- Welcome to the first of my stipulation drafts, where I have rules I have to follow during the draft portion. This one is All-Artifacts, where I have to take an artifact or card that references them whenever possible. Let's see how the robots do! Feel free to suggest new stipulations in the comments as well.

I'm down for more stipulations in the future because they keep things fresh, but personally I don't care about adhering exactly to the letter of them. I think stipulations like this are more interesting if they're something like "I'm going to draft an artifact deck." - and if that means you take ancient tomb over a talisman, or some fixing that lets you play your artifact enabling spells, or balance for that matter, that's totally fine with me. I hope other people who watch the channel feel similarly.

I do think there's something to be said for forcing yourself to try to live the dream rather than taking more moderated picks (eg. taking redundant combo pieces over mana fixing), but ancient tomb and balance are clearly in line with trying to draft the cool deck even if they don't say artifact anywhere on them (in the case of balance that's why it's so great with artifacts).

Yup, if stipulations become so strict then there's no decisions involved
I mean, with stipulations like this one, it makes a lot of sense yeah, because it still has potential to end up as a solid deck. But there might be straight up stupid stipulations, where the fun is in passing all the optimal stuff.

I think strict stipulations are useful to avoid an audible. If you are picking between a talisman and say, underworld breach, the stipulation makes it obvious what the pick is. But the more powerful choice is to take the breech, and its not like you cant just run Breach with LED to do some silly stuff even if you arent winning on the spot. And now that you have breach and LED, might as well pick up the brainfreeze and no reason not to include it.
Like the deck LSV ended up with was definitely an artifact deck, but would something like 12 mana rocks and Tendrils not also be an artifact deck? The difference between being an artifact deck and THE artifact deck is the point of the strict stipulation, imo.
I love a good stipulation draft, and honestly i think that if a card is better because it enhances the artifact strategy, like balance or ancient tomb, I'm a big fan of seeing you just snap it up.

I agree that Ancient Tomb fits the stipulation but so does Balance. They're both borderline, but I think the point should be that cards that combo better with artifacts than other cards should be the stipulation rather than specifically mentioning them. I like stipulations that push you to draft something unusual but don't punish you for no reason.

A human artificer is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
I really like this approach to a "stipulation" draft where you get to see someone who's really good draft a specific archetype they might not normally, rather than "Well I opened ancestral recall but I have to take Sphinx of the Steel Wind", that's just less fun imo.
I have fond memories of all the weird stipulation drafts Luis and Gabby did back in the day. Good ol' Corpse Dance Siege-Gang is still one of my favorite TH-cam videos!
I'm sure that this (and future videos) will provide some similarly entertaining nonsense.
LSV trying to convince Gabby that Ancient Tomb is an artifact has probably happened on stream a few times.
finally! The return of the stipulation draft! LSV stip drafts in particular are what got me into watching magic content. Now all we are missing is alternating blind picks with Gabby 👀

Stips are back! Do a “must attack with Eldrazi to win” stip (this encourages any combo that can cast an Eldrazi, in contrast to previous big creature stips which prevented taking things like sneak attack).
I like that approach, rather than "have to take x" it's building around a particular constraint or win condition.
"I still think I'm going to win if i draw a land. [Draws land] well let's find out shall we?" Classic LSV banter and I'm here for it
1) I always feel that stips should have exceptions for power and lands
2) I think that mox opal might have tricked someone into taking academy or workshop
I think 2-3 seats to the left of Luis could very reasonably have seen a relatively weak pack and speculated on academy or workshop for fun and immediately bailed after not seeing any artifacts since Luis was taking them all. Has happened to Kenji and Luis multiple times themselves.
@8:20 I'd say you could take Tireless Tracker/Thraben. Not that you'd want either, but I think it'd count. And if Lion's eye wasn't in the pack I'd say you'd have to take one of them.

A small improvement to be had, although I don't think it affected the outcome of any game but when you have zuron orb in play and your ursa's saga gets to stage 3, the trigger is already on the stack to sack it and then go get something of man of value zero or one. So you can actually sacrifice the land itself two years you're on or in gain to life, and the other trigger still plays
I'd be supportive of the ancient tomb pick because it's so good with colorless cards. It just happens to be so good it doesn't have to say artifact.
I didn't think you'd give into stip requests. I'm glad you did because I love artifact decks.
I'm also glad you took some liberties. Drafting every artifact you see is boring. Drafting cards that would be good in the artifact deck is far more interesting
I love stipulation drafts. Modest suggestion: Team Stipulation Draft. 8 of you throw 3 stips or something into a pool, everyone draws randomly, and you all draft your stips in the same pod without knowing each others. Might be fun, but might be dumb. Maybe have a 3rd party create 8 stips instead so you dont have 4 artifact deck stips.

Stipulation idea: only multicolored cards or cards to improve the strategy (e.g. lands, noble hierarch, talismans). The only exception being power. If there are no cards for the strategy you can pick whatever.
Glad to see some artifact plays, I love artifact decks. Do more of these speculation decks!
Love the stip and how the deck turned out! I feel like seraph could be cut - not what your deck wants as a 3-drop and a much less exciting welder target than kaldra or trip titan. It's just a medium midrange creature when your deck can go so much bigger

i'd like to think if gaby was seated beside you, she would have told you you HAD to pick slime ball, to which you would have agreed to, and then you'd still snap up the narset, and maybe 3-4 picks later gaby would realize it and get mad at you.
hoping we get another stip down the line where gooby is there to keep you honest, even if - and ESPECIALLY if it makes the deck less functional.

IMO in this stipulation, choosing Baleful Strix over Mox Opal is like not choosing a Mox power
I played a league after this video dropped and all 3 matches were against artifact stipulation decks. The LSV effect is real lol

This looks like my artifact drafts. Deck looks absolutely nuts then boom I'm 1-2 or 0-3 for no reason
I was really surprised to notice the difference when you changed the mic setup. it actually does something. who knew
i think the easiest combo with displacer and a planeswalker is t3feri, you just need a 0 mana or mana positive artifact and youre off to the races

I always find it amusing when LSV plays against a card and says "That card is not particularly good" then next draft he picks the same card and is like "This card is just too good." LOL I know it's because of circumstances in which the card is presented, but it is still funny.
I would like to see some stronger stipulations rather than ones as soft as what the other comments are mostly suggesting. Don't make it unfun, but it is a pleasure to see someone skilled work their way around stronger stips than just "archetype I don't normally play, everything goes". Maybe a unnegotionable stip, but with a "reverse ban list" of cards like time walk etc.

I love this stipulation, but it should be a Stipulation for an archetype instead of "All artifacts". This could open up to different stipulation episodes that will be fun!

I dunno about not bringing in vindicate already thought after game 1 that seraph does nothing and having a way to kill his PW would be good. But not bringing it in after game 2?

I would have said any colorless card is also fine, so that would include any lands you may want.

Two things rattling around in my head.
First, I think the better version of a stipulation draft would be to draft the best version of a deck possible as opposed to draft a specific type of card.
Second, while it really doesn't matter because Forth Eorlingas/nut draw, M3G3, wouldn't the better play be to spend the five mana to case Mightstone and Weakstone to kill the dragon and then cast the talisman? That would leave the construct big enough to trade and put you at relative parity?
IMO it's fine to take stuff like Balance and Mana Drain in an artifact stipulation draft. What artifact deck passes Balance?
Love me a stipulation draft, especially with a seasoned and enjoyable pro.
Forth Eorlingas is an absurd card
10:42 Twice you didn't even mention Skydiver - fits the stipulation and might actually be better than Batterskull (specially given that Stoneforge Mystic does not strictly speaking fit the stipulation since it mentions "equipment" and not "artifact")
What could be an interesting stipulation: adher by the rules of a companion, even if its not in your sideboard. Lutri of course is too easy ;)

Match 2 game 1: turn 2 was it better to play zuran orb and ancient tomb so that you could sac the saga for 2 life after the tutor trigger goes on the stack?

Stipulation Draft: Balance
I support the Ancient Tomb pick!
Im surprised the line on the last saga turn wasnt "float mana, get top, spin top" for best possible chance at hitting Balance.
I think the problem with that line is that balance doesn't do anything on that last saga turn because it would leave the dragon in play. His only out was to trade his token with the questing beast and THEN balance, which also means he didn't have life to spare for ancient tomb. If he can't use ancient tomb then he really needs to get mana with the saga.
EDIT: Watching it again I guess the reason he couldn't get top and look for balance was entirely because he made the token EOT in the first place. In retrospect he should have just not made the token and did your line....though he would have still lost to the Forth Eorlingas even after finding balance because opponent would have still had 4 mana and cards in hand after the balance and I don't think LSV could have beaten a kobold let alone 2 hasty 2/2s on 6 life turning off his ancient tomb.

These are draft leagues, so your opponent is not necessarily in the same drafting pod as you were, they just share your record

Time Walk stipulation: Any card with the word "Time" or "Walk" in it must be picked before any others. (So far as I can tell only 10 cards actually fit this stipulation in the current cube)

Seems like a lot of people like stipulation drafts, I would argue the actual draft is very uninteresting, cause you only have 1 or 2 options, so most of your picks are not up to you, and the only interesting bit are the matches. I don't feel like I gained much watching the draft and could have just skipped to round 1

I think the ancient tomb is cheating, mostly because there is a difference between forcing a deck and a stipulation. Part of the fun is being forced to miss out on "the pick" because of the stipulation. I'd be fine with it if it was one of the exceptions at the beginning though. Either way I hope you keep it up. I want to see take the 6+ drops or was it 7? The one you did during one of the Ravnica Blocks.
Lands shouldn't count in a stip
don't realy like this kind of stipulation. forcing a deck is fine but forcing yourself to bad picks is not fun
