- Singapore is one of the most expensive cities in the world. Today I asked people on Orchard Road how much they earn, what position / job they work in and if this is enough to pay their bills.
I am a Swiss Expat living in Singapore and love to share everything I experience in this beautiful city-state🇸🇬

Hi, about 45% of the population are not Singaporeans.
A better location might be in HDB estates.
Nice video, love the way you show confident when interviewing Singaporean :D
thank you so much! Singaporeans are generally super friendly so it wasnt hard ;)
You’re very good at interviewing people 😍 need more of this!!
Thank you😊☺️😇
@@Swizzyinsg you should host your very own podcast, youre very talented person
i actually wish i could!!! but i dont have timeee hahah@@user-dg7gs4hv6v
Title should be: asking foreigners how much they earn per mth in sg
There are also some locals!
nice one keep it up!
Tysm for supporting!
too many high spenders n tourist in orchard hahaha
but personally i feel that anything below 5k is quite tough for a family especially with the rising cost of living
Yes agree!
You will find much more luck interviewing earners at Raffles Place where central business district is - Orchard area is more for tourists.
Noted!
Very interesting!!
😊😊😊
Ahh this is actually very useful for me and comes at a perfect time.Thank you for the video!
I earn 2000 GBP/m (after tax) but I think I could earn much more in Singapore for what I do (IT administration)
IT is highly in demand in SG!!
Unless you're transferring internally, or being the top 1% in the industry, otherwise, don't bother lol. Nearly impossible for foreigners. :D
@@neloangelo__13 hmmm
“asking singaporeans” dude the first person itself isn’t even a local
Maybe he is PR?
@@Swizzyinsg still not a singaporean… a singaporean to me is a person that’s born and brought up here
They are foreign workers from from this region ( Asean + Asia country ).
Who do you mean?
@@Swizzyinsg Those people you assumed as tourists. They are not.
@@kamariahabdrahim6963 how do you know?
You are very simple by respect others freedom of not commenting those who are not cooperating...❤

Hello my name is Mahavir Adhikari I am from India currently live in Thailand I sell about South Indian food in Thailand the cheapest food in Thailand only 70 Thai Bhatt more than 1000 customer per day so calculate into Singaporean dollars, if you go to eat South Indian food in any Indian restaurant it cost you around 150 to 200 BHATT......
Wrong place to interview Singaporeans as stated in your title.
Why?
@@Swizzyinsgnot much singaporeans travel to orchard. If you were to be at city hall or tanjong pagar during the weekdays lunch time. I do believe there will be some singaporean be willing to be interview
Orchard is known for the upper class and expat area
Maybe you'll get more responses if you go to the hawker centre and not Orchard Road! 😂
Good idea!!
Question for you:
How much do you earn per month?
:)
Unfortunately it is very unstable... :( how about you
How unstable?@@Swizzyinsg
Were those salaries before or after tax? Does Singapore provide free medical insurance?
Correct me if I am wrong but the problem in Singapore is real estate. If that is somehow taken care of, you can manage with very little, eat well etc. Make a video about rent and mortgage payments. And utilities.
It doesn't matter whether it's before or after tax because there it's pretty much the same thing anyway.
After the tax reductions you'd pay less than 5% of your earnings for the year... which is usually less than your year end bonus. So yeah, you wouldn't even notice the amount you lose to taxes.
As for free medical insurance, it does provide some for citizens. Most citizens get subsidies but may still have to pay a little.
Thank you for your input! as far as I knoe its before Tax😇
@@lunazero433 it's not true that you only pay
@@Ceryllove yes but no one in this video makes more than 120k/year so this means that everyone here pays 5% or less even if we assume they have 0 reductions.
Foreigners don't pay 15%, they simply get fewer reductions but the tax rate is the same.
Singapore does not provide free medical insurance. However, we have Medishield which is compulsory for all Singaporean and PR, and is paid by our CPF. Our medical bills are also subsidized based on individual / family earning, which is called mean testing. Basically, if you earn more then u pay more. This health financing system allows Singapore to have enough resources to improve our healthcare system and avoid users from abusing the system (like the free universal healthcare system).
What do you spend most money on: FOOD 😂
The answer probably 95% Singaporeans would give🙈😄
I don't believe the salary of 1k.
@@user-fb7rf4kr5k as s washer? Why not?
I'm in SG ATM from Melbourne Australia and the food here is really good & cheap, hawkers or restaurants so I can understand why people here likes to eat out so much ❤😅

Hey Lady.. you are interviewing foreigners in SG .. why dun you go to heartland and interview those eating at coffee shop

wanna do a video about a "taboo subject" in Singapore? do one on the Misandryist and Authoritarian Nanny State?
here only male citizens and offenders are subjected to forced conscription and caning! fight forced conscription of men as this is a blatant human rights violation and misandry!
Not sure I understood you correctly. What question(s) should I ask?
ask the random man in the street who is singaporean :
#1 do you agree with state propaganda that forced conscription is a legitimate rite of passage where boys turn into men?
#2 if given a choice would you choose to don a uniform and do the state's bidding or make life choices of your own?
#3 Tha state trumpets gender equality and that national defence is important : is having only male citizens doinh "NS" both contradictory and misandryist w.r.t the above?@@Swizzyinsg
@@phatmeow7764 good inputs, thank you!
Haha this is a better example of where you should be interviewing actual Singaporeans, and How you should conduct an interview with locals here :) th-cam.com/video/N70VgtLPr24/w-d-xo.html
Orchard Road is a tourist hot spot... i don't think you'll be able to find many people who actually wants to do interviews
Yes I should go somewhere else you are right’ which area would be good?
@@Swizzyinsg Raffles Place, Bugis, Tanjong Pagar. These areas are where the majority of average Singaporeans of all levels work at (from fresh graduates to higher management). You will have a more balanced perspective. I think the interview done by TheSmartLocal in the link above is as accurate as can be. Of course, salary expectation varies widely depending on lifestyle choices and different life stages.
@@LLcreates thank you for sharing!
Hii
Hi☺️

Young singaporeans have lots of disposable income because they live rent-free under their parent's roof until they get married. And 96% of households own their home. Much mollycoddling and spoonfeeding from the parents. And think about the number of singaporean households who employ domestic helpers. GenZ young singaporeans don't do any household chores and have bad spending and savings habits. Topics for you to think about so that you learn more about singaporeans more than skin deep.
Thank you for sharing!
lol most of then lie about their salary. Anyway, don't u ever heard of "Never ask a women her age, a man his salary"? Double true in Singapore.
hmmm why would they lie?
money no enough best take your money give it to pap
