You've managed to get some amazing sounds out this rather difficult to program synth! Buyers need to keep in mind that it doesn't have built in effects. I think that the synth would have been a LOT more popular if they had added an effects processor to it like the M1 and D-50 at the time. Also, Casio always seemed to go with the lowest bidder for their preset sounds. That really hurt them too. Anyway, great sounds, it make me wish I still had mine!
Thank you so much for sharing your patches with us. I'm just getting back to work with my VZ-1 and your patches will help me remember how to program. Thanks again, José!
I was thinking about getting this i have a kodamo essence fm mk2 very powerful fm synth. But i like the casio for his phase distortion flavour and lush fm.
Both the VZ-10m and VZ-1 are built like a tank. In addition, the VZ-1 has an excellent keybed and 3 wheels (pitch + MW1 + MW2). MW2 has a spring like the pitch bend so it's also an excellent master keyboard.
There is one sound set that I have not seen is the " Sound Source Unlimited Masteram collection" Totally drippy trippy sounds!! 64 ops + 64 voices. Have you heard of this collection? Peace PS your demo is slammin', I still have my VZ1, bought brand new from Sam Ash in NYC 48st Guitar Row!!. IN1992, I WILL NEVER,EVER, EVER, EVER, SELL IT!!
The Modeled Flute, the Pipe Organ, and the Techno Bass are simply sublime. I say the more methods of sound synthesis the better! Sure Phase Distortion and Phase Modulation are very similar, but their results are worlds apart!
Thank you so much for this great demo. It helped me decide to buy a Casio VZ-8M. I managed to load most of the sounds displayed in your demo via tha yahoo user group. I love the sounds. Great with some analog mixer eq-ing and a lexicon multi-fx.
not sure I have seen the coryell syx found the rest in the Yahoo group. I have been using the VZ editor on the ST to come up with patches. What you show is great there is so much the VZ can do, I'd go as far to say the next closest keyboard is the Korg Trinity as far as capability goes.
Totally underrated Instrument!!! Especially these hardsync type sounds are beyond yamaha fm. It seems like VZ has a little from everything. Fortunately VZ ain´t pricy. Too much I´d like to give it a try but I´m completely through with vintage trouble shooting BUT if it were just (or still) on the market I´d certainly grab it without hesitation.
You can easily find a second-hand unit for less than $200. Its sound is powerful and the hardware is robust and virtually unbreakable. It's worth a try. BTW, it's recommended to use an external fx unit (reverb/delay) because the VZ has not an internal FX section.
José Ángel Morente Currently there is one VZ-Keyboard availaible for about Euro 300+ but with return option. I´m insecure because overall having 5(!!) damages in transit as recipient. Shall I take it or wait for a cheaper offer (or VZ10m) (possibly without return option)? Besides I remember the flashy Hohner HS2. It looks even better. Maybe it´s difficult finding "The White Casio" & return option in one.
Get a Casio VZ10m instead. It's less expensive and you will save some space. I sold my Casio VZ1 and bought a Casio VZ10m (I have too many keyboards...)
José Ángel Morente Space? God! I Having 70+ synths I know what you mean. Thanks for the advice & convincing demo. My watching out for VZ10m or the flashy HS2/E is your guilt :-)
It was available for download on the now extinct Yahoo Groups site. The original download is not available anymore but I managed to back some groups up before they went offline. You will probably find it there: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1DKF1pRVexv2zEoJmnBBNUkxi1gpWBQIo?usp=sharing
@AGWhiteman As for adding effects to the VZ, it's not always required as the patches can be very dynamic also you have the Operation Programs, saying that I aim to plug a Korg Kaos Pad in one day ;)
A VZ is an FM synthesizer. On the other hand, the FZ is a sampler with an analogue filter. Both are great instruments, yet quite different from each other. If you don't want to mess with ancient floppy disks and long load times, the VZ is better. But if you're on the experimentation side, the FZ could be a very interesting beast.
Hola Jose! Good job! It s a nice synth. Unfortunately many of these sounds are not available any more on the net, especialy as the ones found on Vee Zee are corrupted. Hopefully you still have your data and you are willing to share with me. Specialy I d would like to know if someone has the Bitley patches awailable and willing to share... It is realy a pitty that these patcches for older synths in general are about to vanish. Lots of dead links out there :( Gracias
All of them are still available here: groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/CZ-VZ-Files/files/VZ%20-%20Sounds/ Just register on Yahoo Groups and join the group to gain access to the soundbank repository. I fixed the VeeZee corrupted files some time ago and uploaded them to this group.
José Ángel Morente Hola Jose! Thats cool. Did I miss Cliff 1? And no Bitley? Or are these in Tims ones? Anyway, this has been a big step forward for me and hopefully for many to come. Great synth but a "dolor en el culo" to edit... Even with editors. Each good patch might be the base for many new ones... Many thanks for your support! Gracias Jose and cheers to all!
I agree. It is a beast (in the best and the worst sense of the word). Btw, thank you for help keeping alive this baby. There is no other synth (hardware or software) that can rivalize with the VZ-1 and I hope mine will last forever.
José Ángel Morente Hola Jose, but thats black ans withe painting... I fully agree that it is a very strong colour, but it is only one colour... During these hollidays I had the opportunity to revise a few of my synths. Closest to this beast a TG77. somehow similar but easier to edit. Morpheus, very good in pad and textures due to his filters. Then I checked my Alesis S4 for SFX and found out that this one has the pressure to kick you easily out of bed. Also a Wavestation SR able to modify the sound not only on the base of filters but also on wavesequences. So many beauties! So many cheap underestimated synths! also must mention the TX81z sov well programmed over velocity that you have pleasure to play one patch for hours and hours... I must admit that I m often sad when I find out that a synth has been edited to a sound to he does not belong to and where it is not much more than a GM module.. But yes, I fully agree that a VZ10m is one of the best beasts out there. :)
My ex girlfriend give me this keyboard but unforunately i cant get the vcard cause i got used to use VST KOntakt and any other ;p but im so impressed with the sound from external card you shared
jefry hariyanto Well... it isn't actually an external card. I used SYX files for the demo (and loaded into the synth via MIDI). So... you can enjoy these all sounds (and a lot more) without the any addiotinal VCard.... just use a MIDI interface
aha..i got that..same as my korg x5 can be using the midi interface to import sounds, well, can i get the link?seems like the links are dead now :( please kindly share it here bro,, very thanks for that

I LOVE my VZ synths. I also LOVE my FZ keyboards!!! Awesome keyboards!
I've never played with a VZ. I love the CZs. These are very cool sounding patches. Very 80s, I love em.

@@JoseAngelMorente It can make ppg wave style sounds, right?
@@chinossynthesizer705 sure, al least some of them (e.g. the PPG's voices, check sounds at 0:35 and 0:48)

Hi awesome sounds in vz-1 can you tell some of the difference between vz and fz ..I would be thankful

The VZ-1 plugin for MIDI Quest does the job pretty well. Only for Windows, though.
