Do you ever wonder what the musicians thought of this when they first saw the sheets? Did they know what a classic this was to become? That it would be considered one of the best scores of all time? I surely hope they appreciated it then and now.
I read an interview with the great Denis Wick, whom was principal trombone on the LSO and played principal on Episode IV-VI. He stated that a lot of the music would sometimes be done in one take, maybe with one short 10 minute rehearsal before hand. The orchestra was famous for its sight reading abilities, something that is not always so easy to have when you are performing the same repertoire over and over as a lot of orchestras do. The LSO however had been doing regular studio sessions for Movies since the '40s, so by the time Star Wars was made in '77 the bar was very high in the LSO for sight reading.
Troy Andrade I couldn’t find anything from John Williams, but on Omni Music Publishing there are film score books for movies such as Batman (1989), The Matrix, Back to the Future, etc.
I do smile and I shed a tear as well, Kathleen Kennedy, Ruin Johnson, and JJ Abrams took all hope from the galaxy, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau are our only hope.
I remember at 2 years old. Episode 2 just hit theaters. So my mom put on Star Wars in its true untouched form. My mom still has pictures of myself when the death star 1 blew. My face was like :O. Then after watching that. My love for star wars grew. I thank star wars for helping me be myself even when I'm bullied. Lucasfilm made me realize my destined job. A film director, actor, and producer. Soon my name will be on the big screen!
I saw this movie in the theater when it came out in 1977. As the end credits flashed on the screen, I TRULY felt I had been "a long time ago in a galaxy far far away".

0:17-0:48 Everything about this section is perfect. It's a perfect antithesis to the Imperial March, just as simple, just as iconic, but the sense of heroism and defiance is unmistakable.
I can see it all, han and luke going through the room, princess leia smiling as shes giving them medals, chewie's roar, and c3po hugging r2d2... Then the black sky full of little stars. The nostalgia is incredible
Used this when I had to go get my diploma. We were in a big meeting room & there was this big hallway leading to a desk. I asked a friend to play this song on a big hifi.
Reminds me of one time when I was walking down the school corridors with a group of my friends and this came on my iPod playlist. One of the largest grins I think I've ever given.
In 1977 a legend was created. That legend's name, is Star Wars. It had action. Romance, and banter. It was a comeplete hit with that generation. Now 2015 that legend continued into The Force Awakens.
i can only imagine being one of the first people to see this in theaters and how their reactions were not knowing this was going to be such a successful franchise even decades in the future

Brandon MacLeod Aren't you imaging transformers instead of star wars? even so some pople out there somehow love transformers (which shows the respect the fans have to star wars...)
I always loved how ANH managed to round off its story on a high note and yet leave questions unanswered and an evil yet to be fought. A perfect ending to a 1st of 3.
My wife surprised me with this song as she walks down the aisle. I was absolutely Blown Away because I had mentioned it and she was like no that won't work. It was incredible
+Cillin Flaherty (Snackboy123) my favorite part in star trek was when voldemort used the one ring to defeat doctor who but then Jar jar betrayed voldemort and decapitated him with the Excalibur light saber
+Michael Shen the movie is about war mostly yes, this song is not though, its about victory and happiness, so is the scene and thats what it means when it is played at a wedding. I at least find it a lot more personal and meaningful than the typical son they always play traditionally.
"Without John Williams, bikes don't really fly. Nor do brooms in Quidditch matches. Nor do men in red capes. There is no Force. Dinosaurs do not walk the Earth. We do not wonder. We do not weep. We do not believe. John, you take our films, many of them about our most impossible dreams, and you make them real for billions of people." -Steven Spielberg on John Williams
In conclusion, this is the greatest film of all time. On the cultural affect that this amazingly enduring motion-picture to this very exact day. Characters, the musical score, direction, screenplay, marketing strategies, box office phenomena, nearly everything that we have all come to expect from hype, & expectations coming from a movie, all relate from this film. Given low expectations, an unknown cast in exception to the late, great Sir Alec Guinness, nobody perhaps saw the success of Star Wars coming to exceed ANYONE'S consciences. Turns out that it did. And continues to progress further for a new era, the generation today.
Still I cry every time I watch the scene and listen to the end credits. I first saw Star Wars when I was 14 years old at the Dominion Theatre Tottenham Court Road London in 1977 when the movie was first released here in London. I will never, ever forget it. The experience of the movie changed my life forever.
5:11-5:30 This piece right here John used again in the end of Return of the Jedi, but made it more epic. This and that just scream “Grand Finale”, especially VI. To me that just pops the question at that moment in that galaxy: “What now?”
They literally played this on loop at my high school graduation instead of Pomp and Circumstance, and it's probably the reason I was crying like a baby when I graduated.
That Trumpet guy was killin it.
Vordt of the Boreal Valley yes I would love to meet that guy or his trumpet
and then you realize a proper orchestra has more than one trumpet man
damn.
@@derpking3970 I saw the score and at the beginning two trumpets played and then they played a repeat when trombones joined.

Probably that it was over the top and too regal for a space opera. Which is exactly why it helps lend the movie legitimacy
