It does seem hard to compare to the likes of Reve D without having the programming feature usable. I have the same servo but its called just AFRC (and a couple reve Ds). I got the AFRC combo with their latest gyro, and program dongle. Was able to tune the servo to be a lot smoother then the base tune, furthermore was able to activate Sanwa SSR mode, and interface it with my Sanwa radio. 100 percent gain if you want it, no wobbles. It doesn't take over the steering as much as a Reve D servo, and some prefer that, or the chassis calls for it - but in my opinion, for the price that AFRC is one bad ass, capable combo!
Try the following. Plug the USB into a BLUE HIGH SPEED USB PORT on your laptop/pc by itself. THEN plug the steering servo cable into the USB. I had the same problem that you did but because the cables are all black, I simply did not have the steering servo cable connected the correct way as all of the cables on my servo are black. When the USB device is reading properly a small green ligh flashes on the USB constantly. The moment I unplugged the steering servo cable and flipped it and then plugged it back in, it worked. Once connected properly the software will say "Success read parameter!" and then you will be able to adjust and save your settings. I've gotten a lot out of your channel, and I hope this works for you. Thank you.
@@RoadsideRC also, have the software open on the laptop prior to doing all of the steps above. If you plug the steering servo into the USB the wrong way, then you must close the software, pull out the USB and start afresh. So the steps are = 1 open software, 2 USB by itself in. 3 steering servo cable inserted into USB the flipped direction and 4 check the USB light is blinking and press read on your software. Then make your software changes and hit write, and then press exit.👍
That programmer will work, I have the same parts and program it just fine. You do however have to plug it in a certain way. You have to launch the software with nothing plugged in, then plug in the adapter and wait for it to say adapter plugged in. then plug the servo into the programmer.
Thanks for the tip. I emailed AGFRC, and their response was that this programmer would not work - literally directly from them. Said I needed to get a different one.
I have been running just AGFRc servos for 2 plus years ...best one is the 45 kg in my XMAXX its been there for 2 plus years jet 1/10 scale 8.4 volt killer .....this is what got my to start using their products no outlandish clams just plain power , speed or winch ...yes one servo has all the capability's....LOsi dray car has same in it works great ....

I think it had something to do with the plug on the programmer: the programmer fit loosely into the USB port on my laptop, unlike other items that fit tightly. If I jiggled the programmer a bit it would connect, but it would not stay connected. I'm returning the AGFRC servo to Amazon: I bought a Yokomo SP-03 D servo and USB programmer, which both work great. I wish the AGFRC servo programmer would have worked: it would have been a nice budget servo and programmer combination.
I think I really should of waited when I bought my car. Front motors are very difficult to manage the weight distribution on. I find the back is WAY to light and the front WAY to heavy. Of course everyone who I ask got lots of input on Rear motor or MID motor cars. lol Another great Video Troy. Servo looks pretty decent and too bad about the software acting weird on ya.. Have a good one.. :)
Try relocating your battery. It makes a big difference. My first rc drift car was an mst fxx, and I had the same issue. It's esp frustrating when everyone else has a 60/40 rear bias. Shorty battery mounted laterally on your upper deck right in front of the rear shock tower was enough to compensate for the front motor
Your connexion problem could be your usb not providing enough current. I have seen similar behavior before. Try using an externally powered usb hub if you have one.
Did I miss something with the links? The Reve-D cost 62.99 according to the link in your other video, and this AGFRC costs 68.99 through the link you provided. I am trying to think if I am just not getting it (not unusual for me LOL)
Perhaps the usb port is not capable of supplying enough current. It is unlikely, but if you have a powered usd hub laying around you could give that a try.
Great review video. I love AGFRC servos in my crawlers and looking to get another one for a winch. I think your problem is that you need the V3 USB dongle not the V2 that you have. They came out with servos that are marked with the "A" symbol per the company which indicates the servo is programmable. I looked on the company's website for that model servo and it shows the V3 USB dongle with it.

@@RoadsideRCJust had to replug again. I had it happen to me once using another redownloaded software. Never happened to me with the first software I downloaded. Was really looking forward to seeing a comparison with reved servo. A lot of the guys who used reved servo here has switched to agf servo. It is faster and has better resistance to gyro shake with that damping setup in the programming.

I don't have any direct experience with the OMG gyro, so can't tell you much there. AGFRC has a newer version of this servo out that is supposed to be much better.

Been watching quite a few of your vids! Awesome content! Any thoughts on HSP rtr drift car? I bought one on eBay for $135 and it's decent. Wondering on what you would upgrade if you where a newbie and just getting into drifting? Like staying with brushed motors and nimh batteries and such. Thanks ahead for any input.
That is very similar to the Redcat drift cars I have. They are for a completely different use than a proper RWD car. I personally don't modify them at all. I leave them bone-stock, bash them around, and that is it. I leave all the mods to my RWD cars.

Hey Troy, I am looking for an economically priced servo for my drift car. You didn't seem to impressed with this one and I dont see many other budget drift servos on the channel. Do you have any recommendations? Do you think the zoskay 35kg pro would be ok for this application or would that be a waste of time and money? I've managed to keep the costs down of this build considerably while still using good quality parts. For example, I did decide to give the Onisiki gyro a try and was able to get that from Amain for around $55 with coupons. Thanks in advance!!!
More to come on this on my channel. Testing isn't done yet. Overall, I do like this AGFRC servo. Just unfortunate that I couldn't get the programmer to work. Still, worked fine without tuning. I never did. The company told me I had the wrong dongle. Got the new dongle - just still never plugged it in. Works like a champ just as it comes out of the box.

Yes, you are right.
The mid to rear motor really is the way to go. Front motor is fun, and possibly more "scale" but really starting to disappear.

That ReveD price must have reduced. It is normally higher. You also have to purchase the ReveD programmer separately, for another $20ish.

I never programmed it - but did use it unprogrammed without an issue. Don't worry - it will do great for you.

The Rev D servos are made by agf in the same factory with the same parts 😂😂😂
A lot of companies do this - but doesn't mean the software loaded on them is the same. Or even that the parts are physically the same.
