First time I have left a comment. This play by play video in length is by far the best video you have done. Please do more and talk about the braking a little more while you are riding. The braking video was ok, but very short.
Dan, (long time watcher, first-time poster) LOL, In tree-riding often you come across downed trees, My personal approach to crossing them is to get close to the downed tree with momentum, let off the throttle, and possibly stab the brake, to "bounce the front end of the sled down then as it rebounds, pin the throttle and pull on the bars to lift the skis (kind of a bunny hop maneuver), as the skis cross the log (if you let your skis hit the log you get bounced downhill and/or the snowmobile, bucks). Then I let off the throttle and (i dont know how to explain this) but deweight the sled by almost jumping in the air, the rear skid compresses on the log allowing the track to roll over the log while "coasting", as my feet come back into full contact on the running boards from the "deweighting hop" I time it, so the track is just over the log and your back into the throttle as needed to regain lost momentum. this is the first time I have written what I do down so the first time so I hope it's understandable. crossing a marginally covered log can be so tricky because your track basically has no traction at all, and what I do is so critical to timing and feel for each situation, I try to explain it to people and they look at me like I am crazy. with your ability to explain maybe it could be a topic to cover. analogus to his is crossing a ditch or creek by "bunny hoping" the sled......momentum, stab the brake, on the front suspension rebound pin the throttle, as the track goes up the small wall of snow created by the "hole" created by the skis and the belly pan pushing into the snow you let off the trottle and deweight the sled. the sled can actually "hop". I know you do what I am trying to convey. it is SO HELPFUL when you can do it seamlessly.

You and Dylan taught me everything about riding trees when you pushed me out of my comfort zone and took me into zones that I would have never gone into if it wasn’t for your instruction and encouragement. I tell everyone how valuable you guys are. Your transfer of knowledge still works for me to this day. Bulldogging your sled down a steep downhill is one of those moves I think a lot of people don’t know how to use. Maybe one you could teach about some time. Thank you Dan for all you do to make the sled community a kick ass place to be.

Excellent! Great "application video" for all the fundamental pieces you have done previously. Plus I picked up a new tidbit abt hopovers. I ride trees in the Snowys most of the time, many of the same scenarios you included. Same snow (powder on set up layers). This was conditions I can connect to. Pls keep `em coming !

I really like how you’ve done the last few videos. The talk over is excellent. I’m 55 and have been riding sense the 90- 91 season, off trail sense 94. So I have a lot of years of bad habits I’m trying to beak. My biggest problem is getting pulled off the back of the sled, riding wrong foot forward. Please explain how you get back on the sled.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING WHAT YOU DO!! I’m a first year slender / long time backcountry skier and single track dirt bike rider. Sledding, to me, is the combination of these two loves of mine. I’m riding a 2008 rmk 700 and executing maneuvers that my riding buddies are dong on their new 850’s. This is all thanks to you Dan. I’ve studied all of your instructional videos and practiced, practiced, practiced!! By no means am I where I want to be but I’m improving ever ride! You rock!!
I have learned so much from these videos. I finally feel I am a okay rider in the trees I could do bow ties re entrys and hop overs in open areas. But finally started doing it in the trees this year. All the practice in open areas has translated Into me starting to get stuck or needing to change lines and just using a bow tie hop over or re entry without questioning it. Thanks for all the videos over the years.

on my turbo nytro i had, I had to think 5 steps ahead in case i got stuck or I needed an avenue out. That sled definately made me a better rider now that in rockin a 22 850 pro 155

I'd love to see instructions on how to ride a 4-stroke like this. I have friends who drive 300 hp Sidewinders everywhere you can drive a light 2-stroke, but I've noticed they use the brake a lot as the 4-stroke will build so much more speed. I had a 280 hp SW MTX which was great to drive in the deep stuff, but I was always building too much speed and lost control at times. And, yes, when you get stuck you need your buddies many times as these machines weighs a lot, but the rush of all that horsepower is addictive ;)
You should add a camera to the back bumper Dan. So we can see footwork and body position

7:15. Idk if that's a patriot boost or just a regular 850 but if I was on a turbo sled I would probably try to just wheelie right over those trees. But that explains why my sleds are always broken

I think once you switch to finger throttle you can't ever go back. Your right hand grip is about 10x stronger with being able to be on the throttle 100% of the time as well.
