Instead of using the wood like a sill plate, I used like a head to add more structure. I used something like 3" or longer deck screws to screw into the wood where there were holes in the pipe. I did cut sill plate pieces for the end base and flange pieces so those could be screwed into those plates. Then I hole sawed in the sill plate pieces so I could drive ~3-4ft lengths of like pin footing pins at maybe a 35-40 degree angle so like bipod or tripods to help hold the whole thing down.
You can use the old pipes and joints from the old canopy as well to make more frame structure... just cut the pipes or use fence top rail or emt conduit if not enough pipe looks like. Never thought about using the adhesive on the pipe... though that's for maybe when I move mind and cover with metal most likely. Maybe two strips of polycarb to let light in on the roof I'm thinking... maybe on the sides too.

Great idea, that sounds pretty bomb proof! If my current setup fails, I am going to do this. Thanks for the input!

@@MetalTentDiaries Yeah, about the only other upgrade I can think of is the sheet metal for the roof and sides, with possibly leanto shelters on each side using fence top rail and wall mount rail ends or maybe the T clamp in some way I haven't thought of yet. Those I've thought about more for the ends to make more fancy like one or two I've seen on TH-cam so looks like whatever entrance facade you prefer like barn or pit stop. I've also though about making a base with stone or maybe gabion fence if sturdy so can have a loft second story on the inside. Do like a 4ft wall whatever even if cinder blocks with where the posts are pour solid. I forget if I had posted the videos in my shorts regarding or not.

You did a good job on your canopy.
It should be 10X better the way you put it up.
    👍👍

Was considering getting this item and came across your video. Great vid, btw, really helpful. I would be setting mine up on concrete, however, and have been looking at weight options. My research online so far suggests 80 lbs per corner for 10x20 tent. How has your tent been holding up with your DIY improvements? How did you determine how much weight to add to anchor your tent?

My dude! Just use that black Gorilla tape on the slip joints... problem solved! Assemble the roof frame, tape up the slip joints before proceeding... keep it simple, brother!

Hey can you put this on BARE ground? I have to BUY more stuff? wow mannn! Buy plywood? I plan on just having the whole thing on bare ground and probably put like tarp or something below each pole leg .. Do I NEED self tapping screws? Mandatory? or can I just get by using teflon tape? clear teflon tape.

My man! Do you know if 2002-2007 chevy express van rear seats will mount up in the older G series vans?

Unfortunately I ripped out the seats as soon as i got our express van so i don't remember exactly. I do know our slightly newer (2006) Express van uses a rail system and the g-vans just bolt straight into the body so if its the same setup, i bet it would work if you moved the whole rail system.

It shouldn’t came with some bolts. The holes in the poles are for the bolts to hold them together

Trying to figure out why people aren't putting the fabric on when you get the roof built. Then just add the bottom after.
