I'm not in college but always on a budget. I would purchase suave shampoo, olive oil, satiin bonnet, spray bottle and Goody ponytail holder.

Loved this video, thanks! I always was afraid to get locs because the maintenance was too expensive. I finally went for it, and am 1 month locd. I plan to see my loctician until I'm locd, and then go solo. Thanks for letting me know maintenance is doable on a budget.

You're so welcome!!! It is completely doable ! Hopefully your loctician gives you some maintenance tips.

“I would assume that if I’m in college and I have sisterlocks, I’m maintaining my own locs.” Literally hearing that while I’m in the middle of interlocking my hair after leaving it alone the whole semester. Also had a cheap spray bottle in my Amazon cart for Christmas. On top of that, had recently stole some of my mom’s olive oil and put it in an old Karen’s Body Beautiful oil bottle 🤣
Thank you for the recommendations, especially breaking out the math (I appreciate numbers as an engineering student). I definitely think that 80 oz shampoo estimate is spot on for someone with a decent amount of hair who does two shampoos each wash. I really only got 39 oz of product to last me ‘til next Black Friday, and after two washes, I realized quickly that I’ll only make it 6 months if I’m lucky and don’t dilute the shampoos. My last shampoo didn’t have a clear bottle so it was hard to gauge how much product I ran through.
I may give in and try out the Carol’s Daughter shampoo when I run out. Did you see that they have a rose water version now? Just saw it on Amazon!
I really liked this theme, so cute ☺️
Sorry for the long comments, I know I can ramble, and I just resonated with this video so much lol. Thank you so much!

LOL I love reading your comments! You were one of the people that inspired this video! I did not see the rose water version, but I'm almost out of the original, so I am for sure going to buy one. I'm one of the few people who actually like rose scented items. I also saw that you tagged me in the conditioner, I am considering trying it. I've never used a wash out conditioner, but since the consistency is a gel and not a cream, I'm thinking it may work well =)

Oh yeah this is definitely doable, especially if you’re taking smart advantage of deals - like Target right now has $10 off $30 purchase in beauty, so I used it to get the wash day shampoo and a couple other things. Then I had rewards $ on my red card and a 10% off target circle offer too? ✔️✔️ 😂😂
For oils I encourage people to shop around for the ones they use. I like Piping Rock for a bunch of things and they often have 🔥 sales/deals.
Mountain Rose Herbs too although not as many deals lol

I still have at least 2 more years in school, and I plan on locing within the next year (likely earlier) so I'm DEFINITELY saving this video.
Thanks for the recommendations, in love with you and your content :)

I just spent the last two day binge watching your videos. I will be starting my diy micro loc journey in two weeks and I am so excited. Your videos have been so helpful and informative as I have been doing my research. Now I am in a family full of loc beauties but I will be the only one with micro locs. We have traditional, braid, small and medium twist locs. All were started out diy.

I am so glad you are enjoying the content! Good luck on starting your journey! My mom has locs, and others in my family have had locs as well, including my little sister. I am also the only one with micro locs. There are definitely lots of similarities in loc care, but some major differences too.

I have never had an affinity for shampoo. I would use whatever is at dollar tree. So suave for me. I use spray glycerin based leave ins . Sometimes they are diy. Castor oil. I would say my annual budget is about 35-50 dollars. That may change as time goes on.

Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle shampoo is $3.99 in store price (but online $13 online). It is my go to shampoo, leaves my hair feeling light and clean. Very light smell when washed. I rarely use oils in my hair, I would like to start though.

I have ! I am considering buying it because it is a gel formula. I am somewhat apprehensive though, because I do not use conditioner. I did recently just buy the rose water version of the shampoo that they just came out with. I'm super excited to try it.
