The H.B.C.U. ( Historically Black College Universities) theme for this performance was TOP TIER! The collations, representation, and overall culture influence that's embedded in everyone that took part in this show is (to me) what makes this special... so special.
This performance/documentary ALWAYS has me chocked up throughout its entirety. Who ever were able to witness her there live that’s such a privilege. Just as she said it herself, she won’t ever push herself like this again. This is history.
This performance is arguably the greatest musical performance in history. I mean When you think about it, her stage presence, her vocals, her dance moves, her production, her stamina and energy are truly in a league of there own.
This is how black bands actually get down all the time. Not just at HBCUs, but jr high and high school too, specifically in the south. I miss those days. I loved being in the band.
I was there maybe 10 feet from the stage. I’m not a huge Beyoncé fan but that performance was life changing. It was iconic to have witnessed so close. I will say the experience is a test of insurance and ability survive because the the crowd packed.
She was ROBBED of MANY EMMYS and at least one Oscar (Listen, Spirit, and Be Alive are all incredible songs)… our girl is THAT GIRL. Love her so much. She is the GREATEST OF ALL TIME. I will die on that hill!
I absolutely loved and still love HOMECOMING. The use of actual marching band members and other college students is so awesome. Queen Bey gives back in so many ways and HOMECOMING is a prime example of that giving back. I watched this on Netflix and was and still is blown away...🤯. Spectacular Bey and crew.
It's called Homecoming because colleges have Homecoming every year, and specifically for HBCU's it's a time for celebration and the bands to come and show out. Games, parties etc. Homecoming is a big deal every year, so it's doubly important in this instance because of the meaning itself but the added layer to her returning to the stage after her experience of being pregnant with her twins, which totally changed a lot for her. I've seen this shit a million times, and I cry every time. Black people, being the absolute baddest, always makes me emotional. And the band and drill teams are always going to make me nostalgic for my childhood. So many memories tied to the hbcu bands. CULTURE!
One this I love about this is that you are getting a performance and being entertained even when Beyoncé is NOT on the stage. That’s how you know you have a good team/crew Also when she sings Lift Ev’ry Voice. It’s gets me emotional even more that I know the meaning of the song
You have got to be my ALL TIME fave Beyoncé reactor! I’ve been a huge Beyoncé fan since 98-99, and it’s a pleasure watching you appreciate and enjoy her art. Well done! I can’t wait for Part 2!
A PIECE OF ADVISE: Zeke, please focus on the visuals too, coz that completes the experience. You're looking down a lot of times and missing out on some of the best visuals and interludes. Those are integral parts of her performances. If you have to do something, you can just paused it and edit it. So you won't miss the arts she created to complete the experience.
The clip of different HBCUs m, she actually reached out to different videographers who follow and film HBCU band and dance to use those videos. They simple highlight band culture and dance culture. The reason why she was inspired to do Coachella this way.
The use of the full Black Homecoming experience as a theme is so great on such a national stage. Majorettes, drumline, stepping, the stands on stage. It’s just so rich and beautiful to witness.
I’m new to your channel. Bey brought me here. Love watching people appreciate how talented and technically detailed she is. Especially with some of my favorite performances. 🐝🐝🐝
I've been thinking about homecoming for a few months and just hoe genius it is. Truly if she had done the exact same concert again I would gladly pay to see it in person. I haven't watched it in quite a long time but I have probably 10 times when it came out lmao. One of the greatest performances ever!
1:12:35 FUN FACT: She's referring to her self-titled visual album ''BEYONCÉ''. We had absolutely no idea about it and it was surprise released on Friday, December 13, 2013. The great success of the album led to a change of the new music release date, previously being Tuesday, to Friday. *Changed the game with that digital drop!*
@41:44 Beyonce paying tribute to the HBCU(Historical Black Colleges & Universities) experience when to this entire coachella performance. From singing the negro national anthem, or going to step shows or the battle of bands, the majorettes dancing during football games , black fraternity and sorority life. All of it is in this performance.
I just discovered you and I love your Beyoncé reactions. You seem to be a very genuine person. 💕 So Homecoming was a play on many things. The schools that were shown are all HBCUs and some are the most popular HBCU bands in the nation. Homecoming in HBCU culture is HUGE. There’s probates where sororities and fraternities reveal their new lines (this explains the step shows and the men in the jumpsuits in lines) pledges basically. There’s also big games and the marching band is more important than the football teams at most schools. Lol Bey really created her own “Homecoming” in more ways than one.
My favorite part is (everything) the interlude before Don't Hurt Yourself and that whole set. She proved in that set that she's a great performer, vocalist, director, with great musical ears, visuals and production. That set (And Homecoming overall) was perfection.
Oh don’t you worry, I’m going to do a part 2. I will finish the ones I started but then switch to single song performances for a while until my life gets a bit more sorted out 😊
you are such a dope husband, i watch all your Beyonce reactions, and in a few you mention your wife. and i can see/hear how much you care/love her. anyway, i love watching your Beyonce reactions and how much you understand her work and how hard she works. I dont understand how so many people dont like her or doesnt give her credit where its due.
A lot of the members of the band, dancers, performers for Beyonce` Homecoming, are current and alumni of those and other HBCU's named/shown on the screen. Most schools (High Schools and Colleges/Universities) have homecoming but at HBCU's it is a celebration of HBCU/Black culture. Homecoming at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) is an annual highlight for the campus and the community, celebrating Black joy and culture. A highly anticipated and important event, homecoming allows these institutions to connect with their communities and to forge relationships between generations of students and alumni. The bond is nurtured at events like homecoming where generations of African Americans return to a place where they are celebrated and uplifted. - Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture
Lol I was confused too when the colors changed but she performed 2 nights in a row and that’s just how they edited this documentary lol and that band did their thang!!!! Loved every min of this performance!!
The thing about the dance break at about 57 min in is that...this woman has been on stage for an hour already, singing and belting and dancing. And then she does...THAT?!! (Also if you look at the rehearsal scenes, the opening steps to the dance break are one of the first combinations she worked on getting back into it. ICON GODDESS ETC)
I was literally tapping the screen trying to get your attention anytime you’d look down and it was all out of excitement and I didn’t want you to miss anything. Nonetheless great reaction!!! Pt 2 here I come!!
Thank you Zee for this reaction. I watched on your Patreon a few days ago but saw this uploaded and knew I needed to give you the TH-cam view. We appreciate your time, but please take care of yourself as well! Sending love to you and the family ❤
Truly one of the greatest performances of all time. The attention to detail, the message, and the execution of both the performance and the documentary. This is definitely a moment that further sent her career into a legendary status in an ever-changing world of interests where she manages to quite literally be the standard of every other artist. Insane
i mean this concert is the definitive proof ...Whitney? amazing voice..Mariah? Amazing voive...Madonna? amazing performer....Beyonce? Something else........Queen
Lemme watch this again while I impatiently wait for part 2 The HBCU theme will always eat! Can't believe this film lost all its 6 emmy nominations to shows like carpool karaoke The best coachella performance ever!
Lol very fair comment. I almost didn’t post the video because of that. But I felt I just have to be real with what I recorded. Just unfortunate timing, I thought I would be free but stuff kept coming up on my phone that needed my attention. It will be put away for part 2 😁
I just so happen to stumble upon your video! I'm only 59 mins in and I'm enjoying your commentary. You're giving all the feels I had watching the first night (yellow outfit) live at 2am on TH-cam with headphones on because boo was sleep. I got so excited I just went downstairs and put it on the big TV and lost my entire mind you hear me. Lmao. Just hearing the little things like the stomps and the background chants, the horns and the drums. It was just everything!! Being a Bey fan I shed a tear a little bit. Once the Netflix special aired omg. The behind the scenes stuff, seeing what she went through to pull this off after having her babies, is amazing. I still till this day watch the Netflix special as if I never saw it before. I know all the transitions and dance moves. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Just to clarify, Coachella is two weekends. She performed the same show, but had different outfits for weekend two. That’s why you see her change randomly haha.
omg omg omg. I see all the work you're putting into even recording this but as someone who joined the channel after your "the gift" reaction I'm so grateful that you heard the hive and are reacting to homecoming!!!
You have the best reaction video to BEYCHELLA because u genuinely appreciate music, art and performance… seems like everybody just gives these weird ass critiques and stops the videos just to say a whole bunch of nothing or don’t even pay attention to what they are watching or take in the moment
ooouu ive been anticipating your reaction to homecoming, fantastic video as always. I actually like when you pause and breakdown the things that you appreciate each time and I cant wait for part two but take care of yourself! glad that you're feeling better.
Many of the performers are from HBCUs. This is the inspiration for the performance. The build up was nearly a year. She basically started right after giving birth to the twins. That pregnancy had delayed her headlining Coachella by a year.
She named it Homecoming in reference to HBCU football culture. It's all about the bands in black college sports. Homecoming is the biggest game of the year at an HBCU. Everyone comes "home." This film deserved an Emmy! The BEST Coachella performance to date! 👑 🐝
