      @@petersmith8093 I tried growing tomatoes and chillies from seed. I got my first saplings in 4-5 days. In next 4-5 days the saplings grew to around 2-3 inches. But since then, in next 8-10 days, the saplings have not grown even 1 cm. Also out of 12-15 saplings, 3-4 have already fallen down. And seems others are also weak and may fall down soon. Is it natural? How long do sapling take to grow into a plant? Please suggest what should I do?

    I gardening for about 5 years in containers in my small backyard. I became kinda addicted to seeing how much food I could produce. I was able to feed my family of 4 veggies from our own backyard for the entire year. We also gave plenty away. We also have a very short growing season but that challenge just made it more fun to figure out. The first year I used my own compost we discovered what we call “Volunteer” veggies. We ended up growing all sorts of things that we ended up eating or canning and giving away that just grew from our trash basically. It’s pretty fun, delicious and saves us money.
    I’m gonna try this and then transplant them into those upside down tomato things. I have like 5 of them. Then I’m gonna hang them indoors in the windows. Thanks for the video.

      @@poojavijay1346 hi, so basically I put like 5 slices of cherry tomato in a pot, and I got about 50 plants of tomatoes from that experience! Mine were very slow because my garden wasn't ready to receive them. So they stayed in the pot a few months without growing more and/or producing tomatoes. It stayed at the stage of "baby plant" due to the lack of space. So I don't think I'm the right person to ask about. I think if my garden was ready in time I would have had tomatoes much faster. I planted tomatoes a month ago following your videos! It grew a lot of seedlings just like yours! :) As we only can transplant a few seedlings to a big pot, may I know what to do with the rest of the seedlings or do we just dispose the rest?
    Sorry, as this is my first time trying gardening and I'm unsure about a lot of things.

    Hi Urban Gardener Buddy what a absolute brilliant idea .... find a tomato you really like I' e flavour texture color... slice up tomatoes for how many plants you require If you don't mind a suggestion of mine .... to make transplanting seedling easier probably it would be better to plant one slice per pot ??? But any way your idea is fab man Thank for sharing your video Ed

      Edwin: You can do that, but just know that if the initial tomato was an "F1" hybrid, you will get quite different tomatoes (usually only around 50% identical). Most tomatoes you will buy in a store will be like that. But if you do it with an "OP" (open pollinated) tomato, you will get the same tomatoes.

    dont waste a good tomato eat the tomatoes after you scrape the seeds out.... tomatoes have a gel around the seed that needs to ferment to break down, this gel has anti sprouting properties so until the gel ferments or decays the seed will not sprout. scrape out seeds toss them in a glass with slightly less water in volume let them ferment to get rid of the gel for about 5 days rinse them well and plant. you will get more plants sprout from seeds then planting a slice of tomato . warning if you use a tomato from store that is not a heritage or heirloom tomato dont expect to get the same taste and character from any you grow most sold in stores are hybrids and wont produce the same plant

    • @stefanpalickimusic
      @stefanpalickimusic 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just did exactly what you've described with some overripe Kumatos. They are little sprouts as we speak! I'm just waiting for the weather to warm up and for them to get a little bigger and I will plant them.

    • @DMPB-fi2ir
      @DMPB-fi2ir 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stefanpalickimusic be aware Kumatos may not grow and produce the same tomato as the one you used too get seeds out of due to it being a cultivar ( hybrid ) i'm not sure how genetically stable that one is as a cultivar i know its been out now about 14 years since the first cross roughly so it will be interesting to hear what comes out for tomato style
