    Wow check these hateful comments in the section lol.What a hate,I mean you have never read any books about ottomans and never made any objectively search.All you think is ottomans built mosques and made war against "innocent christians". Do you know the ottomans were mercyful (yes,maybe you will be shocked cause of the lies you have learned) and the mercyness made them last for 621 years on christian lands.No christian or any people from other religion were forced to convert to islam.They were equal with turkish citizens and nearly all the palace citizens were from other nations except sultan.If any Turkish pasha made any wrong against people,he would be immidiately fired or if his fault is big,he would get his head off.The respect of ottomans against other people were amazing. An empire in the center of the earth,a powerhouse...Do you know most of the sultans were into art? European artist used to came to palace and show the most beautiful arts of theirs to the sultan. As I know(it would be wrong ) the Turkish Merch from Mozart was inspired from Ottomans (Mozart lived in Austria).But in the late 1800s' the empire changed his ways to the islamisim.Only Muslims were being threatened good and with the french revolution the nations rised and became independent.I don't like last term sultans personally,but you should ask you proffesors for more detailed information,he would tell you the magnificentness ans amazingness of ottoman empire.
    Cheers darlings :)

    OK I've always admired how big the Ottoman Empire became, but this map is overstretching the truth. At 2:07 you can briefly see that the Ottomap includes Iceland and even the Eastern Canadian seaboard(!) in dark red, as though these were integral parts of the Empire. This is obviously untrue. The Ottomans only conducted raids in Iceland but they never actually conquered it and made Iceland part of their territory, never mind Eastern Canada!

    Pl read this history ;
    ( i ). " The main reason for Ottaman success , however , was the development of stable and permanent institutions of government that transformed a tribal polity into a workable state ".
    ( ii ) " The Ottamans utilized all human resources in their emirate and quickly learned skills in bureaucracy and diplomacy ........ They also did not slaughter every Christian in their path ; rather , they encouraged the Christian inhabitants of the countryside and the towns to join them . Islamic law and tradition declared that enemies who surrendered on demand should be treated with tolerance .
    ( iii ). " The Christians of Bithynia were obliged to pay the ' harac ' , or capitation tax , for the privilege of being tolerated , but this was no more burdensome than the taxes they had paid to the Byzantine government , which had neglected their interests . Once they had made the decision to surrender or defect , the Byzantine population resigned to their fate ". " Some Christians converted to Islam upon joining the Ottamans ; however, this was not demanded . Many local Christians even participated in Ottaman raids against Byzantium ". BOOK : Encyclopaedia of the Ottoman Empire . AUTHOR : Gabor Agoston and Bruce Masters . Edition : 2009 page -109 .
    "Existing sources , such as the 25th century Ottoman census records , suggest that the earliest converts to Islam in the Balkans came from the ranks of the Balkan nobility and military elite that could supply the Ottomans with the manpower ............. 1299-1450 Because of strong neigbouring enemies ottoman statemans chose the strongest prince to rule the empire and killed the other claimaints to the throne to not have internal crisis.
    1450-1550 Ottoman sultan mehmed 2 legalised sibling killing law because 90% of the folk did not like his 'heathen' way of thinking and killed his 8 month sibling when he ascended the throne at age 16-19. Thus he secured the throne and passed reforms that organized the cabinet and court, checks and balances. Ended the last aristocrat family, the candarli. Gave more power to enderun educated devsirme.
    1550-1612 Ottoman sultans were not more interested in state affairs. The grand vizirs were given absolute power and they ruled without real opposition since the sultan backed them. The sibling feud was still a problem so only the most capable and eldest went to anatolia to learn statecraft. Others were kept in the palace to be killed when that eldest prince became sultan. This made the empire succession more stable if everything went like it was intended. In 1600s the oldest son was rumored to go against the sultan so the sultan killed him and he became ill and died. A young prince succeeded him who had no knowledge about statecraft. He went against the rules and abolished the ottoman fratricide.
    1612-1800 Ottoman throne was not more stable. Ottoman vizirs were given absolute power but they could be replaced. the janissaries could threaten the ottoman sultan to replace him with a less experienced vizir who would be more loyal to the janissaries and be conservative. Ottoman sultan could refuse but he would then be replaced by one of his brothers laying in a cage for 40 years who would be 90% crazy by then, a very lovely puppet for them. The devsirme system was decaying by influx of muslims in the palace positions which became more corrupt by the day. The ulema ( imams) were exploiting their position by writing their sons name in the book to get more money from the state. They gave ' fatwas' an act to make things legal like killing the sultan, bombarding the statecraft observatory of taqi ad din etc. Janissaries were replacing sultans just to get the extra income and a hefty purse of gold.
    1800-1850s Ottoman selim 3 made a new army who were ordered to keep napoleon out of egypt and they succeeded. When the janissaries heard that they were going to be replaced by that new army they killed the sultan and replaced him with mahmud. Mahmud wanted to take revenge and when the jansissaries knew that he also wanted to abolish them they went to the palace but mahmud killed the last claimaint to the throne, his brother and sent his body to them. Janissaries seeing that there was no other claimaint they returned to their barracks. Other day they were bombarded and killed and so the janissary corps was abolished. The ottomans were reorganizing since there was no more opposition. Ottoman sultan sent turks to europe to learn from them. The army of selim 3 went to egypt and they formed a very strong power there. They even challenged the ottoman state, conquering till adana/ karaman state. Seeing this new power Great britain, russia,prussia, france, austria helped the ottomans and so the ottomans survived another time.
    1850s-1922 The turks came back with the nationalist ideas. Only turks were given important roles not the arabs kurds anymore so the loyalty was shaken from other parts of the empire. The turkish nationalist saw their belief more important than the sultan and they also became a problem for the ottoman sultans. They saw themself more important than the other ethnicities which made rebellions inevitable and so the multicultural empire collapsed very fast.

    "The Ottamans set such a good example as pacific conquerors that they won the confidence of many former Byzantine subjects . For example , when Nicaea fell , Orhan allowed all who wanted to leave the city to depart freely , taking with them their holy relics , but few availed themselves of the chance . No reprisals were taken against those who had resisted , and the city was left to manage its internal affairs under its own municipal government . BOOK : Encyclopaedia of the Ottoman Empire . It was one of the largest and longest-lived empires in history, and it represented one of the greatest civilizations of the modern period. Its territories, at its height, included Anatolia (part of present-day Turkey), the Middle East, parts of East and North Africa, and southeastern Europe, comprising a total area of more than 22 million square kilometers (about 8.5 million square miles)."

    While not legally Rome, the Ottomans were the closest thing Eurasia had to a “Rome-like” entity in the early-modern and industrial period; a multiethnic, Mediterranean-centric empire, based in one of Rome’s old capitals, with a head of state calling themself “Caesar of the Romans.”

      @JuliaDM  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Informacje o flagach są tu :
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_national_flags
      A jeśli chcesz znaleźć jakieś sprzed 1700 (bo do tego roku wstecz tam są), to możesz wpisać w google ,,flag of...'' i na wikipedii są nieraz wszystkie historyczne flagi państwa, lub jak nie ma to ,,Coat of arms of...'' i tam też są nieraz flagi.
      Pamiętaj, aby szukać na angielskiej, niemieckiej czy franzuskiej wikipedii, lub w języku państwa którego flagi szukasz.

      W historii Polski (zapewne chodzi o lata 1569-1795) użyłem wprawdzie jednej flagi, a herby we wnętrzu niej były zmieniane co króla/dynastię, gdyż był to ich rodowy herb, który leżał właśnie w środku flagi (na najbardziej znanej wersji jest herb Wazów). Herby znajdziesz tu :
