I really resonated with this from the very beginning of the video, and you putbit very empathetically. I specifically searched for this video because i recognise that im being very critical of my partner but i dont know how to stop it. You are straight to the point and not one word in this video is wasted. Thank u so much, liked and subscribed. I will save it to watch when i am feeling the urge to criticise come up again
I really needed this.. There's a thousand videos on dealing with a critical person.. not very many about how to stop criticizing yourself. As a highly conscientious person... I find myself criticizing a LOT. I was trained to do it in school, and it exacerbated that aspect of my personality. Now i'm terrified i'm going to affect my 3 month old child.. and my husband.. I need to nip it in the bud NOW before it's too late.
I criticize waaaaaaay too much, way too hyperbolically, and yes I have lost quite a few relationships due to it, not just romantic. I taught myself how to think critically, but never asked how that would make someone feel
Hi, thank you so much for your video... i really dont like my overly critisizing side and everytime i say something i immeadiatley feel bad for it afterwards but i still do it... i will try the two things you recommended and hopefully it‘ll work if im being more mindful . THANK YOU! I really needed to hear it
Excellent video I struggle with critiquing others and don’t know how to help others without suggesting to make changes to their negative behavior . I will start with a criticism diet thanks !
I really appreciate this video. It’s such simple and obvious advice but needed to be stated and heard. Thank you so much. I’m going to implement this in my life.
Hi Stacy! Just wanted to say this is the best advice I've heard on this topic, bar none!!! I think more people could benefit from this advice. Bit sized content popularity, aka TH-cam shorts, is skyrocketing thanks to Tik Tok. I strongly believe if you clip this video into a couple TH-cam shorts (one that includes the advice of Going on a Criticism Diet and Replace Criticism with Praise) it will go viral 🥰🤗
But I do hope that after the pandemic, we can all get back to giving each other the good service we've come to expect. Let's all try to improve a little. I'll do my part too.
I came across this video at a time when I needed to hear this. Everyday all I hear from my wife is constant criticalness and criticism of everything I'm bad at. Enjoying that was said is 100 percent true and thank you for sharing this for us to see. I know that I cannot control what my wife and others do, I can control how I respond and what I say. I vow that I will do my part to end criticism, I hope my wife will do her part although I fully know that I cannot control how she reacts.
I'm gonna go ahead and guess that part of the solution is to imagine how you would feel being criticized by yourself, in the way you actually do it to other people, not how you think someone "should" take "feedback".
I dont think criticism is helpful to me. Correction and feedback are way more effective. Criticism is negative and judgemental while feedback and correction explain steps and details of how you can fix problems without being scared of making mistakes. I ignore criticism and listen to proper feedback.
what if someone is really doing something wrong. like shouting at toddlers. You praise for what they do right but isn't going to stop what they do wrong?
I’m struggling with this with my kids! I know when we’re critical we’re trying to ultimately “teach” something but it’s done wrong and your telling them what you don’t want, not what you “do” want. But I’ve been so burned out and my adult child is being a turd and I’ve been so frustrated
I'll start after this: the title of this piece includes: "...in two steps..." Only one thing was said: "Go on a criticism diet." If I play this video for someone else I think is a criticism machine....I'm being critical. Where does it end?!? Joking.
But what is I’m a teacher …? How do I not give feedback to things that have to be improved? Also, Im the boss of a business, how do I feedback when the worker is fucking up so badly
Soooo my husband just went off on me yesterday because he was fed up with my criticism and being critical of everything he does. He always says that i criticize him because i always think im right and the way he does things is wrong. which is a yes and no. I just believe in what makes sense and working smarter not harder. I am VERY practical in my thinking and doing. So when he does things that dont make sense to me i question it...which i dont see an issue...its me trying to make sense of why he is doing what he is doing...but he takes is very personal and it feels like i cant question what he does to understand his logic because it doesnt make sense to me. He is very bothered with me and i feel bad but at the same time i dont because it comes from a place of trying to understand and make his life easier ... i like this video because i see why hes bothered but now i need ways on how to stop myself to criticize him and how to show acknowledgement, compliments praise and appreciation of the things that he does right...i really need help i dont want to be this way with my husband he doesnt deserve it but i dont know how to stop it...
Oh gosh, that's tough when you're looking for information and the other person hears criticism. Maybe you could ask him to suggest a phrase that would let him know you're just trying to understand, something that wouldn't trigger him.
Super hard. Have you ever heard of the complaint-free-world challenge? You're supposed to put a bracelet on one hand and every time you complain, you have to move it to the other hand. The goal is to go 21 days without moving the bracelet. It's shockingly hard, even for positive people. This can be similarly difficult for someone stuck in this pattern. I recommend starting small. A day. An hour even!

Thank you so much for this, you made us not feel shame for the realization about this 😢

Glad it was helpful! 💙
Thank you for this video. Tough stuff I needed to hear delivered in such a kind and understanding manner. My criticism diet begins today.
Wonderful Nicole! Just do your best 💙

uh oh it's like you're in my brain. from looking at your channel your videos are going to hit close to home. i've got my notepad ready.
Thank you Stacey, video is so helpful. I'm a personal trainer, I love that go on a criticism diet. 🙏
People who are overly critical of you know it's toxic and that it stirs up anger.
True
Thank you very much. This really helps me.

It's so tricky in parenting because it's kind of corrective by nature. I try to balance it out with appreciation and comments on what they do well.
my ex supervisor needs this video, and so did i thank you lol

#2 is hand out praise instead. Thanks for your comment it got me curious about what #2 was.

Your first step sounds like the end goal. Honest question, is it that easy for others?
