'm typing but I'm trying.

@@kingmewto7148 ah, so rather than something like ocean Ice, it would be compared to an icy moon of a planet: a surface of ice with liquid water underneath--its scales would be of painful temperature while its internal core being warm enough to keep its insides from solidifying...

Why is the WOF fandom going crazy over OP magic bc every oc I see when I look up "Wings of fire oc" is either a hybrid, animus, leafspeak, mind reader, prophet, firesclaes, frostscales, flamesilk, and even royals. At least I have an oc that's normal. Thanks for ruining the fandom, hybrid oc's.
