The Barnetts Yeah, and I played countless volleyball matches back then. I had MP5 way before I had MP4 so it took me by surprise that MP4 has an even bigger version of the volleyball minigame.
I played this mode way more than the actual Party mode when I was a kid. I'd argue it's the best part of the game, honestly. Though Mini Game Wars was also pretty fun.

They were doing Legend of Zelda Four Sword Adventure with Stephen Georg of StephenPlays and StevenVlog fame (everyone except Chugga and to an extent Masae went home on the 29th, but actual filming finished on the 27th). If you want to catch a glimpse, look at the StephenVlog videos from those days. They usually don't do the same game more than once unless there was something that was missed or got messed up, or if it's a recurring filler series (like Dokapon Kingdom).

Some of my biggest memories of Mario Party 5 were solo. I had no friends... or at least, it was a long time for the one friend I did have to come over. To compensate for this solo party, I would cheat by hooking up a second controller any time someone came close to the star or just have a second "human" controller and just have that guy throw his mini game. I had like one friend at this time but it was close enough really. I ended up doing something stupid to lose him anyway so I always played this game and cheated to make up the difference!
There is one reason and one reason alone I thought of this game as one of the best Mario Party games as a kid. Not because of nostalgia but because I only played minigame modes and only played the good ones
When you do play Mario Party 9 and you get to Blooper Beach, can you use the Coral Explorer and sing the Beatles song Yellow Submarine? Oh, and can you show Jon and Tim all the constellations?

If you all land on a normal space you have a 1 in 8 chance to have a "everyone for themselves" mini game, 3 in 8 chance to get a 2 vs 2 mini game, and 1 in 2 chance to get a 1 vs 3 mini game.
And people think that Mario Party in a car is a bad thing. And I just realized that what they're trying to do is turn Mario Party into Mario Kart. How did I not think of this sooner?

The mini-game circuit is quite similar to the lego racer board game back in the 90's, in which one can build a track used a spinner to move, and had 4 karts racing to complete laps.
I think a majority of the budget DID go into everything but the Party Mode boards because there are a LOT of other modes outside just Mini-games! They still have Super Duel Mode, all the Bonus Games, AND the story mode boss game.
King Bomb-omb appears fairly frequently actually, making appearances, in Mario Party 9, Island Tour, and Mario and Luigi Paper Jam. If you want a Mario character that we don't see anymore, just look at Wart or Tatanga. (or any OC from the Mario RPGs).

Knowing your opponents and your own skill level odds for each mini-game appear to be very crucial for this mode of Mario Party 5.
