These paints are so pretty. Maybe one day I will add them to my paint collection. I finally received my Superior 42 fan watercolors...I'll be using them this weekend for sure. Thanks for the info Lindsay!
I'm surprised at how transparent these paints are. Also they are really pastel, as you pointed out, often products that state they are pastel frequently aren't. I would absolutely use these for coloring in stamped images. Perfect for splatter backgrounds too.
OOOOOOooooooooo these colours! And i can never get enough macarons!! Theyre just so cute in pastel shades I havent seen this in South Africa yet, but will keep my eyes open
I'm really excited to receive these! Lately, I've really been into pastel colors like a lot of people. I have many pastel sets but I like how these layer. I love your painting of the macarons. Beautiful!

I love the few derwent products I have and these will need to be my next one! They are out of stock already - these people should be paying you!!!! I will wait for amazon and use the link when they come back in - thanks again for helping me make informed decisions on how to spend my craft budget.
Me too! Just found out about them from the Cass email and got them with the free waterbrush. I’m always drawn to pastel shades, and this set seemed like a good idea because you need so much dilution to get them with regular watercolours. I, too, wish there was a brown.
Those look delish!! I wanted to share something that someone like you who does several medium might enjoy. One type of art that I enjoy is colored pencils. The OMS is a pain and those blender pencils really don’t work as we all know so I came up with something that made sense. I have a Caran ‘de ache water brush, the medium one with the fibrous point. I used the 125 neutral thin and filled up the brush and tested blending 6 types of professional colored pencils. There is no mess, no Gamsol headache and to clean it I just push the button and wipe it on a paper towel. The brush is so self contained that I put it in my out and about art bag and can accomplish quite a bit just on one filling of the brush. Nothing was worse than that oily residue. We don’t have Zest it here in the US and the neutral odorless 125 thin I bought through Blick’s. Now we have a real blender and I wanted to share this with you. Maybe some plein aire colored pencils? Maybe about time. Take care. I left a sample of a blended hodgepodge on a review for the Caran ‘de ache water brushes. It will probably take a couple of days to show up.
Thank you for this review. I wish I had had a set of these about four years ago when I colored a picture of a unicorn in a coloring book. 1. I can care less about the water brush. I have brushes. 2. I expect these to be extremely light. 3. I just went to Derwent web site, signed up, and am waiting for them to be in stock. 4. Already have ideas how I can use these in card making.
This would be fun to have. A leaf green & a mocha would be the great. Maybe they’ll see this & offer single colors. Thanks for Demo. Out of stock already.
Very interesting, I am tempted but I also saw that White Nights has recently released beautiful pastel colours in 1/2 pans and they are super affordable, at least here in the U.K. Decisions
Great review. I love pastel sets and may have to add this one for the colors, as these do seem to be true pastels where other sets have some colors that seem more “bright”. Thanks!
Thank You so much for the in detail review. Loved it as I have so much stash, I must stop. Im sure I can find something like these. The colores are lovely. Hope you had a great mothers Day.
Lindsay why are you torching me??? What are Macaroons, here is a shocker, I have never had one. I watched the other upload of the wonderous piled Macaroons and now you have them here. I watched the creation of the cupcake. Why Lindsay, why are you tempting me with these incredible sweet treats? Will someone please invent scratch and sniff computer screens?? Oh I am so hungry now. What are your thoughts on Gouache Watercolors, and Gouache Acrylic paints, thank you for the creative upload.
Oh! These are so pretty! Would you maybe consider doing a tutorial on mixing your own pastel colors with regular water color? Plus how to mix them without making them too opaque? Pretty please, with macaroons on top?💜💜💜
Do you still like this set as much? I ordered from the Derwent US website back in August with an October shipping date. When I didn’t hear anything, I contacted Derwent, and they now are showing estimated January shipping. I’m debating whether to wait (if they are ever coming), cancel and order from Amazon or Blick, or just cancel completely.
Yes if you like pastel and muted tones. Whether you want to wait is up to you. They layer better than other pastel sets I have. I don't use them too often but I still like them.
Great video! Maybe Derwent didn’t include any browns here to make people more prone to check out their other shades set, which is very skintone and earthy?
Coloring with Alena has the White Nights pastels, and I think they are a nicer range of colors, but probably lift more easily than these. Don't know about the lightfastness of them either.
Those are so pretty! For the splatter background do you just dot splashes of watercolor or do you let it drip onto the page? The macaroon page is darling btw.

Thank you for the review, Lindsay. They are pretty, but it does seem that they have a very limited color range. Seeing your mixed browns is very encouraging. Your paintings are both very pretty. I will probably pass on these (they aren't available here in Canada anyway). If I am to understand you correctly, does it mean that if you use pure pigments and mix them with white guache, it will reduce their lightfastness? I understand it will reduce the transparency, but I am not sure how it would work with a white guache which should also be highly lightfast. :)
Yes, just as if you add lots of water to a paint, a tint is not as lightfast as mass tone. It effects watercolor more as they don't have a durable binder protecting it like oils or acrylics do
White Nights has some newish pastel colors and there are some beautiful pastel browns! I think this is a neat product but the palette is hideous and looks so cheap, that really puts me off all the Derwent pan products.

Another type of water soluble product made by derwent. It is more permanent than watercolour, and acts similar to ink, which is why they called it that.
It is the paper....I tried some intense pans on cheapo XL Canson, and was amazed that after it dried...I could glaze over with watercolours...no lifting. It's not really chalky but they do need to add white to make pastels. You can make your own with watercolor and white. It just depends on what you want.

I love my, Inktense 🎉 I have 72 pencils,24 pan set and I FINALLY bit it and the 24 Graphitint pencils are on the way 🎉 I am looking at pastel shades but I am too frugal 😊 I'm just going to have to add my own White 🤍. Thanks for showing these ❤
