Not very true to life ruleset, imho... Ferdinand already was overtaxing the engine to the point that it could burn out climbing an incline. Elefant was further overloaded so the issues were magnified. Further, it was actually very vulnerable from the sides, without need for penetration - the internal gas tanks on it’s sides could be set off by kinetic force of non-penetrating shots aimed at it. Rules certainly represent what Germans were hoping it would be like, not what it actually was in the field.
I proxy ferdis so i can use my Jagdtiger models, but they are great to defend objectivs, and guard against any wild is 2 or churchill flamer-tank the other player might bring to the table. (we have a kind of hw armor meta in my gameing group) they are one of the best tanks for germany right now, with there (low) point cost vs tigers and panthers
@@onomatopoeia7505 i only use my jagdtiger models as ferdinands, the high armor and pen is enough for taking out most tanks in the game, while staying safe from most frontal attacks.
Should have a rule that every time it moves roll a dice, on a 1 or 2 it becomes immobile. Early Panther models should have this rule to, every time you do a move above tactical. Haha.
@@AllMiniaturesGreatandSmall Was meant mostly as a knock on the reliability of the tank during the war. But after thinking about it, could be interesting for an 'advance' rule set so to speak for players looking for more challenge to add some of these quirks. They look like a lot of fun but at that point cost I am not sure Pzr IV/70s (Unless I missed something) are not a better deal for the "Gun line" to slow the "Hated Communists"...
i suppose not, i guess when playing casually with friends you can set up a house rule with the elefant where at the end of every german turn you roll a dice and if it’s a certain number the tank’s destroyed
I don't see any MGs on those "Elefants"... :D I am really surprised with the load of negative rules they put on the Hetzers that these guys have zero. Do you think that was a mistake on a 17 armor tank? I would think they should have 'overloaded' at a minimum. As was mentioned, it does not reflect the real life issues of these things. They seem to be the best heavy armor in the game right now, do you not agree?
They don't have MGs because the first version of the tank did indeed not have any close defence weaponry. When they debuted at Kursk, this flaw quickly became known, and they gave the newer tanks machine guns (and changed the name to Elefant). Battlefront did the same on purpose with the earlier version of the Ferdinand (found in Fortress Europe) and the newer version (called the Elefant) in Bagration.
@@onomatopoeia7505 Yeah, I know. The actual figs they are using are not Elefants, they are Ferdinands because they have no hull mounted MGs. It is why I put Elefants in quotes with a laughing face after it (:D).
The technology behind this is better suited for a conventional car. How did they manage the power output of the engine without modern semi conductors? Did they just convert the enegy into heat when it wasn't needed? Did it have big batteries and resistors?
If u haven't yet, check the tank museum channel, better place to find some answers about armour, maybe they even made a video about the Elefant or Ferdinand.

I have mine on preorder with my german book, hoping they ship early next month. I appreciate the breakdown.
My friend gave me a printed one that he got from a friend. I'm excited to field it.

probably just a typo

What kind of rules do you use for playing a Jagdtiger? Since BF don't have (new, version 4 rules) models yet.

Sure, but if you give it such a crippling rule how much cheaper do you make it in game?

no rules on the multiple malfunctions those things suffered from?
The elefant is way too strong because its not completely immobilized after crossing a fence

Special overworked Maybach engine rules 😆
uuuuu lovely unit. I did a review of a zvezda one looks nice also.
These are resin/metal right? If they come out in plastic I’ll try them but I have enough Panthers and Tigers to open a zoo.
The intro says soviet captured tiger, a typo?

Nope, with a unit of one you would only need to test if that one tank was bailed out.
