Euro NCAP Crash & Safety Tests of VW Multivan 2022

  • Euro NCAP performs a series of crash and safety tests on car models:
    - a frontal impact test, 50% of the width of the car is striking an oncoming deformable barrier, also travelling at 50 km/h
    - a frontal impact test, the car impacts a rigid full width barrier
    - a side impact test, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door
    - a pole test, the tested car is propelled sideways
    - a far-side impact test, the robustness of the centre airbag is evaluated by two dummies in the front.
    A series of pedestrian tests are conducted with different impactors, adult and child head form, lower and upper leg form and whiplash tests are performed on a sled as well as AEB pedestrian and cyclist tests.
    Active safety is tested based on the car’s equipment: autonomous emergency braking car-to-car scenarios, occupant status monitoring (including seatbelt reminders), lane support and speed assistance technologies.

      Don't overdo it, crash into a tree or roll over at 100 km/h and you're done!
      But for more classic crashes it's a very good vehicle 👍

      Multivan is actually on the same platform as Golf et al in this generation, unlike previous gens that were actually van-based

    what's the rationale in testing side impact with driver only, then with driver and passenger?

      @@christopherredhead4182 yeah. they could have at least tested the side impact from the passenger side. In IIHS' small overlap test, they initially tested only the driver side, but then when they tested the passenger side, they found out that in certain models the manufacturers only reinforced one side of the car to pass the test.

      I think the driver only is the standard test. But when there's a center airbag installed, they also test with the passenger.

    The head-on collision with a static barrier at 67 km/h was more authoritative than the head-on collision with a moving platform at 50 km/h. The mobile platform is much lighter than the T7, which is a completely unreliable test. When IIHS raises the bar, like small over lapp test, NCAP lowers it in terms of a head-on impact, lower speed a collision with a platform weighing less than the car being collided!

    One of the best side pole test.
    But what about increase speed of side pole to 60 kph?
    32 kph is unrealistic low. Most side crashes with tree or pole happens on high speed.
    And front crash with car on 50 kph? It's ridiculous!
    It should be at least 64 kph for each car.

      They are praising EV’s that way more heavier than regular vehicles with mobile barrier that weigths 1400kg

      True true but remember the pole test represents what happens when the vehicle is out of control like spinning on a wet road and it impacts a tree for example. In that event the speed of vehicle is greatly reduced overall

      Don't forget the difference between the strong solid fixed bar and a tree, the tree is weaker than the bar because it's a wood and the tree is not strongly fixed in ground like the bar the tree will come off from the ground in accidents.

      @@hgfvdvd007 @hgfvdvd007 You underestimate the power of Mother Nature. I've been previously involved in a side impact with tree and the tree remained rooted to the spot. I recommend watching the fifth gear episode on crashing into a tree at 55mph and also what happens when you crash into a lamp post. Both clips on youtube

    50kmh is too much of a test should be 30 kmh. More realistic scenario for european roads.
