While you recognized James Earl Jones as Mufasa from The Lion King (as well as Darth Vader), Madge Sinclair, the Queen also played the role of Sarabi, Simba’s mother in The Lion King as well, reuniting the pair again in very fitting roles.

See You Next Wednesday is a recurring gag in most of the films directed by John Landis, usually referring to a fictional film that is rarely seen and never in its entirety. Each instance of See You Next Wednesday in Landis's films seems to be a completely different film. This version has Jamie Lee Curits and Dan Ackryod, two stars he was in with in TRADING PLACES.

Arsenio Hall is a comedian and actor, like Eddie Murphy, but obviously not as big. Shortly after this movie came out, he got a talk show, The Arsenio Hall Show, which was popular in the early 90s. Most people a lot older than you know him from that and this movie. Anyways, that was a fun reaction and solid analysis, Ollie. Thanks.

"So why did you come here?"
    "To find something special."
"It's a long way to travel."
"No journey is too great when one finds what he seeks."
Fun Fact: Cuba Gooding Jr. (an Oscar winner) and Vondie Curtis-Hall (an Emmy and SAG Award nominee) made their first on-screen appearances in this film.
Zamunda Forever Fact: Zamunda is the name of the fictional African country the main characters are from. This name was taken from a Richard Pryor routine where he referred to a fictional African tribe of the same name.
Double Duty Fact: This was the first time Eddie Murphy played multiple characters in the same film, inspired by Peter Sellers who did the same in Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb (1964). This would become a trademark of Murphy. After the make-up and clothing was applied for the Saul character, Eddie Murphy wanted to test the make-up and costume out. He got a golf cart and drove from one studio department to another in Paramount Studios. He would get out of the cart and say "Hi. I'm Eddie Murphy." in his regular voice. No one believed him.
Before The MCU Fact: The homeless men that receive the money from Prince Akeem (Eddie Murphy) are the Duke brothers (Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche) from Trading Places (1983) also directed by John Landis. In that movie, Billy Ray Valentine (Eddie Murphy) was responsible for The Dukes losing their fortune. The Dukes theme from the movie can be heard in the background. Apparently, Landis didn't like the idea because it would be too self-referential, even though he is known for breaking the fourth wall in his movies. It led to a conflict with producer George Folsey Jr., until star Eddie Murphy decided that it was a great idea.

  • @ZeroOskul
    @ZeroOskul ปีที่แล้ว +2

21:39 Ralph Bellamy is best remembered as the fiencee from the 1940 Cary Grant classic "His Girl Friday" and Don Ameche played the title role in "The Story of Alexander Graham Bell" from 1939; the two had costarred with Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd as the stock magnate villains, Randolph and Mortimer Duke, in 1983's "Trading Places".
Their appearance here as the same characters makes this movie a low-key sequel to that movie.

Not that many people know that. However, i will say this...while the fries are not as good as they were pre-1992 (ish), they are better than they were in the late 90's. First, they removed the beef tallow because they thought it was bad for you, and added fats that were much worse. It actually took them years to get the formula as "healthy" as they were before they started the whole mess. The way they are made now is definitely the best they've tasted since they got rid of the beef tallow.

Think John Landis and Eddie Murphy had a fallen out during this movie or just after because I think Eddie Murphy didn't support him with his trial over the Twilight Zone Movie accident. Think they patched it up later tho.

I don't know if anyone told you but you should rewatch eddie murphy movies in order. If not you will miss some jokes abs through backs. That's why you don't know who randolph abs mortimer are. Watch trading places to find out. Then watch all the eddie murphy movies you want to see in order. Do not watch Life without seeing Harlem Knights first.

I hope you react to this film's 2021 sequel, "Coming 2 America." It's almost just as good!

That HAS to be a joke. It not only was "not as good," it was absolutely awful. It barely even qualifies as a movie. And i don't say the latter statement just because it was really bad. The sequel is more like a burlesque stage show celebrating the original film. There are bad sequels in the world, but this is only one that is not only terrible, but is not really even a movie.

*Coming 2 America* had me up till the circumcision scene which made absolutely no sense plotwise, storywise, or comedywise and it ruined the rest of the movie.
The whole thing is good but that scene is the villain beat that comes at almost exactly the halfway point so everything in the movie revolves around it, leads to it and builds out of it, and it just ruins the thing.
Also, the big Pepsi ad with the savannah grass burgers at the start is just stupid. You can get past it but then it only builds to the circumcision scene and deflates thereafter.

Eddie Murphy is so talented that he played a white Jewish man way back in 1988, and it fooled you in 2023.
