I'm not an expert gardener but I immediately see some benefits: (1) the leaves never touch the soil - this is how some leaf diseases spread; (2) influence of ground crawling insects, slugs - eliminated; (3) ability to easily move the plant as sunlight / rain / frost is adverse / beneficial; (4) only use the soil absolutely necessary to grow the plant - saves on costly inputs; (5) grass underneath hanging pots can continue to grow without interruption - so no digging, tilling - which harms soil, soil organisms, carbon sequestration; (6) rain falls on soil without interruption by plant leaves; (7) easy to access plant for pruning, harvesting. I think you could transplant earlier and avoid the danger of harming the leaves when you pull them through the spout of the bottle.
Cool video!! I'm in Australia rn, it's winter and I'm still harvesting cherry tomatoes from the strongest plants I've ever seen that sprung up around the outskirts of my compost piles lol. The flavours incredible too!!
I love your attention to details! Thank you for taking your time to film and share your informative videos! I really appreciate them. I am looking forward to watching many and learning from you.
Great for both of you. Best thing for our mind and body is to use them. What a rewarding way. This man has some great 💡ideas here. Blessings to you both
I'm so happy to have found your video. Just what my family and I need. Is to grow tomatoes this way. Thank you ,! You are a God send, God bless you for doing this for everyone to learn.
But,I’m woorried about this with .... Isn't the weight of plastic water cans too much to hang? I mean .. Plastic buckets are filled with soil, we also give water and fertilizer. Isn't it too heavy for to hang? 🤫 I was worried the bucket wouldn't hold the weight and it would tear.. Soo🙀🙀 There is a very strong wind gust where I live.. I was worried that the bucket could not carry the weight and it would tear. To hang the buckets with a rope, I think that if the places you drilled were opened a little higher, it would be a more robust mechanism🤫. So could it be more solid?
Thanks for sharing. I always thought composting took a long time but you’ve shown that it doesn’t have to. Perfect use of the plastic bottles. Everyone should try this, so simple. Thanks again.
@@giddyup4232 That was the first thing that came to my mind. I would really love to know how the watering is done, most importantly, without having water dripping from the mouth which is upside down. Nice innovation anyway.
Мартышкин труд! Радуюсь, что земли у меня много! Сильно не заморачиваюсь, и всегда с урожаем! Всё по старинке. Был бы дождик, был бы гром... Нет так, поливаю, укрываю, но без суеты...
I really liked how you started off the fresh tomato seeds in the egg boxes then carefully transplanted them into pots. Have never seen this done before. But is it not easier to just let them grow straight up thereafter, tying them from dangling strings? And do you have to water the sliced fruit & veg you added in smaller plastic bottle for fertiliser? You obviously have far greater patience and knowledge than myself but will certainly try the sliced fresh tomato for seeds bit. You didn’t show how often you watered at that stage either & presumably had to leave egg box lid open as seedling plants got bigger. Thanks for trying to educate useless gardeners like myself anyway. Am just going to watch the beginning of your video again .
I wonder if you could use clear containers to start them in? This is amazing, especially for folks that live on a tight budget and try to live off fresh vegetables as much as they can to supplement their grocery bills plus it’s so much healthier.
Sometimes seeds need germination, I thought that was pretty basic knowledge. Also seedlings are very fragile especially to diverse weather as wind or too much sunlight so are often kept in doors or in green houses before being transferred outside to bigger pots.
Seeds need the dark when starting out. About 5-7 days depending on the plants so they don't need the light until they start shooting up. That's when you leave the lids opened. Watering in those containers should be checked daily. Dip your finger in the soul, if the soul comes off on your finger it doesn't need water. If it doesn't then water slightly. Once you open the lid, place in a window and turn a quarter turn daily where the plants grow straight until you transplant them. I hope this helps. Good luck, God bless.
Composting tip: If you have an electric blender or coffee grinder, you can grind your compost with water into a mash of tiny pieces. Drain off the water, fill your soda bottle with the mash, then add back the amount of water you want.
I wouldn't bother with drain water then replace it ,, just put the lot back at once ,mash will be thin enough to pass through the lid of your final container

Neat and clever trick. Great for ornamental purposes. Not suitable for serious tomato growing though. You can tell the stalk is anemic and the fruit set is limited.
