    My friend used a ar80 gears in his 50 and then put the kit on top it was a real beast for a little 50 this was back in 1988 the extra gear made all the difference well impressed that these little bikes are still about

      Yep - that extra gear from the 80 helps. Glad I did the mod.

    OMG I had an AR 50 with a 93cc big bore kit in the early 90's. Strange thing is it did not go as well as my AR 80 with just an All Speed exhaust upgrade. That revved to 14k rpm on the clock. Man I wish I still had them☹️

    • @AutoBeta2T
      @AutoBeta2T  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool - I loved my first AR 50 too. I got it in 1993 when I was 16 to replace a Honda MT5. The AR was so good and when the 93 kit was put on it'd go about 65-70mph depending on wind and slope as I remember... Interesting about you saying the std 80 went better -maybe I need to have a look at trying a 80 barrel? If you fancy another there are still plenty about if you keep an eye out on eBay or the AROG owners group on Facebook.

      14k rpm??? My 89 AR50 would only rev to 7k but only when going downhill, it would pull about 6500 rpm on the flat.
      I later learned that the 50 had a 6th gear but it was blocked off via the shift drum, don't know if that was true or not, the video suggests not.
      I guess I'm lucky mine was so restricted and slow, it got me to and from work, 35 miles a day for 2 years without breaking down, I didn't even have to put a piston in it!
      I actually can't remember what happened to it, I checked the DVLA website recently - its still registered in my name!

    • @AutoBeta2T
      @AutoBeta2T  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like a good work horse you had there! I wonder where it is?
      I did the 6 speed conversion on mine. It was fairly easy once I'd got hold of the parts (one gear was from the USA).
      I've found that the standard ignition is very restrictive on rpm but the standard port heights do the too.

      @@Subjectno23 The clocks indicated around 14k I doubt it was anything close to that but the powerband was awesome. And yes they were very reliable and well engineered. I saw one a few years ago and couldn't believe how tiny they are compared to my memory.

    Wow that's a massive blast from my childhood(16yrs in '94 👍, i wish I could send you a picture of my ar50 it was an almost standard looking cylinder bore.. maybe skimbed once or twice.. had a coke can ar80 micron exhaust (really small). Plus some racing reed valves can't remember the make, it was also ported (none professionally but wow) with a K&N air filter/ jetted accordingly over tests, and multiple gears bought/ sprockets to get to where it would do 60mph at 8500rpm up hill and able to climb rpm, and around 65-70mph at 9000rpm on flat roads. No light fairing either, all my friends back then had Suzuki ts50's with urtizer 90cc bigbore kits( spelt wrong) and were fast but the ar50 of mine was better all round low torque/top speed and all through the range where the Suzuki was at high rpm only or at least for those particular bikes and setups.
    I also owed a ar80 at the same time and used to just change all the plastics and petrol tank over so the 80 appeared to be my 50🤣 the 80cc did around 60mph and struggled at hills until I put the ar80 micron exhaust on for my 50cc and changed some Jett's and sprocket's then 85mph, but was sold soon after.
    My ar50 got stolen in late 94 which broke my heart and young world ☹️ I can laugh now finally 🤣😭😭

      Hi Wayne - pleased it's bringing back some happy memories 🙂
      Sounds like a flier you had and a shame it got nicked!
      I think mine did about 65 mph as a 93 and did about 50 mph on a good day as a 50cc. It had the big can Micron exhaust and I will say I like the look of the small can one... Saw one for sale the other day for £500!

    I had an AR50 back in 1992, it was gutless but I loved that little bike, always thought they looked good as far as mopeds go. Also had the AR 80 but never got that on the road.

    I had one of these in 1996 (white J plate) found out my dads friend raced one and I took mine to him. He ported the exhaust port, ported the intake manifold, did something with the slider in the carb, and gave me an old Micron he had laying about. Already had a 80 rear sprocket……did 55mph after a couple hours tinkering. Happy days.

    That was one of my AR50's I lent them. I've still got the engine and pipe etc. I'll be putting it back in a bike shortly with a new digital ignition to see what we can get out of it. They would of reached 100mph but they didn't change the sprockets I left on it. They ordered different sprockets, but then the rider went off to university and the airfield was booked up, so it came to a premature end. 🙄
    You will need longer barrel studs too, the 50 ones are too short for the autisa. 👍🏻

    • @AutoBeta2T
      @AutoBeta2T  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool - maybe you will get to 100 mph before me 🙂. Gearing is certainly one of the keys to getting there as the powerband is quite tight. I'll be interested to run the data through a program I use to assess power and gearing etc.
      Yes it was a shame it never quite got done but it was still a great series of articles and hopefully it may still be attained.
      Good shout on the studs. Are AR 80 studs required or is it something specific to the Autisa kits?

      @@AutoBeta2T Me and my mates have highly tuned road going AR's they are rapid but reliable. We run 24mm carbs, as did the practical sportsbike one. Don't think 21mm will be big enough.
      We run digital programmable ignitions and hand build exhausts made by a friend Firepower Engineering. I supply a lot of AR parts as well as restore them. I have the longer studs on eBay, they are no longer available from Kawasaki. It made me smile when I watched your video, as my business name is on the side of the bike in the magazine and I seen you open the page where me and my Dad were lifting the bike up. 😊👍🏻
      I will have magazine you are missing somewhere. I run an AR50/80 group on Facebook called AROG for short, I started putting the sportsbike articles on there for people to follow. 👍🏻
      You will need plenty of horses and a long straight to top 100mph. 👍🏻

      @@holmetech1199 cool - I was thinking 21mm may struggle. I know 50cc race bikes can get about 20 ish hp with one and the BDK figures as I remember indicate about 18 hp. I think a good 25 hp is required which hopefully I can get to. There's certainly scope for more blowdown STA on the BDK tune and I have a couple of other ideas to try. Should be fun 🙂

    The AR50 restricted UK model had a 14mm carb... Also the ignition timing was fixed to 14degeees advance but the unrestricted one and the 80 were 20 degrees ... So you may need to modify the stator plate it use the AR80 one if you can get it.
    You may have already sussed this all out of course..
    Also I would be tempted to nicasil plate the bore.

    • @AutoBeta2T
      @AutoBeta2T  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Trevor - thanks for the comment.
      I've put on a Ignitec ignition since this video (there's a vid for it on the channel) which made a big difference and also a 28mm carb and bigger reeds. I'm just in the process of building the first pipe :)
      Hope you enjoy the rest of the videos.
      I like the idea of nicasil. Probably a job for when I have all of the porting finished. I have toyed with the idea of an ally sleeve for the barrel which would be plated.

      @@yogiguitar1 Hi, Yes I recon cooling will be an issue particularly as I'll be at wide open throttle for some time trying to get to 100 mph. My plan is to try and use the fueling to keep it cool as best I can but time will tell if it can be done. Methanol is an option to help run cooler but i'm trying to do it on pump petrol. I have seen cylinder head water cooling on older air cooled yam RD so it is an option I could consider if I can't control the heat.
