    Hi Cowboy Pilot: At about 0:34 (min:sec) you note a glide slope ratio for the Tecnam P92 is 6:1 to 7:1. I don't know to which model of the P92 you are referring, but the flight manual for the US-LSA P92 Super Echo states 12.8:1, which better than the approximately 11:1 for the BushCat. Both the BushCat and P92 are at the maxiumum LSA gross weight of 1,320 pounds when fully loaded. Both are high wing aircraft. When both the BushCat and P92 are equipped with the Rotax 912ULS engine, their rate of climb is about 1,000 ft/min at maximum weight at sea level and 20 Celsius. In landing configuration with full flaps, the P92 Super Echo has stall speed of 39 KCAS while that of the BushCat is 38 Knots. So far, very comparable aircraft. VNE for the BushCat is 90 knots, but for the P92 Super Echo the VNE is 127 KCAS. At maximum take-off weight at sea level the take-off roll is 472 ft and the landing ground roll is 235 ft compared to approximately 197 ft and 328 ft, respectively, for the P92 Super Echo. The difference between the two aircraft is the essentially the wing (construction materials aside). The BushCat has a bigger wing with a wing span of 31.5 ft and wing area of 142 ft 2 in compared to 28 Ft 6.5 in and 129 ft, respectively for the P92 Super Echo. Both aircraft have the same wing chord at 54 in. If one wants a faster aircraft, the easiest thing to do is shorten the wing. Both are training aircraft. The P92 cruises faster. The BushCat is optimized for those who want to "go low and slow." It has a longer take-off run but then its ground roll is 235 ft compared to 328 ft for the P92 Super Echo, which is nearly 100 ft or 40% longer than the BushCat. Same engine, albeit with a different propeller, so the energy management for landing is different between the two aircraft. With a bigger wing, expect to the BushCat to float more on landing and take-off than the P92. The CFI in the video is coaching you through the transition to the BushCat with power adjustments on landing and the use of ground effect to gain airspeed on take-off.

      Good catch on that. At the time I thought it was the glide ratio but in reality the issue was the Flight characteristics of a STOL landing. I was used to coming in and landing at 55 to 60 mph which would make the Tecnam pretty much stay right down the center of the runway whereas in a STOL landing you have to use a ton of Rudder and a fair amount of ailerons to keep it from floating off the runway right or left with any kind of breeze that hits. So in short It wasn’t the glide ratio messing me up as much as the incredibly slow speed we were landing at.

    Hey thanks for doing this video. I'm thinking about getting the Bushcat. I normally fly PA28 and I recently took a flight in a SkyRanger Swift to get a feel for the smaller birds. Initially scared the hell out of me but I'm told that's normal coming from heavier aircraft. Settled in after a while and it was fine but it is a completely different thing to fly. I still can't get my head round the flap positioning in these aircraft. Thanks again for the vid and good luck - you'll soon be getting it.

      Yeah I hear you it’s a bit scary for me too but 7hrs in the air and over 600lbs useful load is pretty amazing.. On top of that you can take off and land in 200-300 feet

    Hang in there, you'll get it... I fly an RV12 w/ a 13:1 glide ratio... It takes getting used to..

      Appreciate it, I was slightly embarrassed with my rough landings lol

    may i ask you a favor? when you're making unicom calls--please state the airport at the end of the transmission too? (like the instructor) so many airports in central florida!

      Thanks for the feedback I was actually calling it out but for some reason it was cutting out on the feed.. I’ll try to take a few extra seconds before talking to see if that helps.. the airport is KDED in Deltona, hope that helps!

    How was the noise and wind inside the cabin when compared to the P92?

    • @cowboypilot3710
      @cowboypilot3710  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There wasn't a noticeable difference in noise levels. The P92 doors seal better so wind is less as well but I wouldn't say the Bushcat has an issue with cabin wind.

    I didn't think you did that bad with it. You were probably more nervous than anything. So airspeed and fly it all the way to the ground, right? You mentioned getting that side push as you were floating in ground effect. Well, ya ok, but you have controls to avoid letting the wind have it's way with you and at some point you would have/will learn what airspeed is required to lessen that float. It's all learning. You weren't dangerous, just not as perfected as you will be if you keep flying this new to you aircraft. You will be a Bushcat instructor within 50 landings :)

    What camera did you shoot this with?
    ND filter?

    3000 RPM / 60 MPH fly the airplane to the ground - hold it off and when you want to land pull the power off. That is what works for me. Just like at the 4:00 Minute mark in this video - th-cam.com/video/KXKxsRE9-sA/w-d-xo.html
