I started watching this channel when you bought the church. I can't imagine anything more logical than to sell this building and take advantage of the real estate market at the moment. Do not for one second feel bad about selling the church. Not having this building be your liability is a very good thing!
Matt, I am 80 and live in New Zealand. For my sins, I professionaly take people who have over extended their debts, and try to help them back to dry land. Most of them would say, I gave it my best shot," or "It seemed like a good idea at the time". BUT the project has swallowed their capital, their time, their pride, and sometimes even their lives. If only they had the courage to do what you have just done. World wide, the economy is in the toilet, and may yet even go lower. You and your wife have made a decision. It is the best decision for you, and that is what matters. I will continue to watch in awe as you move through your life and your projects. I am glad that the two of you have made a decision which will turn out to your very best interests. Thanks for the video, I always love watching, and hoping for you.
Every so often I do a "project purge" where I just accept the fact that certain projects are either too much to take on to do properly, or I've lost interest in it and decide to let them go. It lets you focus and give the needed time on the things you really care about. Glad you still made out on top!
Wow, so many times I have bought electronics on eBay to do a project from someone who never got around to it and I end up the same, perhaps its the energy on the item? I will try revisiting projects with a fresh approach, thanks for waking me up to this!
No need to apologize Matt. When one door closes, another opens. You and your wife have your own home to build and that is going to occupy your mind and skill set! ❤️

Like with many other viewers, this series was the first thing I watched on your channel! It certainly would have been nice to see the church get renovated completely. It was just nice seeing you tackle the problems yourself! But at the same time I have been wondering many times if it will make sense to renovate at this point in time ( due to the high prices). All I can say is: This project might end here today, but don't beat yourself up about it and just go full steam ahead with any of your other projects. I'm certain it will turn out great no matter what you will focus on instead!

I can't speak for everyone, but I'de much rather see the content you're doing up at the farm. You've got the new shop coming in, the maintenance and repair of all the old and newly acquired equipment. The clearing for the new house. And you still have jobs you have to go out and do. Were in mid spring, and I'm sure that the shop will be done by the fall. Can't wait to see it come together... It was a wise business decision to sell it. I agree, it would have been fun to see it finished, but what good is it, if you dig yourself into a hole. I am waiitng to see how the shop build goes.

This was the building project I discovered this channel in. Knowing when to call it quits on a project isn't always an easy thing to do. But life comes with change and those who embrace it succeed.
I don’t make comments often but Matt, I really appreciate the fact that you are picking and choosing your project as you need to. Somebody else who’s love and passion is carpentry and all those other woodworking skills will enjoy this. Way to go!
Matt, I just read most of these comments from your fan club. You are getting GREAT reviews. You have a lion's heart in a gentle soul. Good call, Matt. Personally, I feel much, much better that this project is complete and soon to be gone.
Looks like a sensible decision to me. People forget that you've got to make a living along the way and you have to be realistic about the economics. Good call Sir, looking forward to seeing more of your other projects.
Hey matt, I for one am happy you got that building sold since its no longer economically feasible to convert it to housing. And the stress relief of not having to worry about it anymore is worth something too! Gotta do what you gotta do!!
I've caught up on this series while experiencing freezing temps this weekend. I've really enjoyed. I don't blame you at all for selling it and hopefully getting a decent profit from it. I really feel like a rental is going to be a huge headache after awhile in the future. I think you just unloaded a huge pain
The sign here is you knew when to buy and you knew when to sell. I’m happy you did exactly what you needed to do. Good thing is you have more time for other projects. I wish you well in all your projects and thank you for sharing them with us.
Plus, he saved a building from total collapse, but that building needs so so so much work. My guess is it will be bulldozed and a regular apartment put up.
I found your channel because of the church project, but I’ve discovered so much more. It would have been cool to see the project completed, but there is enough other cool stuff to stay.
Sunk cost makes it hard to make these decisions-hell, sometimes it makes it impossible to make them. If you got a good offer, and you don't have the time to treat the old girl right, you're doing the right thing. Thanks for the update.
I was thinking about your church the other day. Sad to see it go, but you have to take it as a business decision not an emotional one. I, for one, think you made the right decision and as usual you have managed to come out on top. Hopefully we will be able to see it become something special.
This was the video series I started on. Good decision to make. Would be nice to see what the new owners do with it. Perhaps this will accelerate the shop project build if mother nature will cooperate and Christina doesn't get ya. Keep up the good work Matt.
Matt you're a working man with a family and business to take care of, and nobody can deny you made the right decision to sell! Besides, your videos are just damn fun to watch. Now, back to your new shop, those Autocars.., and such! Allan in Wichita ( for awhile).
Really appreciate the update! I recently made a similar decision to not continue bleeding funds on a project, and let the next person get to the finish line instead. Such a relief, and lovely to have funds cleared up for the next venture! You're doing great, and making the decisions that make best sense for you. I dig it.
I think you are doing the right thing. You've thought the situation out and, in my humble opinion, are doing the right thing. Plus the timing couldn't be better.
50K is gona go a long way in the shop, way to go Brother! First off I'm buying you a 2-post 20K lift, then a big compressor then you get a "Big Ass Fan" for the ceiling, and maybe a small CNC plasma burn table. You know how we always need to make parts, this is gona help. We'll have so much fun now!
At least this way there is some closure to us as well and we don't need to keep wondering. I respect your decision and if you say it's the right one, it's not my place to argue otherwise. Thanks for your energy and dedication on your projects and videos!
No sweat, Matt! We watched some great and interesting videos of your work ethic and abilities. If you made a little money and can use that towards your shop or new home, all the better! Sometimes you gotta roll with the punches. In this case, I think you were right on track and with the improvements you made and that you were able to make the building viable again makes it work out for everyone! Congratulations!
Good decision Matt, no matter what time you'd plan to renovate the building, it would in reality take at least double that! Thanks for the previous videos on the Church, 👍👍 Johnny, Cork Ireland.
The thing that always keeps me here is how humble you are. I think that goes for most of us. You're real and you let that show in your videos. It's safe to say a lot of us have "bitten off more than we can chew", "seemed like a great idea" or "life happens". It's all good Matt. We get ya buddy. It's ok to let projects go and move on. That's not failure. That's growth.
This building was the reason I started watching this channel and when you started collecting old iron on wheels the channel really got interesting, now I really look forward to every show, thanks for sharing. Cheers from Jacksonville Florida 🌞
Congrats on the sale Matt! Sounds like a well-made decision and we viewers will certainly be kept entertained with all of your other projects. Wishing you continued success in reaching your goals!
Like to say thank you Matt . So many times we start to think of ways to make our lives better for our families. That we get overwhelmed with everything. I can understand how with everything that you have going own I didn't see how you would be able to finish the renovations to the apartment's. I used to build house s. So I understand why you decide to sell when you did you are a very smart man. Believe in your self and your family. Can't wait for your next videos. Keep up the great videos.
Glad to see that you got a return for your hard work and investment. I think you have enough fun projects to keep you (and the channel) busy. Thanks for the update!
This is truly a sad update. The church renovation project was how i found your channel and i really enjoyed the series. Well, it wasnt meant to be. Good luck to you and your wife.
The church renovation was way down my list of projects you are working on. Your new shop is at the top. Your patience, and mechanical talents always amaze me.
I have just "binge watched" all 19 episodes about the abandoned church. Thoroughly enjoyed the project and the way you tackled "unfamiliar" working methods. Shame it came to an end prematurely, but totally understandable. I am a cabinet maker in the UK and as you said, the timber prices have gone through the roof (no pun intended). Oh well, it's back to watching you squirt ether into any engine that doesn't fire up ["contact, pssst"!] PS: Are you going to let the the wife loose on a few old diesel engines, now that she can operate the bucket swinger? lol! Keep doing what you're doing!
Good call selling it! More resources for the Unit dragline. :) If it were me I'd say the best thing to happen to the church is to knock it all down and put a new building there. Messed up foundations are a liability, especially when you're fixing it yourself and have nobody to point fingers at.
Keyboard experts that says it all an I love your channel but I wouldn’t do it for twice the money I’m just glad there’s people like you that can handle putting your life up for public scrutiny. Keep bringing dead machines back to a useful life.
It’s alright Chief, times are hard on everyone with this pesky pandemic. Plans do change and you do what’s best for you. Still rooting for your other projects especially with the shop coming along now
In my book, you do what you have to do. I get it, I’ve been there, and some times things just flat change, and I enjoyed that series. Thanks for the update Mat.
Matt I certainly understand that you did not complete your your desired project, but you certainly completed several upgrades overall to the church. You are the reason that the church property will move into a community improvement instead of a demolition and I certainly learned allot about structural support and property drainage. Glad you were able to share your experience yet get out from under this project with all the improvements and not totally lose your Butt!!!
I’m feeling ya on those building materials costs. We are remodeling our bathroom and I went to buy two sheets of 1/2” CDX and they were 66 bucks apiece. Went home with 3/8” instead. I couldn’t imagine the cost of a project like this one. You were smart to sell while you could.
We replaced a 6' X 6' window in a building and between ordering, only limited manufacturers make it, over an 18month period the cost went up 5 fold. And that was without the charges to fit it, which included a crane to the 4th floor, 4 fitters and a Cherry picker. It started of at £2k and ended up to £10k.
First time to see this project. It is difficult enough to “flip” houses but the church is a BIG undertaking. So glad you were able to get out from under it. Yes, stick to your goals, though it may hurt a bit.
The church was what got me subscribed, but that being said, I'm glad you got clear of it without losing out. Great channel, great content, that building was only a little part of it.
Congratulations, difficult decision i am sure but certainly the right one with the huge rise in cost of building materials and the many projects you have on the go...take care, stay safe and thanks for sharing.
Complete respect to your decision, Mr. Creek! I was glad to have followed the series myself, and every project doesn't need to have a happy ending! Besides, this ending was happy enough.
Now this is good timing, I was going to ask about it. I’m not disappointed but just hoping they can save it in the future. If not, hey you guys tried real hard.
Great update. You just have to know when to move away from things when circumstances change. I'd have loved to see the church renovated, but I also want to see the new shop, the autocar, the dragline, the scissors lifts, the 977, the ... You see where I'm going :)
Matt, I’m happy for you and your wife! You both put a lot of time into the church, and you have made a good business decision. It was fun to watch you problem solve. Plus you probably saved the church from demolition. Onwards to the next project!!

I have to say the church project was one of my favorites, but that’s because I love reno projects and worked in construction for many years.
Agreed!
me too
10:58 the sound of the cups falling and then "sold" priceless comedic expression and timing all round👍
I had been wondering what was going on with the church. You had put so much effort into getting the place cleaned up and fixing the failing walls.
Sunk cost makes it hard to make these decisions-hell, sometimes it makes it impossible to make them. If you got a good offer, and you don't have the time to treat the old girl right, you're doing the right thing. Thanks for the update.
You made the right choice. Stuff happens and things change. Best of luck.
Glad to know you have made a sound decision on the abandoned church. Good luck to you!
At least this way there is some closure to us as well and we don't need to keep wondering.
I respect your decision and if you say it's the right one, it's not my place to argue otherwise. Thanks for your energy and dedication on your projects and videos!
You did what makes sense for your wife and yourself. Good for you!
Thanks for the previous videos on the Church, 👍👍
Johnny, Cork Ireland.
Excellent. Well stated
Most get upset because he seems to never get one project done and will go out and buy another project that needs repairs to.
This building was the reason I started watching this channel and when you started collecting old iron on wheels the channel really got interesting, now I really look forward to every show, thanks for sharing. Cheers from Jacksonville Florida 🌞
I’ve enjoyed the whole series, but I think you and your wife made the logical decision. I look forward too following more of your projects!
Sounds like it will give you a chunk of change to help with the shop build. congrats 👍🔥🇺🇲
The Church was still very entertaining content. I admire the gumption you had to buy it in the first place. Anyways, can't wait to see what's next!
I know. It's hard to walk away from a project especially when you've invested in it.
So, good on ya! I hope the closing goes smoothly.
Well Matt, sounds like you made a good decision. Life has a way of throwing curves for us. Glad that you came out ahead on this. Thanks for sharing.
Keyboard experts that says it all an I love your channel but I wouldn’t do it for twice the money I’m just glad there’s people like you that can handle putting your life up for public scrutiny. Keep bringing dead machines back to a useful life.
as the saying goes..."you have to know when to hold them and when to fold them" ! You did the right thing. Congratulations !
I’m very happy for you and your wife Matt. The housing market is Hot now and I’m pretty sure you can use the money in other projects!!! Keep at it!!!
DC, business is business, everything is for sale at the right price. Well done you😎😎😎
It’s alright Chief, times are hard on everyone with this pesky pandemic.
@@everestyeti och!
Great channel, great content, that building was only a little part of it.
...MOVING ON IS GOOD, KEEP SAFE..
Congratulations, difficult decision i am sure but certainly the right one with the huge rise in cost of building materials and the many projects you have on the go...take care, stay safe and thanks for sharing.
The church is how I found your channel. Love your channel❤️
Good decision. Glad you made money on it. Enjoyed watching the series.
Complete respect to your decision, Mr. Creek! I was glad to have followed the series myself, and every project doesn't need to have a happy ending! Besides, this ending was happy enough.
It’s clear the scope of work is daunting- good decision !
Hahaha I just binge watched that series!!! Talk about an anticlimax, but hey, here’s to more machine action! Well done Matt.
I love that church you putting in that new wall was the first time I watched you and I have loved your channel ever since !! Keep up the great work 🙂🔧
Matt, I’m happy for you and your wife! You both put a lot of time into the church, and you have made a good business decision. It was fun to watch you problem solve. Plus you probably saved the church from demolition. Onwards to the next project!!
I found Diesel Creek because of the abandoned church project, I’ve been waiting for an update - but enjoyed all your other videos as well. You did a smart decision- and I will still follow Diesel creek 🤗👍🏼
Matt, you and the Mrs. are smart people. It is sometimes smartest to realize you need to pivot. I know for me, I'm looking forward to however things unfold for Diesel Creek.
I have to say the church project was one of my favorites, but that’s because I love reno projects and worked in construction for many years. It needs to be your passion and skill set to tackle a big project like this or you are better off moving on. I totally understand your decision and appreciate the update!
