I love EWJ 1. I Remember playing it as a kid. When i got older i bought it on my xbox. The newer verson had different difeculties. Easy, normal, hard and Original. Original was so damn hard. I beat it pretty easely on normal though.
EWJ1 is much harder in my opinion, if I can complete EWJ2 I wouldn't call it hard If you press up and B+C you do a shield, it's pretty useless but a lesser known move EWJ the cartoon was god tier The picture flags give you the password for the level when collected can of worms are continues lastly for the love of god use your gun!
The cartoon was indeed spectacular. It helps explain a lot of the lore (like why the puppy gets angry; I think he was a pacifist with rage issues?) And yes PLEASE ACTUALLY SHOOT THINGS.
I wish I could view that cartoon on any of the plethora of streaming services but alas the memory of getting up on Saturday turning in the TV eating breakfast and watch the cartoon while the rest of your family still sleeps will die with me I guess. And yes ewj 1 is awesome. Just never could get passed the submarine level however.
I swear these let's plays and movie/tv reaction channels purposely act stupid and fake because they think it will make the content more exciting but it's really just annoying. Not accusing him of doing that but it's clear as day for many other's and it's torture.
Earthworm Jim 2 is still a classic, but it is _significantly_ easier than the first game. I still wouldn't call the first Earthworm Jim game an extraordinarily hard game, though. It is challenging, yeah, but a lot of it is just learning the levels. The first Earthworm Jim also has way more actual platforming compared to this game. Earthworm Jim 2 just kind of throws a bunch of gimmicks at you in every level. 😅

Love the 16bit Earthworm Jim games soooo much. The first one was much harder, especially Tube Race! Oh, that level had me stuck for years! I was super impressed by the 3D-ish effect in the puppy bonus stages at the time

This was one of my favorite games growing up, it was one of the few Sega Genesis games I remember owning and playing constantly! Never really played much of the first one, but this 2nd one was my jam! I also loved Earthworm Jim 3D, even though it single handedly killed the franchise because of how bad it was considered, but I have some fond memories playing it back in the day! Here's hoping this franchise returns some day with an actual new game!

You can definitely see the 90s influence on this game. It's oddball comedy and animation is like Ren & Stimpy, there are Megaman elements of gameplay, and the tree sprites look a lot like other 90s platformers like Lion King.
I grew up with this game, so I forget how mind-bogglingly silly it is. Just the sheer bafflement on Ryu's face when he reads "Jim is a Blind Cave Salamander" so great.
I was like "somethings off here...this isn't the ewj i remember...i remember riding around on that rocket thing and grappling ledges and failing alot of parkour" But this one was good too. I never even knew they made a second one so this was still nice to watch.
Gem of a game right here. EWJ1 was harder and established the world/characters but EWJ2 took everything to the next level with better animation, better music, more clever levels/level variety, more jokes.... There are so many 90's games that now we can play with emulators, that we did not have a chance to get when we were younger, it makes me want to go back and check them out, we are missing some hidden gems for sure

Well done 🙂 Puppy love is an intense childhood memory of mine. Overall the EWJ is this whacky "anything can happen" series that shines by its creativity more than its difficulty. Except for understanding why there are cows at the end of each level, there isn't much story you're missing by playing EWJ2 first.
OMG this is my childhood in a video! EWJ was a cartoon. It was awesome zany madness. The puppy that came to kill you was Peter Puppy he was cursed by Evil the Cat it’s like a whole thing! I remember my dad and I trying repeatedly to complete this and the first game. Hope you have fun with number 1 and get to finish number 2!
I've played this game quite a lot when I was a kid (on the SNES though). I'm not sure if I've ever beaten it, but I do remember all levels shown here. It's not super hard. I believe EWJ 1 is much harder, though I never really played it.

I remember reading video game mags and making a Collage with Earth Worm Jim 2 from all the adds they had. I was so hyped for this game, it is an underrated classic. So weird and cartoon! It was great seeing this, brought back so many good childhood memories. I beat Earth Worm Jim 1 as a kid, Own it on Xbox but couldn't beat it on xbox. The Submarine level is nowhere near as hard as the TMNT water level. The hell level on EWJ1 on xbox i believe has some issue with the hook or platform I couldn't reach. But still great vid and great games. I recall they were supposed to do EWJ3 in 3D on Playstation but id recall it getting pushed back and then never actually coming out.

See, you need to read the manual. Yes, it covers a lot of things Jim can do and what icons are what, but that's not why. Good ol' Shiny, putting jokes in every square inch of game available.
See, here's the thing. Earthworm Jim 2 is only hard for a couple of reasons: 1) Puppy love. The higher the difficulty, the more rounds you need to complete, Difficult being the most at 15. (5 rounds and 3 parts) Pete takes 30% HP when you drop 4 puppies, and Psycrow counters the bombs in later rounds. 2) Villi People/Jim's Now a Blind Cave Salamander, The Flyin' King and Inflated Head are gameplay genre shifts, which are tricky to learn and master on first runs. 3) The actual platforming stages also have gimmicks. Anything But Tangerines has the Granny stairs you need to learn to ride up. It also requires carrying pigs and using them in certain spots. Lorenzen's Soil requires you to use your laser gun to dig your way out to the end of the stage. Udderly Abducted requires you to carry cows to barns to lift gates by milking them to fill buckets. Some said cows need to be dunked in a bathtub first, or else they explode. ISO 9000 requires carrying mouse cages to devices that lead you further in the level, and you also have to scramble back and forth on the floor to send papers flying so that the killer cabinets eat them instead of you. At the end of that stage, you need to chase a door by tripping it with a cabinet sticking out its foot to catch it. Level Ate, has you being chased by a salt shaker trying to spray you as a part of food. See Jim Run, Run Jim Run has you boosting and swinging your way to Princess What's Her Name. So yeah, it's a hard game, but having played the first couple levels a few times when I was young, I found all the secrets and eventually got better as I aged. Get those lives, and look for those slimy ceilings to swing on for Chip Butty Sandwiches. 200% HP and 9 lives will really help (technically 10 since 0 counts). Also, if you're gonna play this game, either use the SNES version or apply the 6 button patch hack to the Genesis version. Swapping weapons helps. A LOT.

Exactly. Ej2 went balistic in terms of modes and playtype some more fun than others. Overall EJ1 is the better of the two

Man Earthworm Jim is such a fever dream. The first one has the underwater glass submarine level, which is an absolute nightmare.
To this day I have never finished that stage. Just couldn't make it without breaking it.

ISO 9000 requires carrying mouse cages to devices that lead you further in the level, and you also have to scramble back and forth on the floor to send papers flying so that the killer cabinets eat them instead of you. At the end of that stage, you need to chase a door by tripping it with a cabinet sticking out its foot to catch it. Level Ate, has you being chased by a salt shaker trying to spray you as a part of food. See Jim Run, Run Jim Run has you boosting and swinging your way to Princess What's Her Name.
So yeah, it's a hard game, but having played the first couple levels a few times when I was young, I found all the secrets and eventually got better as I aged. Get those lives, and look for those slimy ceilings to swing on for Chip Butty Sandwiches. 200% HP and 9 lives will really help (technically 10 since 0 counts).
Also, if you're gonna play this game, either use the SNES version or apply the 6 button patch hack to the Genesis version. Swapping weapons helps. A LOT.
