This young guy is Buddy Guys guy. 15 year overnight star in making. Also has jammed with Santana. Love the slow layered build and the way he puts a bow tie on his riff endings.
Saw Quinn once again last night March 4, 2023 at a small club in Providence RI. His playing continues to amaze. He is a young man with an old soul. Genius.
The best part of the solo was in the beginning where he gives us a taste and then makes you wait and anticipate the next set of notes . Most guitar players get nervous in the silence and start filling it up with unnecessary sound ,but Quinn holds the silent space with a beautiful liveliness and then places some more beautiful notes on top of that silence . brilliant .
I’m a drummer & not a guitarist, but I grew up loving Eddie VanHalen, Joe Satriani, & SRV. I just found Quinn Sullivan 2 weeks ago & your channel today, & I’ve never seen anyone break down a guitarist on the spot & in such detail as you did … well done sir, we’ll done! 😎
I saw Quinn Sullivan open for Buddy Guy at a theater in Nashville when I was 15 and he was 18, it was really inspiring to see someone so young playing like him.
Dude! You have the best vids on the interwebs-topics, discussion, format and of course your fantanstic chops and theory knowledge. You give the best presentation of songs and their breakdown. I just want to say thank you. You Sir are the best.
This slowhand style is what I consider a perfect solo…. Nothing flashy, but you absolutely know you heard it….And the band….. can we talk about this pocket? Wow
The song is pretty cringe and not my style but I get what he's trying to do. Country pop John Mayer sorta thing. His guitar playing however is top notch and he has incredible taste and phrasing.
Just saw this kid in Philly. He’s an amazing talent - great singer and great guitar player. His newest song Once Upon A Lie is a nice jazzy groove, catchy song.
Wow. Thanks to you and your follower for pointing out this guy. I love blues like that, where the guitar just sings like his voice does. His singing reminded me at points like Jonny Lang, but quite a differnet style overall, yet the same play like you sing blues. Awesome!
Remember seeing videos of Quinn when he was a kid tearing up the blues with legends like Buddy Guy. He’s a great player and has a great voice. Glad he is doing his own thing and killing it!
Thanks Michael, and I agree he and the band are worth lots of attention. He certainly developed in a fantastic way since the first times I saw him on the “Crossroads” stage...Thanks again!
i learn SO MUCH from these videos. USed to passivley watch and love the enthusiasm Mike gives, but latley picking up my guitar and following the steps and putting together the theory - this oner added loads to my lick bag as well as my understanding of the scale notes and the compound notes
Quinn has been playing a since a little boy. His father is a drummer so yeah, no wonder, he is ,who he is. BB King, when interviewed said the same thing about "telling a story" and the nuances are the "tip of the hat".
"Are we doing guitar melodies that are singable?" Michael, that says it all. The more people that grasp ahold of that, the better future music will become. Great young artist, thanks for sharing and explaining.
He tore that up from top to bottom! I hear the soul of Daryl Hall in the vocal delivery, and so many guitar influences coming in and out. A bit of Eric Johnson mixed with touch of Eric Clapton and the control of the harmonic feedback like Satriani ... and many more, that he has thrown into a melting pot and made it his own. Very tasty. Very meaty. And awesome study in mixing tragedy and romance. Thanks to the sub that sent this to you, and thank you Michael for sharing your breakdown and thoughts!
So happy to see Quinn here. So talented, have been listening to his music like crazy lately. I hope he continues to grow. Definitely recommend you listen to his cover of ‘Let It Rain’ by Eric Clapton at Daryl’s House. He is younger in that video but damn is he good.
Good review! Quinn has a very Clapton-esque feel to his soloing at times, especially those fast little hammer-ons higher up the neck. Great player. And yes, melodic solos are the way to go, mixed with a little showing off at times, naturally 😉✌️
I came to this video because it mentions Quinn Sullivan in the title, and I’m a huge Quinn fan. I know nothing about how to play music or the guitar, and I didn’t understand a word you were saying…BUT…as a non-musician, there is something about Quinn’s music that is hard to explain. I just “feel” his music deeply and emotionally. So watching your break his guitar playing down into the details, and the emotion and appreciation you showed for his talent was fascinating to listen and watch. You understand his music on a very different and deeper level than I ever will, but the net affect is the same…. His music touches the soul. Thank you for your detailed analysis. It was amazing.
Rock on! This youngster is great! I have been waiting on you to react to something he has done. You know any body who Buddy Guy has taken in under his wing is going to be great.
A beautiful soulful player. Great feel and excellent vocals. The song is fantastic but the solo absolutely takes it to the next level. Thanks for the insight into one of my favourite songs and guitarists. I've subscribed on the back of this excellent video.
I found Quinn a few years ago by accident I guess you could say . I saw a video of him and Buddy Guy and clicked on it and Quinn was just 14 then I think but my mouth just about hit the floor when Buddy stepped back and let him go ! He's absolutely one of the best guitarist out there today and ain't nothing to debate about that . You watch many of his videos you'll see what I'm talking about .
You do almost ever good analysis and work.thk for your work from Switzerland.i like too much your work, it make me being better and understanding music more than before
Quinn was taken under the wings of Buddy Guy when he was a very young teenager, played alongside of Buddy at many of his concerts. Was on Ellen Degeneraus when he was about 6 or 7. Kids been around for a while.
We should all be thankful to buddy guy who toured with Quinn when Quinn was a child. Quinn was a child prodigy who toured with buddy guy and has played with many of the blues greats.
This Quinn's solo is sooooo great, you could almost think Clapton plays it himself with his style/tone from the 2000's. Clapton legacy is right here guys, but King is not dead yet!
So glad that his mature voice ended up being a great one. I think he was on the Ellen show twice when he was about 7. On his second visit Clapton sent a guitar to the show to have Ellen give him. Child prodigy.
Quinn was 8 when he stepped on stage in our hometown New Bedford, Ma at the Zeiterion theater. I was at a pre-concert party on the top of the Z's parking garage and thought "man, this little kid is going to play with Buddy Guy??" Well, he did, Buddy was shocked and ended up taking Quinn under his wing. Quinn had already been a guest on Ellen DeGeneres when he was 6 doing Beatles music. It;s been fun following his progression. He appears to be a good kid from a good family who still seems to have his head screwed on straight in an industry that destroys so many artists. Next week he's back in the area at a performing arts center and yeah, I'll be there.
Everyone commenting about his Clapton style and they are right. Clapton was probably his biggest inspiration. Had an online chat with him about the first time he met Eric. Listen to him cover Eric’s ‘Got to get better in a little while’. Shut your eyes and you would think it was Eric soloing himself. Quinn is a super talent.
Hi Michael, might be little unrelated but you look like Casper Ruud the Tennis Player 🤣( French Open Just Finished). BtW this songs Great, Quinn's Great and you are also Great 👍

@@Deliquescentinsight So Michael, did you enjoy it? One thing I absolutely _must_ say about Quinn and his band, they don't take the easy road. They play their hearts out! They nail it and keep on nailing it right to the end. My kind of music!
I don't know if anyone's told you this.
