It's great that many of you want to help Shaun, but the truth is there are tens of thousands of homeless young adults just like Shaun sleeping rough, and THEY ALL NEED HELP. My suggestion is to connect with a local homeless services provider that's working to end homelessness and support them through donations, volunteering, or advocacy. It's IMPORTANT that we all take tangible actions to help prevents homelessness from happening in the first place, and if a person ends up sleeping rough, we need to support the organizations working to get them off the streets into housing! Please take that compassion and passion you're feeling and use it to help end homelessness for all young adults!

The total cost of the royal wedding for Harry and Meghan was around $43 million (or £32 million) Yet there are homeless on the streets of London. This should bother us.

      @kakapodoo421 4 ปีที่แล้ว +151

I totally understand ... not being mean to royal family or anything. Just I prefer the tax I pay can really goes to these poor young people , this money can be used by government to give him some skill training, find him a basic job etc. Instead of buying royal members luxuries. Imagine how many outfits Meghan had everytime when they appear in public or media. Maybe the price of one of her dresses can give this young man a two months training course in anything: baking, cooking, fixing something, cleaning etc. InStead of just a clothes Meghan wears once. Having no issues to her and she is just an example to representing all the tax money that used in a weird way that I sincerely don’t understand.

There you go!! You hit the nail on the head. If people like the royal family had to face life on the street, it would be a whole new ballgame. My wedding cost a whole total of 100.00 for two witnesses and the cost of the license. I can’t imagine 43 million for a wedding, that’s insane. Think of what one could do with that kind of money.... a homeless shelter or a civic center, education.

MT Reza $500 or £500 a month. Either way that would barely cover food surely. No where they can cook so would have to be take away (out) food all the time, unless there are soup kitchens. I don’t know but tell me could you pay rent of $100 / £100 a week somewhere, and pay bills and food too out of that? I am missing something for sure but surely that is not enough to subsist let alone buy anything like alcohol, drugs or cigarettes that I assume you are referring to. Some people must be pretty desperate if they are stealing your shoes.

He said what kept him down was that he couldn’t get a job because he didn’t have a home address and didn’t know anyone in the city he became homeless. He said he was this way for 3 years. What got him out of this was he saved money from collecting glass bottles. He then bought some used tools and started fixing trashed furniture and selling it at a flea market. Finally God sent a kind older man who offered him a trailer to live in at the flea market.

Saw this video last Wednesday. Today I was approached by a barefoot homeless man asking for me to buy him some sandals. I immediately remembered this kid saying his shoes got stolen. I remembered wanting to help this kid out as I too lost both parents (but I’m fortunate to be a bit older than him, have a job and a supportive family)... I’m from Brazil and I was impacted by his story so the best way I found to “help” him was to help someone in my neighborhood and I bought the man a meal and a pair of sandals. Goes to show that in times where the internet can be a cruel and shallow place, it can also be used for good and kindness.

I spent 4 years on the street sleeping rough. Because I kept myself the best I could people didn't realise I was homeless. I remember I went to a food place where they gave out hot food and they refused to accept I was homeless because I kept myself well. In truth I would spend all day in the Library. I had got a card with an address on it before I became homeless. The only time someone realised I was homeless was when I went into Burger king to bye something to eat and they gave me free Onions rings. I thought it was a mistake and they insisted I have them. Its not easy their were times when I wanted to give up and then their were times I didn't. Thankfully I'me no longer homeless and have been able to sort myself out. I even had a number of job prospects before this crisis hit. When this crisis is over I plan on getting back into work.

I can relate to people who might seem like everyone would want to be their friends but have no friends at all.
I have never had conflicts with anyone. I've always been a good student (I'm in college now). I don't curse, I don't do drugs. In high school, I was an good athlete and praised dancer. I also try to help others as much as I can, even if that just means giving them homework answers so they can get good grades. My problem? I'm just really shy and awkward when it comes to social situations :(.
I don't have any close friends even though I live in a college campus with thousands of people my age. But nobody wants to put the time to get close to someone who lacks social skills as much as I do. And they don't have to, but it still sucks ☹.

Firstly, if someone wants to do a good thing, you shouldn't have to think negatively. It is up to him/her whether he/her doing it with truth purposes or not. You are only the audience, you don't have any rights to direct their actions. You don't know behind the scenes and post-production. So, shut up and mind your own business.
Second, let's talk about me. I live with my family. They absolutely know my real intention. Whenever I am, I will always try to not doing and thinking about bad things. So, who are you? You don't even know me. Come to my house and you will know what will I do for you as I did to my friends who visit my house.
Third, I didn't choose people for offering my help. I don't care whether they are good or bad, rich or poor, young or old, male or female, black or white, as long as they need my help, I am open to anyone.
Do I have to tell you all of these? No, I shouldn't. But you make me want to show my cards.

I was able to get EI, but that ran out and I still had no job. Now I wasn't in near as bad a position as this guy, I was able to live with my parents, but I just remember the hopeless feeling after going so long without a job, like how can I get myself out of this position I'm in? London has many shelters available for the homeless and most have a social worker attached to the team, it is possible to get help, it looks like he is in central London and Webber Street near Waterloo station is open 6 days a week offering support , food and clothing and advice for people, this is a humble polite person having to cope with bereavement he needs people to talk to, there is the Salvation Army that also offers similar support based in Oxford Street tragically Covid 19 has forced these places to close and I have no ideas of any alternative at this point in time

England also have a dole/social welfare system so I think the reason why they’re not on it is because they have been denied for a reason. I would think they get benefits like Australians. Government housing takes like 10 years to get here unless you are vulnerable single mother etc.
They do go to churches and have shelters but don't think they allow them to stay for long.
A lot of the people are drug affected and suffer from poor mental health so you would need to actively help them help themselves and even then they get soo accustomed to being homeless that it's hard to change their perspective.
It's the whole "You're 18 get out mentality". If you force your child to go study and bar them from working and then on a whim decide to throw them out cause between 17 and 18 they magically become an "adult", then you need your head and heart examined.

I am from France and everyone here is shocked when I tell them how SF really is...People with mental disorders left on the streets, young people with seringues in their arms and homelessness everywhere and nothing is done whatsoever...Cars break ins are a MAJOR issue there and authorities dont give a F. Everyone got their car broken in at least once(and this rule didn't spare me). Then next to this you have super rich hipsters with their dogs acting like it does not exist. And on the top of it it cost a shit tone to live in this hell.I hate this city with all my soul.

Why are people criticizing and automatically dismissing this young man's story as a lie? People have commented on his pupils! First of all,he has dark eyes, so that's not easy to see. Second of all, it's not exactly bright sunshine outside, and it looks kind of dark. A normal person's pupils will be dilated under those conditions.
People have commented on his age, in disbelief that he's 19. Well, I believe he is 19, but he just looks rough around the edges because he's spending his time outside in drab weather. Try doing that and still look as young as you should. He also looks depressed. Depression will not exactly bring out the youth in someone.
Somehow, I believe his story, and, I hope that he will get help to get on a path to housing and a job. A 19-year old life is too precious to waste. He needs help before he gets entrenched in living a street life. I wish he had some family to help him.

I think people criticize it because it’s easier to push the thought away. that way you don’t have to look into his eyes, feel his pain, and desire to help him somehow. you’ve gotta admit ‘he’s human and he’s down on his luck and if he’s that way, then maybe one day I could be too.’ but people generally don’t wanna think they could ever be put into a situation like that. just like Sean here. it makes sense though. why *would* you want to? so... consider that their disbelief is just a buffer in order to protect themselves from taking Sean and people like Sean home

I hear of homeless youth (and others) everywhere, even in Australia. Well done Canada if you have managed to stop this. It is so inhumane for people to be left outdoors with no safe shelter or base to call home while they get their lives back on track. Yet I hear of animal welfare societies giving what they can for disowned animals. By no means this is a bad thing but I wonder why some people think human lives are worth less than animals. I hope you can help this young man or others; so very kind of you Level With Me.
