      Mazda has been getting better in North America these past couple of years. The biggest issue used to be paint and undercoating problems. I had a 2008 Mazda 3. Nice car but the paint around the rear fenders started to flake off and rust and rust started to form on the trunk two years after I bought it . The paint issues were common on Mazda in the 2000's and early 2010s. Apparently they were undercoat properly.

      There are lots of good car plants in North America. But they are dominated by Toyota, Honda and Subaru. It's those manufacturers that hire good engineers and a dedicated production workers. The Japanese plants in North America seem to have that. Ford, GM and Chrysler have been at war with their employees since at least the 1950s. Our Ford Edge (2018 2.0L Ecoboost) is averaging 26.8 MPG , the Ford Ranger (2019, 2.3L Ecoboost) averages 24.8 MPG and our GMC Terrain (2021 1.5L Turbo) averages 30.0 MPG. All are combined city and highway averages. In my opinion, that is great mileage for vehicles of their size and capability. Certainly better than I got from similar naturally aspirated vehicles in the past, many of which had less power.

      to me, the CVT on the Toyota Corolla I rented wasn't terrible, but not great. The real deal-breaker for me was the awful electric power steering - took so many constant steering corrections, not comfortable to drive as my 99 Mustang six is -

    • @eskieman3948
      @eskieman3948 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The CVT in my '22 OB XT is fine.... very little difference between that and our previous 2010 Chevy Malibu 4cyl. Two things about the CVT: 1) CVTs LOVE an engine with ample torque, the more the engine has, the more the CVT acts & feels just like a classic automatic transmission, and 2) If you are the type of driver that has to frequently stomp on the gas, and then stab the brakes over & over & over as a driving style, you're probably not going to care for any vehicle with a CVT.

    Ford's automatic electronic parking brake is terribly bad when in cold weather due to the fact the battery is never charged at the correct voltage, 14.8v was the old standard due to cold weather depleting the battery by up to 5%... So... If you only charge a battery at 12.1v, when it gets cold, it becomes to low to function the automatic brake... It's very stupid idea, often when on an incline it doesn't register the incline and as such doesn't work... 🤦

When you try to start the car a light will glow. Pust the button it will open the relay and the power restored. We have them installed on our fleet.

    Back in 1987 when I was taking driver's education there were very few people who called it a parking brake. It was called an emergency brake. In most emergencies if you brakes go out you won't HAVE an emergency brake to bring the car to a stop since they are tied to the regular system. I have witnessed an accident where someone saw the light turn green but the person in front of them didn't, but the air bags went off when basically the front vehicle got pushed up on the median. It freaked out the guy's kids. And even though I was not asked for a witness statement I not only saw but heard everything. Including the guy in front yelling something about wishing he had an emergency brake on the car when he saw in his rear mirror what the guy in back of him was about to do.

    Hmm. Even my old '09 Impreza 5 speed manual turns the headlights off if you leave them on at the light switch and switch off the car. They changed that on the new ones? The only way I can allow headlights to run down the battery is to shut the car off and then switch the headlights on manually and walk away.
