I completely agree with your review! I also just tested the same pack in a trip to Thailand. It worked great however I didn’t wear the backpack as much as I thought I would have (maybe because it’s such a small bag??). I did however discover a little “hack’. The suspended space between the hard case/handle part and the backpack straps has a little cubby perfect to stash dirty clothes or a small beach bag or light jacket. I did have a little struggle getting sorted out with the packing cubes and configuration but once I got it, it worked out well (one long cube and a smaller regular one). Packed little items in all of the odd spaces and it worked. Happy travels and keep up the great videos :)
I've been waiting for this review. I bought my 40L Eagle Creek Companion last year after watching all of your videos with it. I love it too but I must say that at 66 yrs old I sometimes found it a pain and would have preferred a rolling suitcase; especially when checking in at airport and the lines were LONG. It got tiring at the end of my 2 month travels. I am about to leave again next week for another 2 months. This time to Taiwan & Japan and then cruising home for 14 days instead of flying home and was seriously thinking about getting a rolling suitcase instead. I appreciate your honestly in this review. Maybe I'll buy that suitcase when I'm in Asia. One with 4 wheels that spin 360 but my 40L Eagle Creek will be probably best for my 2 month trip to Africa in the Fall.
Yess!! Been waiting for this video!! I bought the same suitcase before a holiday a few years ago but immediately foresaw the problems you mentioned, i struggled especially with having to zip the straps away to wheel it and vice versa, so i ended up returning it the next day lol! But i wish there was a perfect alternative, sometimes when running for a train or something you don't want to be dragging a suitcase behind you, especially on uneven/damaged/gravelly floor, you just want to pick up your stuff sling it on and sprint. Hopefully a perfect suitcase/backpack combo comes out soon. Please can you do a video on the backpack you carried whilst camping in peru on the way to macchu picchu? :)
Hi Christie :) thanks for your insights 😊. I remember you mentioned it in the packing video, but there’s the Tropicfeel 40L suitcase/backpack that that apparently has a more regular shape and gives you the possibility to attach your rucksack onto the handle :) . Plus, the transition from suitcase to backpack seems to be easier and faster (for the times you need to climb only a few steps)😊. Hope my suggestion was useful for you :)
we just bought a 40L osprey and we're really impressed with the quality of it. weight is a big consideration for us, so we thought that would be a major downside of your backpack. being able to wheel it places would be a nice benefit though.
I realized a suitcase is better after my 1st solo trip. I have a suitcase that has very small straps and in around 10 solo trips i used them twice, when moving with a scooter to another location. Now i just put the suitcase between my legs upside down and newer bother with straps
I've been traveling with wheeled backpacks from Osprey for many years. (Like you, I rarely wear it as a backpack😄) The most important thing is the double-bar handle, so that you can put your little backpack on it. That's why I use the Osprey Sojourn 60 liters... The seize is also perfect. Your South America trip was really great to watch! Thanks!
You mentioned that you hardly used this as a backpack in south america… how were the streets/sidewalks there? I would buy this for a thailand trip and im a little concerned about the wheel clearance on less than perfect surfaces…. Thanks!
I bought the bag also. It was actually hard to find in California and it was $300🥴. But for the most part I do like the backpack . I’ll deff be using it for a long time
Thank you for your honest review. Every other Osprey review is “perfect”. I had this backpack and need to sell it brand new because I wasn’t 100% satisfied. Because of the weird shape inside that decreases the capacity. No one talks about it except you. Every review should have honest pros and cons like this one. 😇
That's a nice one. Too bad about the other backpack not fitting properly to wheel it around. Are you going to put any in your solo shop? Perhaps design the perfect backpack? I'm looking forward to your next adventure!
Some big cons. My goal is a wheeled bag for easy overhead so better look for something a bit smaller. Pro's I love the big wheels of Osprey. Thank you for this excellent review.
Hello, I am on the fence about a rolling backpack? I will be on a train fairly often and for that I like having a backpack, but that could be because that is what I am used too? Maybe I just need a carry on luggage? My backpack got really heavy in Italy and I definitely wanted wheels at the end! Seems like only using the backpack functions for 10% is not worth the loss of space? Thanks for the videos and insights!
Great info, thank you! I have been considering this bag but the space inside seems minimal! I am considering the Osprey Daylite Wheeled Duffel 40 instead which has some good reviews online :)
Hi Christianne. I have been searching for the perfect rolling backpack since I like to roll about 90% of the time. I ended up finding the Osprey Daylite Carry-On Wheeled Duffel 40. It has 2 poles and the duffel handles are the backpack straps. It is not as robust of a backpack setup as the farpoint but is much easier to pack and has two poles and is lighter. Best wishes.
No video shows what do you do you the back panel when you transform it in backpack. Do you put it away completely. Does it clips somewhere. Every video skips this part 😅
This came in clutch! I am looking for the best of both worlds for my 6 month trip as well. Looking back on your time in Oaxaca, would you have opted for a backpack or suitcase?
What great timing! I've just come back from a short trip to South Africa and I used this bag for the first time. Overall I really liked it! Very robust and I thought I had enough room. But it'll be interesting to see how I feel about it after my long trip this Summer. Thank you again for a great video!
How heavy is your bag? I'm researching for an upcoming carry-on only trip and finding the weight restrictions more tricky to work around than dimensions.
Great review! I can't understand why eagle creek stopped making the global companion I've tried contacting them several times but...still don't have one. It has so many rave reviews and plain disappointment trying to find one!
Hi Christianne :) your videos really inspire me to go on another solo trip. Especially the ones about turkey but the fear of not meeting other solo travelers around my age of 19 gets up again.😅 Last year i was interrailling central europe and since turkey is not such a common destination, especially the coast, i am wondering did you meet many solo travelers on your trip?🤔
Great video! I found this very informative, but are you going to be rebranding into "Wheely Bananas"? All jokes aside, I really appreciate your detailed review and analysis
So so true that the more you travel, the more you realise that the times you actually have to backpack instead of wheel are few and far between. Wheeled backpacks are the way to go!
Loving your videos and enthusiasm! Can you direct me to your video on your Eagel Creek global companion 40 litres? I've had a look on line and can't find them in stock...do you know if they are still available? Thanks for reading this x
i always love your backpack reviews! can you possibly please get a Cotopaxi backpack too hahaha Alpaca 35L one with fancy schmancy colors and opens like a suitcase too! hope your open to get one!
Well thers a point where you ask why not wheels if its still small and officiant product . I did that with a smaller 2 wheels suitcase i found on the street... It was more officiant than a backpack in a way..... And can save you some good energy for exploring than the carrying ..
So far Ive been traveling bit over seven months non stop, with no end date in sight. Only carrying the Eagle Creak Global Companion 40L, seen the sweating heats of Thailand and the freezing colds of Norway. The bag manages to carry absolutely everything you could need, its a shame that they had discontinued it. - @Brocks_Adventures
I know you have multiple backpacks but would you reccomend this as someone’s only travel backpack? Or is there something else you think would be better!
no way! If you want a wheeled suitcase go for something hard that can get beaten up, opens clamshell and has 8 wheels!! The wheels make all the difference when manoeuvring over any road/path
@@txdave yess that one's gorgeous! But if you're gonna go for a backpack something like the Fairview trek 50 would be better as it has better pockets and back support ;)
Hey, currently travelling around South America, just wondered from what country you sent your parcel home? From Colombia it seems to be hundreds of pounds for quite a small package to the U.K. 😬 Love your videos, I use them as a guide for my next destination 🎒 👍
This bag does look great! I think the zipper placement makes sense instead of a clamshell style, because otherwise, dirt would've gotten into the bag when you roll it across the ground, unless the zippers are heavy-duty like a suitcase'?
Thank you for the beautiful videos. I have a question. Do you advise me to travel to Tejo Cigalpa, the capital of Honduras? Is Honduras a safe country, and likewise El Salvador? Is it a safe country or not? Do you advise me to travel to these countries? Can I travel by bus from San Salvador to Honduras and Guatemala? Thank you.

I’m glad you are back. The vlogs were amazing. So jealous! Have booked Mexico for next year, we want to do Sayulita, Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara.

How did the patagonia foldable backpack hold up? Did you use it much?
YES pretty much everyday I used it. I love it and it’s my fave foldable backpack that I’ve had!
Christine - have you ever had a yellow fever vaccine for South America? I’m really torn if I should get one - the side effect warning was worrying.

You should try Kipling's Darcey, its 55x35x20.5 and holds loads, 4 tough wheels, extendable trolley handle. I have one and would definitely recommend.
Have you tried the surfanic suitcase for backbacking, I've heard they are good.
