We've sailed in the BVIs three times and once in the Abacos for two weeks. We loved them both. Personally I think it's hard to make a direct comparison as they are different. Some specifics are that we covered fewer miles in the Abacos (on a like for like basis) and the depths are shallower there so needed to plan around the tides more, especially as we were in a monohull. The Abacos felt a little friendlier, we had more conversations with locals there. BTW - I loved your drone shots, they really put things into perspective.
We lack in confidence talking on camera, we try and compensate by adding good information! haha. But we are trying, and enjoying putting the video together! Thanks for watching and the kind words! Cheers
What an AMAZING video you have made here! I have Bareboat in Exumas, a lot in Puerto Rico, USVI and BVI's; I haven't sailed Abacos yet but, thanks to this video, this will be my next Bareboat family charter for Sure!!! Very Instructional, fun and pretty views! A Gem! Maybe you can do another one with the remaining footage, about personal experience, what to do and what to avoid! Things like that! You have just got new followers here! Cap'n Irv!
Thanks Cap’n Irv! For watching and for the positive comment! Each destination brings so many different things to the table, but the Abacos definitely compete in terms of a charter destination. The Exumas and Spanish Virgin Islands are as well! We will be back in the BVI in November (first time in a few years), so we are looking forward to it! We have recycled the Abacos footage about as much as we can creatively! Haha, but we both work two jobs and try to head towards blue waters as much as we can! So bare with us, we are still new and learning. But will keep putting out videos as long as people get entertainment out of watching them! Thanks again! Cheers! Brian and Jillian
I have sailed in the Abaco area for over 10 years, I hit almost every spot you do, I think it is way better than the BVI, calmer, easier, and tons of great places to just drop anchor and chill,,, My favorite place was Treasure Cay, however still not recovered from Dorian, but I heard just recently sold and hopefully coming back. Plan to retire shortly and give the Exuma's a grand tour!
If you like a BVI like experience, the Abacos are good. But if you like finding a million dollar beach with no one in sight, go to the Exumas or even more so, the Ragged Islands in the Bahamas.
@@ralphholiman7401 the Exumas are on our list! But man is it pricey to charter a boat there! We will get there eventually! Hope to spend plenty of time there once we get our own boat!
We have been in the Abacos for 3 charters. 1 charter, we had some kids and a few fisherman, and another week we had high winds and weather. But arguably you can get some great sailing in the Abacos. Once you get further north it would be typical to be head into the wind on the way back! But on the flip side, once you head back north from Little Harbor you should have an easterly trade wind on your beam the whole way back North. We sail as much as we can weather & crew permitting… We are contemplating the Abacos or the BVI for June 2025! Maybe we will see you down there!
Hi Great video. Quick question- what time of year was that video taken as it appears there are less crowds around ? pubs are empty and anchorages not so busy ??
We spent a week in the Abacos in May 2023, and two weeks this year, the last 2 weeks in January. Both trips were comparable in regards to the amount of other boats. The water in the Bahamas in much chillier in the winter months, than it is further south in the BVI! Much colder! But both trips were great and so much less crowded overall! Thanks for watching, and for the question! -Jillian and Brian
Headed there early July 2024. Have barefoot chattered with Navigare in BVI. Did you use an itinerary that they gave you? Starting to plan our trip. Thanks!
2025? The chart briefing that Navigare did there at Marsh Harbor was hands down the most detailed and informational chart briefing of all of our trips. Some companies (even Navigare) at a few places have replaced detailed briefings with videos, or just a basic Q&A. But they used a projector and went page by page through a recommended itinerary. We basically stuck to it. But having been, we would feel comfortable diverting from It, now that we have laid eyes on the Abacos. Would be overkill if you were familiar with the area, but since we were new to the Abacos, the briefing was very useful! Hope this helps
Sorry. Yes next July 2025. Will do the briefing for sure. They were great in the BVI and expect the same in Abacos. My crew are looking forward to the trip. Thanks again.
I love both. However the drinks are better in the Bahamas. You walk into a bar in BVI's and ask what their house drink is and all of them say "Pain Killer". In the Bahamas - Nippers Juice, Blasters, Turtle Racers, Grabbers, Goombay Smash...etc. All fantastic!!
Best Abaco video I have seen yet! I'm a yacht captain and this is going to be very helpful for my trip next month!! Thanks
Thanks for the kind words! Hope your trip is great! Cheers!

Great video on the Abacos. Glad you spent time somewhere other than Hopetown.
Hope town is great. But so were all of our other stops! Thanks for watching!
Great video! I took some notes, more concise and informative than most other Abaco videos I’ve seen. Well done
Thanks for the kind words! And for watching. Cheers!

The Thirsty Cuda is awesome!
Unfortunetaly we haven’t ever gotten to experience it! They have never been open when we come through! But we’ve heard stories!
I'm one of these captains doing research on places to go in the Bahamas. Heading there from Fort Lauderdale hopefully in April.
Hope the video helped! Enjoy your trip!
Great video. Curious…How much sailing were you able to do vs motoring around? Headed there this coming June. Thank you.

@ we already have an Abacos trip in the works for June(ish) 2026! Looking forward to getting back there!

Very true! A-lot more character in the Bahamas! But we do love a good Painkiller too!
Do you know if there is there a ferry from Marsh Harbor to Miami or Ft Lauderdale ?
If so it would be the Balearia ferry. We haven’t ferried over. But I am sure it would be an option
Turn on stabilization
We are learning! Got home from the trip and realized somehow it had gotten turned off for a few days… But thanks for watching!
Chances are better that you won’t be ______ in the BVI.
Guess you never heard of those cruising guides or other sail channels that have already done this
Thanks for the positive comment! 🕺🏻
