    Neil playing horns, tambourine, and clap trap with his feet is insane! Seen him 9 time lives and will never forget all of the countless stick tosses 12 ft in the air! R.I.P professor..there will never be another like you! Also...thank you for putting drums in the forefront of rock music and making playing drums "cooler" than playing lead guitar and singing lead vocals! Miss you much ...LEGEND!

      Personally, I didn’t think there was anything musical about Anton’s performance. He was the weakest of all the drummers. Shelia E, of course, was amazing but I think Neil Peart brought the most variety to the table but Gavin Harrison is simply phenomenal.

    I grew up watching Buddy Rich as my late Dad was a drummer. I got to see him live 6 times. I got to see Neil live 25 times. Mr. Harrison, I'm a fan of Porcupine Tree due to your stick work. You are smooth and effortless, as was Buddy. I find it interesting a number of jazz standards were played to show the talents, A Night in Tunisia, Love for Sale, The Chicken. Good stuff.

    I loved Tony Roysters the most, but he’s a legend in his prime and I’m partial to that tune!
    Gavin Harrison’s was so musical it was just unbelievable. And Dennis Chambers is simply the funkiest drummer on this planet, if they were all in the same room they’d point to Dennis to take the solo. Dennis would probably point to Roy Haynes. Roy would point to Tony and say, let’s see what the kids got. Full circle.

  • @Brokencedar
    @Brokencedar 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    A drummer most definitely put to together these soloists. Hands down the best drummers in the world. My two favorite growing up; Peart and Copeland and Bonzo of course! (RIP to Peart and Bonham) I went to a drum clinic with Copeland in the 80's. He came out and played about five minutes of 4/4 Rock in perfect time. Stopped and asked if anyone had questions like that was it. Bahahah!

    • @MSWSB
      @MSWSB ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fig Surprised me. Went beast. Copeland is best composing the most original rhythms and accents ever for songs, his solos are antithetical to his gift of making good songs legendary.

    • @toddvg6940
      @toddvg6940 ปีที่แล้ว

      Different types of drummers entirely. If Fig didn’t Copy Steve Gadd’s solos of the 80’s, We’d hear his true voice. A great player!

    • @toddvg6940
      @toddvg6940 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Copeland changed the sound & approach to drumset playing. So few have done that on any instrument. His upbringing in the Middle East inspired his unique bell use & syncopation. He added Ska to the mix & WOW. He’s not in the same league technically as these other players, but it’s not the pool he ever chose to swim in!

    • @WThomas66
      @WThomas66 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like Anton Fig, but he couldn’t carry Stewart Copeland’s snare. You obviously do not comprehend the fundamentals of percussion. Copeland was not giving a “drumming” performance here.

    I won't sell Stewart Copland short. Yes, he isn't as technical. Yes, he isn't as "showy". Yes, he technically didn't even play a solo. But how about this.
    He studied rhythm so much that he invented (or brought to mainstream) an entire new music style to light. It might not be your cup of tea but he made the reggae beat playable on a kit. He pushed through everything that our brain (as drummers) teaches us is wrong and he has never has gotten the credit he deserves.
    Just like Nicholas Barker perfecting speed metal at 20yrs old in the 90s and never getting credit. IMO Stew is a legend.

    Not Neil's greatest solo ever, but the pressure must have been enormous. Guys like Copeland and Anton Fig are phenomenal drummers but maybe not great soloists. Copeland I read, had to really be coaxed into it because doesn't consider himself a soloist. Royster Jr. is a freak of nature. And Roy Haynes is easily the classies and best dresser of the bunch!

    Amazing drummers all, but Neil Peart was the standout. In my opinion his was so much more than a drum solo, he made music.

      I think of all the Neil drum solos on TH-cam, this is one of Neil's worst. He seemed very stiff, and looked almost uncomfortable, feeling that he needed to include abridged portions of his whole solo that he was performing on the Time Machine Tour. I think he would have been better off skipping the electronic portion of the solo and extending the acoustic portion. (Just my opinion as a Neil fan, myself)
      I think Gavin Harrison, Dennis Chambers and the incomparable Tony Royster Jr were the standouts over the two weeks.

      @@DrJ-hx7wv definitely Vinnie...or Dave Weckl, Gadd, Jojo, Virgil....there are so many killer drummers out there. He could have done drum solo month and it still wouldn't have been enough to showcase the ocean's worth of drumming talent out there!
