    Thank you soo much Kirk. I just tackled 6 or so hairline cracks on my stucco. I used all your techniques. I used mor-flexx, I pushed it in with a glove , wire brushed it, and then floated it to even it out. It looks amazing. I am waiting to paint it tomorrow. I am truly grateful. 😎

      Also if you go to the Tile section at say Home Depot or Lowe's you can purchase grouting caulking for tile that also has sand in it.

    Kirk,
    I am currently working on a large job repairing hairline cracks before painting.
    It is a very porous texture, I used mor flexx and rubbed it in by hand and then blended even further with a float. The repairs are barely visible but for some reason when I paint now, they stick out like a sore thumb. It’s like the mor flexx filled in the pores where the crack was and so that part is built up more than the rest. I’m not sure why this is happening, I really took a lot of time to float it smooth with the sponge float

    Thank you for making this video and sharing your insight. Quick question, when would you feel like it’s necessary to “crack chase” a crack in stucco with a grinder? I hear from someone that they do that and then blow the dust off with a compressor and clean the area with xylene. Then apply Dymonic 100. Some of my cracks are big some are hairline, your thoughts?

    Wouldn't the expanding wood make the cracks open up more and be more visible? It just sounded counter-intuitive to hear you say the cracks are more visible when it's cool out. Thanks, keep up the good work.

      greetings BAC Dude, if applied properly stucco last ten times longer than any wood substrate.
      However, with many factors hairline cracking does occur.

    Beautiful crack patch, working from 15 years old & never knew about sanded caulk .👍👍👍👍..
    I know tile and other stuff has a cycle then some colors get discontinued. Tough telling someone their new bathroom can't be matched after making a repair, awful feeling. .
    Does that happened with your color coating, do you recommend people buying extra so many bags to have in case??

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Greetings Thomas, on color coated surfaces most just have to live with the cracks as homes shift, thus hairline.

    Is a premixed stucco patch good for a 3-4 inch wide crack that's about two feet long or should I use Mor-flexx for that? And I don't know if my Home Depot has it.

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sound to me like you'd better buy a ten-pound box of rapid-set stucco for that monster hole. If you use Mor-flexx and it shrinks when dried just add more.🤙

    Being a professional, I would never recommend painting portland based stucco finishes and therefor would not be using caulk for repairing stucco

  • @justgivemethetruth

    Great video Kirk ... something I will probably have to do at some point.
    One question though. If you did not have caulking with sand it in, could you take a bit of sand and rub it into the smooth caulk to simulate the caulk with sand in it?

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      justgivemethetruth Good question Truth dude,
      You gotta know I did just this, if fact in a video about a year ago.
      I took a tube of Sikaflex and adding some fine sand 30/30 to fill a crack, but as I said in the video Sika's the best, but it won't clean with soap and water, you need denatured alcohol and or thinner.
      I have a wild imagination,, I have tried most things that I wouldn't dare to film that actually work.
      Have a fantastic day! Kirk and Jason giordano

    Kirk, I have a smooth parged chimney, with long vertical cracks, but the adjacent parge is solid. The cracks themselves are maybe 1/8 to 1/4 inch wide at best, and not that deep. Would you recommend a caulk applied directly to these cracks, or should I deepen them with a diamond saw. What caulk would you recommend? Mor-flexx? In as much as winter temperatures can dip to -20 deg F would I be better off using mortar in the cracks?

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Evening Michael, myself, I prefer a wire brush myself simply to score and remove any and all dust, saw cutting is messy and does more damage than good as now the sides are too smooth for the caulking to adhere properly plus a saw is not only physically dangerous when cutting into walls but can cut the paper and wire too,
      Cheers

    Mr. Giordano . Can lath and plaster (stucco one coat) be applied to over existing house that already has stucco 7/8 thick ? The reason is because the stucco has let some water in. They did a bad water proof job. I have a way to secure the paper and lath. Thank You.

    • @StuccoPlastering

      Greetings Ray, no this is not a good idea.
      It's better to use quality paint as Sherwin Williams designed for stucco, then primer and paint for the longest-lasting waterproof barrier.
