- Loneliness causes social stress, depression and inflammation in the body. To combat this, doctors in the small British town of Frome are successfully prescribing activities with other people and also with animals. The idea has found many fans.

Couldn't agree more👏👏👏✌️🙏🤜🤛
Yes.
Yes it is gets you out of your head ❤
Amen! ❤
We desperately needs more of this type of thing here now. Lovely to see.
Social interaction is the basis of society
Much respect for the good work helping each other
Thank you for covering positive stories like these in the UK. Our media rarely reports on such matters.
Humanity is returning back to basics. Handwork and social relations.
And dogs! Or animals, at least.
I'm a Filipino, Thank you because life today is stressful and lonely 😢
filipino family's have close relationships with each other, and pull together when needed. 😊 unlike family's in the west. They are left to their own devices, often know support
Balance the four concepts of life.
Understanding it.
Most pilipino knows about four concepts of life.
westerners they only focus of one.
I’m white it’s stressful and lonely for me too
@imwatchingonyoutube5024 the world is different now
@ the world still the same shape and size. Only humans make it differently by the understanding and behaviour.
This is actually lovely and the recognition of something really important, that so many of us struggle with. Proud to see the UK despite all our problems and stiff upper lip leading the way with this.
I would love to work for a charity like this.
Can't you try to do It?
@@conexaolondresbrasil Love to, but I live in Germany and am not yet fluent in German. :(
You Brits are great at charity. We Germans can learn so much from you ❤
Well Germany has officially been in recession the last 2 years and your government forecasts 0.3% growth in 2025 -- good luck with that when Trump puts tariffs on German Autos, as well as an across the board 20% tariff on the EU.
So can Americans after Trump
Charity is the failure of the state, the UK state avoids scrutiny at all costs and leaves it to charity to pick up the pieces. I know of victims of abuse who are on antipsychotic medications who have not had a review since 2017, in the same area a middle aged man killed his parents, that is the real austerity UK, charity won’t fix that family.
Also there are often some very well paid people running the charity, while volunteers give their time, so in fact charity is a good business for a few.
@@51StPiyou sound bitter. Maybe you should get out and volunteer.
@@51StPi Expecting everything to be done by the state has never worked. It just breeds apathy. People getting together and helping each other in whatever form that takes forms much of the fabric of our society. That's not to excuse the state from fulfilling what should be its responsibilities.
This footage is beautiful. Wishing everyone much happiness ✌🏼💛
I lived for 5 years in UK and see the loleliness of the people and society, in the post brexit and Covid. But, at the time I was surprised how local support groups and community centres bonded people and overpassed loneliness.
I like this kind of content from DW. 😊
TV and then The Internet have destroyed communities which in part have created this problem. Feeling like you belong, feeling like you are part of your culture, feeling like there are people nearby who care about you, is vital in keeping a healthy outlook. This stuff sells itself to people of my age, I hope there are similar initiatives for younger people, especially younger guys.
Why not younger girls it’s literally affected girls mental health as well not just boys all the time it affects both not just one
@ Anxiety and depression actually affects more girls than boys, but my understanding is that boys are less likely to seek help, either through the health service, family or other support. You rarely hear of girls going postal with guns or knives . . . . Plus, I am a man myself as it happens, so I tend to advocate for other men, as I understand them better.
It's true. A lot of men don't cope by themselves. I see it every day.
@@MrMusicbyMartinvery true, I used to volunteer for a group that connected young professionals with older people. It was magical that community....but many of the volunteers were young women and we desperately needed more men, especially as alot of older men would only attend the men's pub club.
@ It sounds great what you were doing. I think there’s a problem when ‘culture’ brings up images of pubs or football. “Culture’ has been so commodified, it now stands for ‘driving to the out-of-town shopping complex. It’s diffult to connect people with each other when the culture actually isolates and disconnects people.
Is a depression a new trend? Maybe because we don't interact anymore, spending time together, going to movies, we even don't have good movies anymore, maybe I 'm wrong, but all I see people alone with their phones, kids in my neighborhood don't even know each other.
We had Mufasa and Wicked, those were great movies to see with friends. But when no one wants to go with me I say meh and watch inside. It starts to put family over friends after a while. Now I am looking into finding someone who wants to join me to the movies or for a swim because for some reason there are no friendship apps.
This is fantastic ❤👏🏾
Such an innovative approach! Mental health is just as important as physical health. It's great to see doctors recognizing the power of community. We need more solutions like this worldwide!
People need a feeling of community ♥️
Good for you Danny, great you're feeling better. I have anxiety as well on medication too. It can be hard. However we have too stay strong. Head up mate. All the best. 🙂☀️💪
I am certainly convinced that mingling is an absolutely great idea not only for the communication stimulation but also for easier sharing your real feelings and emotions! ❤❤❤🎉
Heart-warming!
Great absolutely brilliant to combat social isolation and loneliness ❤
This really touched me. If only mainstream news was this positive.
This is very nice. I’m an American living in India. It can get lonely here
How can i get lonely. That place is over crowded 😂😂.. btw since you are from ministry you must be involved in teaching gospels and converting them... Does not seems you would be lonely and bored?
Amerians are lonely living in America when they wake up in their own neighbourhoods and everyone is from india
Aside from mingling, rescue an animal, guaranteed most effective way to fight depression. Animals dont lie and just wants to be loved and love back. They are FUNNY too
I was adopted by a kitten I found in my mum's garage last year. My mother died four months later. I know that little kitten was sent to be a friend in a hard time. She got me out of bed every morning in the initial months after Mum's passing as I had to feed her, clean her litter, and let her out every day. She perhaps saved me from a deep depression. And I didn't even particularly like cats before that. What a funny old world.
Totally agree.
Brilliant initiatives!
Isn’t this lovely! THIS is what humanity, community and decency is all about! And you could learn a skill, and end up doing something you love!
Oh lovely to see! 👋🇸🇪❤️ "No man is an island" -John Donne
Well smart phone and social medias have separated so much people to the basic needs for in person social activities.
getting out the house deffo helps..
Stop drinking, smoking and start eating healthy ,exercise and the depression will definitely decline
Sometimes the simplest things are far better for you than all the medications in the world.
Sadly, we are a social species.
January and February are ghetto months. Forcing myself to go out to a real shop only makes me more depressed, and is bad for my health. I also feel anxious in public because it is so gloomy out there because of inflation.
Am happy all this people. Not everything is about swallowing medicine. Outdoors and nature solves the problem. Go out more and its relaxing and therapeutic seeing different faces and not locked indoors everyday. Even if you don't have money get Outdoors 😊
what a wonderful place!❤
BEAUTIFUL!!!
Depression is really hurting our sanity.
Volunteered for a similar charity in London for years. They ran out of money so they no longer exist, its depressing its like a hole in the heart.
Dogs are brilliant, and the interaction between people and dogs is healing. But dogs not a tool for human's health, they also need support. So people should educate themselves about dogs needs, and be responsible partners for them.
Faith and community.
Godbless you all 🙏
Amazing work UK! Loneliness is hard, and sometimes a bit of social talk is effective.
Great initiative! Life is about the simple things. It’s has to be now - as the economy and society has collapsed…
This is a the way, and becoming a little more fit helps with mental health.
I wish Germany had these avenues too, especially for immigrants and expats! Living in Germany has been the most isolating and alienating experience ever.
As a Brit(female) living in Germany,I agree with you.The idea to help others who are in need without gaining financial profit ,is a wonderful and rewarding 😊gesture
It's about time, the best medicine. We need daytime and evening groups it is the social aspect that people need. If mixed with exercise, where possible is even better.
Free gym membership would help reduce NHS costs.
Nothing stops people from joining a choir, free course, art school, cafe card club, book club, yoga club, walking club.
God,thank you for all dogs…
They are human friends 🙏❤️🕯️
Fantastic all round ❤
Turn off social media and get out and go for a walk every now and then.
It's a good idea. Instead of prescribing medicines and antidepressants the NHS should encourage patients with depression to try a new sport or hobby. One subsidised taster session per patient per year would save the government money in the long term
its why i like to be out and about but sometimes people just want someone to talk to it doesn't have to be about something specific but small talk like shoes or how life is
The problem is People
bravo!
amazing!
Im alone too empty nester hard nowadays and online doesnt help
The idea is good but Jeez how to make it a stigma for the other person. Those big blue jackets with patches all over them! Might as well have a sign saying ‘This person with us is LONELY’!
"I am here with my patient doing a good deed." Good idea but lose the jackets.
Tshirts with "Im with lonely" and a big arrow.
Valid observation. I wonder if the jackets were brought out for the video.
@@H-youtube7 Communal narcissism in a nutshell. :(
Everyone is lonely
We also have the Men Shed, it's a great organisation for men everywhere and women, From AUSTRALIA ❤
These programs are so neat. I'd love to see them replicated elsewhere.
I want to move there
I get depression of youtube advertising
There are ways. Choose not to.
So everything get you people depressed. I think you need sunshine because it is weird everything gets people depressed. I think the word depression is overrated.
well-said!! You can be quite content under a dark cloudy rainy sky! these so-called depressed people should get over themselves, with all due respect of course!
Working takes up so much time you don't even have the time to socialise except with your coworkers ☠️💀
For sure
i'ts hard to mingle and make friends when none of your neighbours speak the same language, are wearing burkas ,can't leave home without a male relative guardian and it's too dangerous to walk in the streets
Its better for society to have Racists as lonely,❤
@@Richman579 But they're missing out on meeting people who might know the area better or have different views.
@@Richman579this message wasn’t racist. It described a fact .
Way to go! Hoping more doctors follow this example and get inspired to help people in a way that costs nothing but do great for everyone's mind!
I recently read that creatine can significantly reduce the depression.
Get rid of Kier Starmer! The whole country would be happier!
Lol.
they're in the uk, going outside might make things worse
I find visiting a pub is of even more benefit.
Perfectly valid as long as you’re not misusing alcohol or spending more than you can afford.
@@morstyrannis1951 Wrong on both counts!
People need a doctor to tell them this?
Great.
100% agree depression hits London and makes people miserable, I believe camaraderie and friendship will ease peoples lives
No, thank you. I feel more depressed when I'm surrounded by people.
😂
try inviting other people for a tea or coffee once in a while, and see how the interaction grows quickly. Somehow, people here dont do that or do very little.
The price of my fresh fruit juice in local COOP makes me depressed, it's £2,60.
until it rains
Dry Humour.
❤🙏
Most towns in Britain have a level of knife crime and general violence that many are afraid to go out to mingle.
Lol. Please tell me you're joking?
I haven't owned a car for the last 30 years, so am walking outdoors most days. I've literally never experienced any crime during that time.
Yea right 😂 I try to make the effort most days to say hello to people I pass and I'm usually ignored or made out to be invisible, I have aspergers so I'm not the best socially and that's why I like to try and develop social skills and make the effort, but society just feels ignorant, I run alot which helps depression and the ones who do strike conversation are usually local dog walkers or people who are also being active and share the same passion for running
British are open. As immigrant in German speaking country, it is so hard since people are not social in the first place
No ⛱️ Summer in UK 🌞.... The horrible weather doesn't help people......
I spent so much time searching for the drug mingling 😅
Great initiative! Best regards from a viewer in Ukraine. Peace.
How do they manage matters like "Who can get along with who?"
Looking around money is all thats left
Yeah, I just don’t like most people though
Lol
i like craft groups
Exactly definitely need these men and women groups in the United States ❤
It'll just be a different "stress".
I wish i could mingle but everybody is so toxic around me😢
Sadly it has been irresponsible dog owners that have hindered my going out in public. I was bitten by someone's dog and then the owner refused to acknowledge me telling them that their dog had bitten me. Since then, I do not want someone else to allow their dog right up to me, I should be permitted to walk without that but, no, too many dog owners don't care or want to ignore what their dog is doing. I can appreciate that some people enjoy dogs but why should they force them on others without permission?
Dog owners are a different breed.
I agree. Dogs are everywhere, if you don't care for them, you're an outcast. Everywhere is 'dog friendly ' now', ie excludes those who are not comfortable around dogs. I've had to abandon favourite walks because I've been hassled by five or more dogs being walked by women who are unable to control them.
Bravo 👏🏾 and million Thanks to all the Furry gals n guys for the wonderful time n Therapy you give unconditionally to the once in need dealing with depressions n mental health issues during their difficulties . ❤️
I dont even want to talk to people they always ask stpd questions about your personal life. Some came to the degree of rudeness where they ask "are you virgin" or just label you. Hello, Turkey! Personal life of tourists isn't your business stop asking stpd questions.
No, thanks! Real human social relationships and groups is best!!
"Please bother someone else and not me, your busy GP"
If that was a joke then it failed miserably.
Can i have social interaction here?
❤
😂😂😂
That would develop a depression in me 🤣🤣🤣
This shows how weak social framework in uk
Mental health has been created because of social media etc etc . Stop falling into the trap of Facebook and that rubbish and connect with actual people.
