I agree - Return to Oz is a much better film. I don't know whether that's anything to do with it being the same format as The Wizard of Oz (i.e. live action rather than cartoon). I've just watched it for the first time and my initial impression was that I didn't like it that much, but I decided to give it a chance and watch it through to the end. Having now done so, I'd say it's OK - but I still prefer Return To Oz!

Nicole M It was a book by Lois Duncan back in 1971. It has long been out of print. However a new version was written to promote the movie. I still have yet to read the new version. I will see if they have it at my local library.
The sign post is the first indication that this adventure to Oz won’t be the happy go luck one. He’s odd, uppity and not very helpful to Dorothy in the long run- which is a theme for many of the characters in her current adventure. She almost immediately gets involved with Mombi right after, hinting of the darker nature of the story.
Now its became a Cult Classic! for me its a movie like "Clash of the Titans" of the same decade! they should have marketed it the same way! for me Wizard of Oz was Unwatchable! and way the 80's were hard times for Disney and Fantasy movies in General! Siskel and Ebert didnt help either! those two retarded Distasteful Trolls, made it sound like its a Disaster! But now I think this movie getting more and more popular! I watched it as a kid in the 90's and I loved it! it was MAGICAL!
Liza Minnelli Did a wonderful job with the role. She really sounds quite a bit like her mother!

Like they did with Star Trek:TOS, Filmation came through with a perfect sequel/follow-up. They were an underrated animation studio.

Pumpkinhead is a counterpart to the Scarecrow. Just like Tik Tok and the Hungry Tiger, are counterparts to the Tin Man and Cowardly Lion.
