Your videos are tremendous and this 68 year old History Professor has learned a lot while watching. Your parents have done a wonderful job raising you and teaching you great life skills. You might be 21, but you have the maturity level twice your age. I love how you refer to the cows as ladies!! Keep up the good work!!
Thanks for all your hard work making these videos! They are awesome. I love the way you describe all the different feeds that each age/group of cows get. You really care about your animals!
I like when I get home and have a video from you Jen. Learned a lot of new tings today also. You are a great teacher. Thanks for making my day more complete.
Love watching your vids, you’re very informative and appreciate you explaining why and how you do your tasks. Give us an insight of your daily life on the dairy. Thanks for that, very enjoyable 👌🏽👍🏽
Nobody can really appreciate the care and labor that goes In to that cold drink of milk. You should get a parade everyday! Especially hard and never ending work. Thank you!
I really appreciate that you take the time to explain what you're doing, and WHY you're doing it. You pull your viewers right on to the farm with you, and it makes for a very enjoyable video! Thanks Jan 😀🐄🐮🌽🚜
35 yrs ago I would spend summers at my aunt and uncles farm.. they had maybe 25 head they milked, just enough for them to live.. It was an old farm, cows came in we locked them in stantions and had to walk in between them to clean and attach the milkers.. Luckily each cow was named and pretty much tame, so we didnt get kicked to often.. only when they had a "tude".. I really miss it.. I am glad I got those summers!!
You should check out Mike Michell’s channel as he and his family with a few hired hands farm 40,000 acres in SW Saskatchewan. Mike is humorous to watch😂🤣
I like the way you are with the ladies you are. Very respectful to them a lot farms I see hitting to get move or stab with pitch fork or shockers that’s plain doesn’t need to be done you are just. Gentle and thAts all they need
Yes Ja, you aim this morning was a little off...that is what the cow was trying to get across to you...hit the bucket Jan.🤪. Very interesting how the roller opens up, . Thank you for another interesting video.
Really enjoyed this video. Why? Because you dove deeper into Cow education with feed. I absolutely love when you go into teaching us about Cows. Plus your camera shots in this video were really cool. Out of all your videos this one was one of my favorites. I'm Beligan and maybe this is why I'm so fascinated with Dairy farms. Maybe my family had one back in the day in Belgium. 🤷♂️ I wanna work on your farm for a week and tape it! I'd be so much fun!
Hey DK l love the new mats it brightens up the place and I guess cows do weird things sometimes lol. I like how you explain everything from beginning to end this way you understand on how things work. And as always your footage is great so whats next DK keep up the good work see you in the next video 🤔🐄🚜😊😉
I got my mom to watch your videos. She grew up on a dairy farm and only left when she was pregnant with me. Would have loved to grow up on a dairy farm though. Got to grow up in a fishing town working my family's boat so not half bad.
"Sometimes they do things, you kinda wonder, 'What's goin' on in your head?'" 3:21 Jan, I bet you're pretty good at reading their minds, given the amount of time you work with them. I'd be curious to know how much, and what kind of things of that nature you've learned. Regarding that cow, maybe she has a tooth that is bothering her, or some mouth abscess? Just a nobody guess. I'm loving the frequency of your uploads. And I'm hoping that means you're receiving some additional blessings because of the new approach. It's such a peaceful outlet and relaxation to watch. Thanks much!
Love the knowledge you share, I was thinking why do you need to roll it... and you explained the process. Even the different food for different age groups etc It is so interesting and I thank you for taking the time to give us great content and to educate us as well.
Chores that may seem boring or mundane, honest to goodness I could watch all day. Keep up the great content. I look forward to the day you reach TH-cam subscriber milestones.
You sure get some amazing shots. Love the lady with her face into the post. Good catch with the camera. I bet they look at you sometimes and wonder what your doing too! LOL Thanks for the great videos!
I one time worked in a zoo and the zoo had Ankoli cattle. They were fairly gentle giants but the one thing they did that I believe they did it on purpose and that was to walk into a freshly washed barn and take a poop. They would look me in the eye and PLOP!
Something on the farm that doesn't work ... 😱 Oh The Horrors!. Rofl 😂🤣 "The gas gauge doesn't work". I'm sorry, Jan. Although, if you ran outta gas on that many acres... I would honestly feel bad for ya. That would make for a very long walk.
I'll be sad to see this whole farming thing end like horse drawn carriages, or hand stitched clothing. I mean it. Love that spirit, and that work load!!!
Oddly enough I think this video demonstrates perfectly how humane these cows are treated and how happy they really are. They load into the parlor without really anything more than their own will and it only takes a “come on ladies” from down be low to get them to move along. If those cows were afraid or mistreated they wouldn’t load into the parlor without force. Also the feed shows how well they are taken care of. They get to choose how much they eat so they are in no way starved (even though the breed looks honey) and they can eat and drink as much as they feel which for a cow is pretty much all they want, same with most humans lol. For real though after all of this people can’t say that they are mistreated or unhappy at all.
Cows have been selectively bred so that farmers can maximise profits. This means that cows are now forced to hold about 20, 000 litres ( 5,283 gallons) more milk in their udders than they did 20-30 years ago, which is extremely uncomfortable for them. That’s why they appear keen to get to the milking shed so they can get rid of the feeling like their udders are about to burst. It's not because they particularly enjoy any part of this process. This is just one of the ways cows are mistreated in the dairy industry which is very far from humane.
so tell me, if your farm was able to grow a lot of grass, would you rather be doing a nz/welsh type of dairy farming where cows are out grazing and producing milk from grass at a very low cost, or would you stay to your system of growing various crops and using a lot more machinery but getting very high yields?
Would you consider a sand recyling machine to take the sand out of the manure? I've seen one on some video and think it would definitely help with the problem of all that sand in the manure pit
Love the skid cleaning, neat on explanation of roller expansion. I’m curious, I missed a previous milking vlog on putting the vacuum devices on the pull down panels. You washed the exterior of panels on video. I thought the vacuum devices get cleaned and rinsed in 2 cycles. I can’t think how say vacuum devices politely. “Teat vacuums”? LOL Ta.
With the milking parlor that you have is the cows still able to kick you. Does it take alot to train the heifers, what do you do if you get a slow milker , and a cow with wide spead teats . Sorry for all the questions just was wondering lol
Cows to me are a very beautiful animal most people think they are stupid and have nothing offer but milk or beef if these animals weren’t here we wouldn’t be alive that’s what I think
we go over the fields with the rock pickers in springtime any loose rocks it puts up them Saskatchewan gofer are back again lol and wild pigs are back too we have people willing to hurt them for use have potatoes starting to be put in 40 red and 40 white we plant 80 acres the working on the planters to start wheat too someone forgot to clean them out yeap not that happy with them

always wonder why you guys scrape the alleys and then rake the beds. seems to me that raking the bed would be first. great vid. tx.

The cold winter weather makes it hard to pasture milk cows
Gavin Perry the cows are dried off in the winter so they get a break and kept inside in the winter at a low cost
Great video as always Question why do you roll the fields after you plant ? Doesn't that compact the soil and make it harder so seed emergence?
Love the video
