    I liked the part at 08:50 because of the rich in sound. I think in 08:00 part the tascam was to close to water level. Did You do any post edit on sound? I didn't notice much noise.

      Hey Maria, thanks for watching! No i didnt do any post editing on the sounds. Only matching each of the sounds volume

    The LOM's are amazing. I don't have any myself, but maybe one day.
    I always feel like it's a little cruel to compare external mics and the inbuilt ones haha.
    By comparison, the inbuilt mics sound pretty pants. However, by themselves, they sound pretty decent (when not compared alongside external mics).

      Yeah I feel you on that one haha. I guess a factor that I should have mentioned would be the ease of use with the inbuilt ones compared to external. Lots of ways to weigh it up.
      Yes! If you can get your hands on some you won’t regret it

    Thanks, Great film. Have you ever used zoom h2n in field recording ? It would be good to see a film about that.
    Take care

      Thanks again! No I've never owned one. I have the old version of the zoom H1 but only tend to use that with my Clippy Microphones plugged in. The onboard microphones are a bit too noisy

    Thanks for the great video and beautiful recordings! :-)
    Would you still recommend the Portacapture X8? Currently deciding between the Zoom F3, X6 and 8 for a small beginner setup
    Thank you and cheers from Austria! :-)

      Heya! Thanks for watching.
      It depends what microphones you’re going to be using for the zoom F3. It would either be a zoom f3 or X6 for me. Probably leaning more towards the F3 with a nice pair of clippy or Usi pro omnidirectional microphones

    Great stuff mate. Was that a custom cable order from LOM ?

    • @RareFindsSoundDesign
      @RareFindsSoundDesign  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it was. For the USI Pro range there needs to be a little circuit built into the XLR so it powers the microphone on 48v phantom power. I just reached out and asked if they could build one and they were very helpful!

    • @cryptotrader2779
      @cryptotrader2779 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RareFindsSoundDesign Cool. Looks a lot more sturdy cable than the regular one, which is a bit on the flimsy side.

    • @RareFindsSoundDesign
      @RareFindsSoundDesign  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cryptotrader2779 yeah, it's been really handy. It's also double the length (3m instead of 1.5m) so I can have my tripod higher and I can stand a bit further away.
      The main benefit for me is it doesn't get as tangled in my bag!

    I like your backpack! What brand and model is that? Thanks! Great video!

    • @RareFindsSoundDesign
      @RareFindsSoundDesign  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Matej, thanks for watching. The backpack I use is the Evoc CP 26l.
      I've had it for a little while now and it was worth the investment.
      Maybe I'll do a video soon showing it's features

    Sample rate?

    • @RareFindsSoundDesign
      @RareFindsSoundDesign  ปีที่แล้ว

      I record almost all of my sounds at 96khz. Mainly for pitch shifting/time stretching when I'm sound designing

    • @petrub27
      @petrub27 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RareFindsSoundDesign but there's an ultrasonic noise at 96/192 for the tascam. is this not affecting your pitch/ stretch?

    • @RareFindsSoundDesign
      @RareFindsSoundDesign  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@petrub27 Yes I can see it on some of my recordings. I have since returned the Tascam X8 and will be using my zoom F6 and my Tascam DR100 in future.
      It's a shame because it's a great recorder. But the ultrasonic problem is a bit of a pain for when I'm doing more sound design stuff

      @@RareFindsSoundDesign do you 32 bit float? are there benefits by staying 16/24bit?

    • @RareFindsSoundDesign
      @RareFindsSoundDesign  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@noordholland648 Hi Noord. The main benefit for me recording in 24bit would be file size. When i am out recording i am always checking the levels of the device so i don't really need to adjust it later. If i was recording something which really varied in dynamics i would probably record in 32 bit just as a backup incase i peak on my levels. I find a lot of the time that the sensitive USI Pro microphones will peak before the recorder does.
