- What a day fishing!!!! And what a meal cooked on the spot!!! So simple, and so delicious. When it comes to outdoor cooking, this was one of the best recipes I've ever made. As for the fishing, I tried out some new long shank exclusive jig heads and I've very impressed how they fish!

Right! Me too!! I'm further up in northern Cali and our lakes and rivers are flowing, a lot of the snow has melted as long as you're not going as high as the Sierra Nevadas.

Hey Matt’s, I’m an environmental studies major in Monterey. We learned you want to take a mixture of big and small fish. That way the larger fish spread there genes. If you only take the large ones, over time only smaller fish will reproduce. Probably doesn’t apply in this small of quantity, but just a cool fact anyway.
I feel like fish size is more directly related to age than genes
@@connorbyrd8151 over time smaller fish reproduce more often because all the bigger ones are being taken. This leads to an overall smaller fish over time.

Grew up in the greater metropolitan area and never was into fishing. During the pandemic i started watching your videos and wanted my son to learn how to fish. My son and i have caught a bunch of sculpin type fish and rock crab from shore. hope to catch rockfish and lingcod and cabezon one day. My buddy and I make those same jigheads here in Oklahoma for striper and hybrids. The 1.5oz is our go to during winter deadsticking season.

They usually just poop em out or let go of it after stealing it. Plastic lures are not really a problem for fish to digest unless there’s still a hook attached.
Man, I want to do this type of fishing off rocks but I'm too scared to go out on my own. It seems dangerous if you don't understand the tides and areas that are more dangerous to fish than others.

Maybe a dab of super glue on the hook shaft before sliding on the swim bait would help keep it from moving. I use this and works well for freshwater fish I chase.
Or prep a few with a dab of silicone/epoxy/whatever where the hook exits so it can't slide back

I know it's been awhile and you have a different setup, but would you still recommend a whaly boat? Wouldn't use in ocean, only river fishing (actually an estuary). Thx. I'll be sure to check out new channel. We plan on tilling, then getting a few livestock to start small.

Pro tip: Cured pork jowl is basically bacon that is mostly fat.
Cut those fillets length wise and wrap the bacon around them and cook them together. So dam good!!!
