Time to electrify the G&SW route so that it can be used by Pendolino’s when the west coast line is closed, and to allow a huge improvement in the services for the local trains.

In Germany we still have a lot of Semaphores, currently (year 2024) around 350 train stations in Germany have old mechanical signals/semaphore signals. Most of the signals are controlled from signal boxes by chains and wires by local railway staff !

Thank you for your efforts in refurbishment of these signals boys, sorry the government has let you down in not getting them changed to colour light signals. Appreciated all the same.

It would have been nice to see the mechanical action at work between the switch handle and the outside signal while you were there.

Unfortunately this wasn't possible while the team were working on the kit - will bear it in mind for future videos though!

And please electrify the East Kilbride line too, we need that...
If you do electrify it, it can be used for 385/0s, 380s, 318's and 320's, because coming to terms and actually thinking about it. The people of East Kilbride deserve better. As they would not want to be stuck on overcrowded 2 car diesel trains coming from East Kilbride down to Glasgow, without even any air con, especially when its hot and stuffy in the summer. And it will make a huge improvement to the local people in the community. (Possibly remove the old footbridge at Clarkston, replacing it with a step-free access one, as it would be too low to install overhead wires, and also add step free access to Pollokshaws West.)
156's are mostly known to be considered as a greenhouse on rails, but also electrify the line from Glasgow to Carlisle via Pollokshaws West whenever the west coast line to Carlisle via Carstairs is closed. This would mostly make a difference for services.
But talking about the East Kilbride line electrification, it would make a difference to the people in the community, and the people in East Kilbride.

Nice to see these old signalling to be retained but with the electrification to Barrhead. I think that these would be replaced by new LED signalling systems.
And possibly extend the electrification to Kilmarnock if there are plans to extend overhead wires to Kilmarnock. Or ScotRail to order new Bi-mode trains that would cater for the Glasgow South Western Line and other lines in Scotland that aren’t electrified.

No, please no new LED signals. The old ones look fancy, with a glass lens cover

Why would you spend extra money to replace the entire signal control system when it does it's job perfectly fine?
Lugton is an intermediate box between Barrhead (now controlled from Glasgow) and Kilmarnock that is still mechanically controlled so you might as well replace the signals with the signalling control system when the line is (eventually) electrified.

So you're saying, the new electric trains will be using these semaphores for signalling?

No the electrifcation is only Glasgow to Barrhead. This is about 7 miles south of Barrhead.

These signals are beyond the current electrification to Barrhead. We're just taking advantage of the additional access to carry out this work while the line is closed through to Kilmarnock.
