Congratulations on being a father, the best advice my father gave me, and one I share with new parents: * Don't try and be silent around your baby. It's tempting because you don't want to wake them, but you want to get them used to being around noise while they sleep so you can get stuff done. He advised doing vacuuming around my son, perhaps you can start a 1U server while your child is sleeping? :-) Aside from that? Less is more. You don't need all the things you think you need. Essential purchases? Get puppy toilet training pads, they make great disposable nappy changing mats (especially good when changing on the go or when changing an ass explosion). We also bought a bulk 12 pack of 70cm 'muslin squares', there are a thousand things you'll find uses for. They can provide a shade that can be clipped up anywhere, they can mop up body fluids, etc. My wife now uses them as a cloth when she works out!
Making noise while the little one is sleeping is critical. We had a busy city soundscape (with honking horns, clanks, etc at random intervals) playing in the hospital. We kept that up and now the kiddo doesn't mind noises when sleeping.
Given the various videos of people having terrible times with ASUS support, getting bad items from RMA multiple times... I'll pass on buying any more ASUS gear in the future.

I now don’t trust ASUS who are likely to bake in a gotcha. I recently got a PN53 ( ryzen 4x4 NUC like) to update my intel NUC. It can’t run headless and ASUS don’t have BIOS settings to stop the monitor check. They refuse to accept that should be changed (lazy tech). Very sorry I got ASUS

@@ServeTheHomeVideoI’ve been in the pc sphere for a long time. We knew ASUS RMAs were crap back in the late 90s and early 2000s, back when you had to ship RMAs back to Taiwan.
First, congrats again on the baby! Hope mom and him are healthy and doing well. Baby advice: treasure every moment, even the ones that aren’t so great. Everyone told me how fast they grow up but I didn’t internalize it in the same way as I have since. Even when our 3 month old spits up or there is a gnarly diaper change at 3am… I try to remember he’ll only be little like this once. It’s amazing to watch them grow up but also… it’s tough. NUC: these are awesome… I do sure some misgivings about Asus support , which is a shame because they do some very solid engineering work in general (not without their mistakes of course). I’m hoping we see them really work on providing great CS as it will push everyone to do better because asus is a market leader in several segments. Great video as always! Congrats again Patrick!
14:22 46-48 Watts of noise? :P (small mistake in text). My problem with Asus is by default not really communicating what they fix or update in a new bios, if they even fix anything at all. However a lot of things could be arranged for business laptops.
Congrats on your baby and becoming a father! Advice: • if it’s a boy, get yourself a weewee teepee! • for crying unconsolably, simply a change of scene may work better than any soothing you try. • from three months, read rhyming books for getting ready to sleep - Lynley Dodd’s Hairy Maclary and Slinki Malinki book series are great fun. One of the best things I can tell you from a dad to a dad, buy a bunch of books for your baby, sure you won't be able to read through them with your child but they'll corollate books with cuddle time and as time goes on you'll have a little one on your lap cuddled up as you read books to them. :) Let their imagination soar without limits!
Asus does have a N100 fanless. ASUS ExpertCenter PN42 Little pricey compared to other small N100 units, especially as no storage or ram is included, but it has Wifi 6E which was really nice for my setup. I'm running mine with a 32GB DDR4 stick.
Congrats! Two pieves of advice: First treat nightime baby duty like shift work. One parent is on from bedtime until midnight (or the halfway point for your collective sleep schedule) and the other is on from midnight (or halfway point) to morning. This allows both parents to get 5-6 hours of uninterrupted sleep. THIS WILL BE A GAME CHANGER. Trust me on this. Second advice; do what works for you. You don't need to listen to any advice and should do what works for your family.

I can see it flexing over time making bad contact. According to Intel though the newer e-cores should be interesting, as they are claiming 38-68% IPC gains.

Congratulations! No advice here, except that it's very much okay to ignore "advice" you didn't ask for. ;) How do you think the N50 system would do as an OPNSense box? For $50 more, ASUS has the same system available in a 4 core Intel Atom x7425E config that can apparently use DDR4 RAM. I've never heard of that processor, and it runs at 12w, but maybe that'd be a better option for a firewall? I'd like to replace my OptiPlex 5040 SFF-based firewall with something smaller that uses less power. On the NUC 14 Pro, what's behind the little punch out board on the side with the ports (NIC, etc.)? There are two screws, and it looks like the ovaloid piece comes out. SSD insert/remove?
As a dad of 5 it took me a while to figure out my place. But in a nut shell woman grow kids their kids entire life. Men teach kids by actions and by words; Make sure to carefully teach regularly by fun and by work.
I think the former Intel NUC business that ASUS took over competes with those especially in edge deployments. See the Chick Fil A K8s clusters. On the ROG NUC it could put a lot of pressure on small form factor workstations
What would be the cheapest /low power config for /pc/mini pc to get 10g via rj45 (connected to a router with 10g).. Just the cheapest computer to get 10g ? Any suggestions ? (thinking about mac mini but they still are expensive and mac is something i'd like to avoid). Not a super fancy pc, just one with 10g and can exploit it easily, No gaming etc on the pc.
Congratulations to the new father. I wish your family the best. The NUCs look fun, obviously my favorite would probably be the ROG. I can't afford to pay the shipping costs for one, but a man can dream lol. I just wish Nvidia had more than 8GB of VRAM on the 4070. I mean...FFS!
Pro Parenting Tip: Enjoy it! Everyone always told me about the sleepless nights, the patience needed, nappy changing etc etc. No one ever told me how much fun it would be! Being a dad is awesome, don't forget to enjoy it 😅! My 2 cents.
I have been told that the New Lunar Lake Dev Kits, will be NUCs made by Asus. So it's great to see them having a very likely chassis for that. 48W of Noise... Is quite a lot :P
Wi-Fi module is not upgradeable on the NUC 14 Pro anymore! Pretty disappointing, as these NUCs tend to last a long time and it would have been nice to be able to swap to Wi-Fi 7 or 8 when available.
First tip about being a father, especially a new father: You sleep when the baby sleeps. Period. End of story. Unless there's red (blood), black (bruises/internal bleeding/sepsis/infection), blue (not breathing), or a fire, EVERYTHING, and I mean, LITERALLY EVERYTHING else, can wait. I remember the early days, when tiny human #1 is born, you're going to burn through any excess energy that you might have "saved up". Your spouse/partner/gf will need your support and you can't be effective and efficient at it, if you're sleep deprived. Second tip about being the father (although a LOT of hospitals will teach this, but I'll say it anyways): If you're holding the baby and you even doze off for a split second (e.g. "go fishing"), put the baby in the bassinet/crib/baby box. It is VERY dangerous to fall asleep with the baby in your arms as they can slide/fall out of your arms. You might have been taught this by the nurses at the hospital before they even let you leave, but it doesn't hurt repeating it. Third tip: Your spouse/partner/gf, if they are nursing, will be more sleep deprived than you are (and you WILL be VERY sleep deprived). Volunteer to help initially, and then eventually, you might get into a rhythm where you will just take turns taking the shifts. Fourth tip: Work can wait. Being present and in the moment with your newborn son is time that you can't get back. There will ALWAYS be work. Your son WON'T always be a newborn forever. Cherish this time. The first three months will seem slow in the moment, but later on, and you reflect back, it will feel like it just flew by. Congratulations, once again! Happy early Father's Day!
I had the Ethernet and 2x USB module filmed in this one, but we had to cut it to keep the video flowing. There is the same expansion slot on the NUC 13 Rugged Short, but there some of the M.2 to I/O internal cables sold with the upgrade kits do not fit.
18w tdp on idle is bad for the nuc 14 pro. things didn't change much for intel+windows gang. why not use a beelink ser8 for the quiet and efficient system if you still need windows
congrats on the baby! don't worry too much about sleep - you'll get back to normal in 4-5 years ;) Also, looking forward to hearing some dad jokes thrown into videos here and there - you're now entitled to make them.
These seem awesome and hopefully ASUS performs a turn-around as far as consumer-facing stuff like RMA-handling so that good products are worth buying again. I've just seen so many kids basically destroyed by this in recent years, but any non-interactive media should be fully incidental. Kids watching shows with the family, with their people is just fine. Kids zombifying themselves on video content like the endless 24/7 dave & ava(about the most benign it gets) stuff ensures they undermine the foundational ability to understand that you can have positive worthwhile value, fun and interest, come of effort. Educational programming is useful and all, but educational interacting with the kid is better than anything else anyone can possibly do. My best experiences have been with simply playing relaxing classical music on the living room TV. Kids do a great job of catching vibes and that's a good vibe. Reading/looking at picture books together, amazing. Playing well-built games like Cats Love Boxes or old phonics games with kids, awesome. Pajama Sam, Freddy Fish, etc. are timeless classics. Just don't give into the impulse to be lazy. Every second you spend with your kid no matter your mood, no matter the "damn it I'm just so tired right now I want to put them on anything" will be rewarded and it is worth it with how much love kids show in return. Kids also don't actually get hurt that easily. Once the crawling starts and you've gotten rid of anything that could really really hurt a little fall here and there, food that's a little too bitter, a little too spicy, only a little too hot is exactly a learning experience. The grass outside and the carpet inside are great places to fall and even really young kids just love being outside basically as soon as they can move. It doesn't take much effort to keep track of a kid in a backyard and it doesn't take much effort to keep a happy kid moving. As a final note, the most important initial stage of socialization takes place somewhere around 1-3 years old and I think usually has up until around 2 and a half or so. Kids should play with other kids of similar age and really they need to even as babies and toddlers, otherwise their lifelong social outcomes are simply worse. It's exceptionally important and I dread what the lockdowns did to a generation of toddlers :(
Mine just turned 18. My motto is love the boy more than hate the dirty diaper. I retired from being a contract IT professional, so I could stay home with my son who was born too soon. Treasure these days I don't know where you are to recommend any places. I am in Jersey.

How do you think the N50 system would do as an OPNSense box? For $50 more, ASUS has the same system available in a 4 core Intel Atom x7425E config that can apparently use DDR4 RAM. I've never heard of that processor, and it runs at 12w, but maybe that'd be a better option for a firewall?
I'd like to replace my OptiPlex 5040 SFF-based firewall with something smaller that uses less power.
On the NUC 14 Pro, what's behind the little punch out board on the side with the ports (NIC, etc.)? There are two screws, and it looks like the ovaloid piece comes out. SSD insert/remove?
Congrats on being a dad :) Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching!
As a dad of 5 it took me a while to figure out my place. But in a nut shell woman grow kids their kids entire life. Men teach kids by actions and by words; Make sure to carefully teach regularly by fun and by work.
Super advice.
Very interesting. Would you use these over Lenovo/Dell mini PCs for companies? or home?
Totally agree on this. 16GB would be super.
Your life skills experience with cleaning and applying thermal compound with the least mess will serve you well.
That it is. Nutella recently.
Baby tip: It comes out of both ends at full force.. and peepee teepees do not work, they just turn into projectiles.. Congrats :)
Yea I got hit the other day!
Just in time for qty of 50 pieces.... Thanks for the insight!
I'd be interested in knowing if the 2.5 inch slots could use a u.2 drive with an adapter from the m.2 . Mostly spacing stuff
You would need M.2 for PCIe and power from elsewhere. Also, the power is much higher on U.2 NVMe SSDs.
Congratulations!!!! , my best advice is sleep whenever you can and hit the gym you're going to need it
Did you get the new model baby with the AI accelerator? 🙂
I will be prompt engineering with him for many years
Congratulations Dad!
Pro Parenting Tip: Enjoy it! Everyone always told me about the sleepless nights, the patience needed, nappy changing etc etc. No one ever told me how much fun it would be! Being a dad is awesome, don't forget to enjoy it 😅! My 2 cents.
How much are these machines?
Happy Father's Day, and the best advice I can give is, "GET SOME SLEEP!" Sleep when the baby sleeps!
Thanks! I have been trying, but it is not much
I have been told that the New Lunar Lake Dev Kits, will be NUCs made by Asus.
So it's great to see them having a very likely chassis for that.
48W of Noise... Is quite a lot :P
I'm late, but... CONGRATULATIONS!
Ha! Thank you!
Congratulations!
Thank you!
Wi-Fi module is not upgradeable on the NUC 14 Pro anymore! Pretty disappointing, as these NUCs tend to last a long time and it would have been nice to be able to swap to Wi-Fi 7 or 8 when available.
baby tip - they have different kinds of cries, so you really should pay attention to differentiate between them
Congrats dad, just help mom and be yourself. It comes naturally..
Is there still HDMI CEC support with the Asus nucs?
First tip about being a father, especially a new father:
You sleep when the baby sleeps.
Second tip about being the father (although a LOT of hospitals will teach this, but I'll say it anyways):
If you're holding the baby and you even doze off for a split second (e.g.
Third tip:
Your spouse/partner/gf, if they are nursing, will be more sleep deprived than you are (and you WILL be VERY sleep deprived). Volunteer to help initially, and then eventually, you might get into a rhythm where you will just take turns taking the shifts.
Fourth tip:
Work can wait.
Great advice

You're welcome.
Congratulations :-)
Thank you!
The long oval slot cover on the rear of the NUC 14 Pro can be replaced with an optional 2nd 2.5GE RJ45 Ethernet port.
I had the Ethernet and 2x USB module filmed in this one, but we had to cut it to keep the video flowing. There is the same expansion slot on the NUC 13 Rugged Short, but there some of the M.2 to I/O internal cables sold with the upgrade kits do not fit.
Can this asus nuc pc be used as a separate computer for sim racing rig setup?
waiting for Akasa case for NUC 14 Pro...
Amazing point!
congratulations, take it easy and arrange some support(eg family) so you have a bit time for your self.
Treasure these days
I don't know where you are to recommend any places. I am in Jersey.
Why have you retired? Why didn't you get parenting leave?
Congrats on the USFF human
Very SFF
