Thank you I was really wondering about ther macaroni problem. I have tried freezing, in the freezer, pasta I've cooked and it is always pretty yucky when reusing, and now I know why! You're pretty smart to have figured it out and thank you for your persistence you remind me of my brother :)
This looks amazing! I keep trying to win a freeze dryer and praying that I will get 1. I grow a garden and have so much to put in a freeze dryer. I try to dehydrate as much as I can either outside or in the oven. I have learned how to can this year, I should have known before 53 years but I really wasn't raised around people that did, so I watched on TH-cam 1000's of videos and now I can. When I can afford jars that is. I'm disabled but can't get disability. I have had a stroke, open heart surgery, an ulcer that completely blocked food from going to my stomach and at 5' 8" and 50 yrs old I was losing weight until I was almost 100 lbs. They finally figured out what it was and blew open my stomach and then tell me that I need a pacemaker. I was like are you serious, they were..with all this my bills are out of this world so I grow food for now and try to keep as much as possible and I just keep praying that a freeze dryer will drop in my lap 😅 as I will never be able to afford 1. But when it happens and I know it will 1 day, this Mac and cheese is going to be the 1st thing I make!! I love Mac and cheese so much and this recipe looks amazing!! Thank you sir for all the testing you do to bring us these videos!!

Ok, let’s take this one step further and add freeze dried lobster 😮! Freeze dried lobster Mac and cheese. Add a little imitation butter for that buttery flavor. Or, what about imitation crab in place of the lobster. Hmmmm……John?….I think that cheese dip was very popular in the 80’s. We used to serve it by the truck load on the weekends when we had 42 (dominoes) parties with 5-6 other couples. Never thought to use it in Mac and cheese, but it sure sounds good!
I just received your new cookbook, John. Congratulations! I will enjoy leafing through it and checking out what to FD next! It's so nice to have a hard copy, not digital, and the spiral bound is the best. Take care!
Love the fact that you take the time to problem solve freeze drying! I had a problem freeze drying raw chicken breasts, some didn’t rehydrate well and the ones that did, when I cooked them they were tough and dry. Any suggestions? Can you over freeze dry? Thanks for any help. Had a problem with eggs, but you solved that for me! Thank You!!
I would use a fork and poke holes in the breasts, Here is a video where I fd whole chicken breasts (cooked though) and bring back to fresh texture/you would never guess that they were freeze dried! th-cam.com/video/UAo-E67tAlw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=pnhi50wfv5iY80I6
John, you are an absolute GENIUS!!! Thank you so much for all your hard work that you share with us! One question: is there a worry about the oils in the cheese sauce for long term storage?
Thank You, I can only offer my opinion on long term. I believe that if you use a mylar bag (7mil) and a good O2 absorber with a good seal and proper storage conditions that it should last as long as real cheese or dairy, I figure 10 years or more looking at the commercial products.
Wow I got my first batch out this morning and wow it was delicious!! I added cooked chopmeat 90% lean as my fifth tray divided into 10 portions. The meat combined with the cheese and tomato flavor really was tasty and packed with protein. Thanks John in Bibs !!
This process looks fantastic. I hesitate to use velveeta, it eats through the plastic/aluminum, can't imagine what it does to a stomach. I really enjoy your videos and the information that you provide.
THIS IS SPECTACULAR! Gold Star and A+! I am making chili to put in the FD this afternoon to prep some more meals for my husband's upcoming hunts. You better believe I'm going to now do a Chili Mac meal! (Also using your idea of making cornbread croutons to mix into the regular chili.) Love your ideas and really appreciate the time and effort to share with us!
Brilliant, I'm going to try this, I'm going to measure the volume of how much 3 squares of noodles are so I can just dump them all in a huge bowl and bag accordingly. Thank you for all your work figuring this out!
I'm like to prep for the unexpected......but it would be hard not to grab one of these for a quick dinner after a long day at work! Great outcome! Your bbq sauce trick is awesome by the way , it's an instant glaze for chicken/ burgers !
Thanks JIB !! Got my first batch in the FD now. I added a tray of cooked 90% lean chop-meat with dividers to make it a 5 tray cycle. Will try this straight as-is and then with the meat for a greek pastitsio dish. Looking forward to watching more JIB videos and helping my busy daughter feed her family.
John. I will coin a previous viewer in saying that you are an absolute genius. I have been so frustrated trying to make mac n cheese that can work out of the pouch on the go and not required additional heat source other than the hot water. I so look forward to trying it out myself. I have linked this video in my thumbs up file. When I need to replace my sealer I will be getting the one you demonstrated. Thank you sir.
I have to admit I was very frustrated to. A few years ago a viewer asked me to solve this and after a lot of trial and error we finally got there. This works so well i even made a macaroni salad using the same principles that comes back fantastically.
I am really enjoying your videos and am excited to try them. I am going to get some of the silicone trays that you used first. Do you have a video that puts a face behind the bibs?
Just found you! Thank you so much! I've made great baby foods n snacks, and you are Absolutely right about keeping it loose so things powder right. I've struggled more on adult foods, so you are saving me "trial n error" time! I find using a pastry bag makes some snacks really pretty too!
OMG! Thank you for this. I can’t wait to try it. FYI, I had a friend who made the dip with cooked and crumbled hot Italian Italian sausage, Ii was awesome with the Rotel.
Im new to freeze drying. I love all the info you include in your videos. Can you tell me where to find the tray dividers? Thanks in advance. I will definitely be watching more of your videos!
I love rotel dip made with ground beef, and i have some of that already done. Did not thin it with extra milk, but I will next time. Never though to put it on mac. I think i will go fd some mac and add a bag of mac to my bag of rotel. I have the small fd. I see you weigh 2-1/2 lbs on your medium tray, any idea how much on a small tray? I have never weighed, but i like your consistent reconstitute formula, something i should start.
Wow. Excellent job. I bought 6 gallons of chocolate milk today and put 5 gallons in my xl freeze dryer then watched your first hot chocolate video and the butter fat floated on the top. Now I have 6 gallons of full fat chocolate milk in the freezer dryer and I’m afraid I’ll have the same results. I wished I had watched that before I ordered the milk. And seen your hot chocolate video where you made it from scratch with cocoa powder. I am not expecting good results. Wish I knew how to fix it. Any advice from anyone would be great.
Hey John- Love the experimenting, this sounds great! Do you have a solution for FD hard boiled eggs for quick prepping egg salad and potato salad? All my experiments (about 7) have failed. If you are not worried about how long it takes then you will be fine. For quick rehydration I have to do the noodles separately because they require much more water than the sauce
Great video John. Was that really only a pound of Velveeta? I was buying it today and the one pound block didn't look like it would take a whole can of Rotel. (I bought 2 just in case)
Yes, it was half a 2lb block. When I make a large batch of Rotel Dip, I buy two cans of Rotel. Make sure you use the small can of rotel, not the large can 10oz can
Ok noodles are in the freezer dryer. I’ll let you know how they come out. My husband loves Mac & cheese Last time I made this, it turned out crunchy. He brought it to work. He didn’t care for it all. Never rehydrated right.
So for regular mac n cheese you would add 1 1/2 cups of milk to replace the tomatoes. Is that along with the regular 1 cup of milk that you add? For a total of 2 1/2 cups of milk?
Did you recently replace your vacuum pump? We're looking for one that isn't sold by HR as the one we got from them when we bought the freeze dryer was garbage.
Yes I did, a couple of months ago. I have been using it for 2 months with no issues but I need to see how it holds out long term, as you can see I use my FD a lot but only time will tell if it is a good deal. I like it because at least I can buy rebuild kits. I have the pump listed in my Amazon Store if you want to check it out. You can find the link to my store in the description box of this video.
@@JohnInBibs I saw the comment you made on Amazon which led me to search for you on TH-cam. We will likely buy the same one you did. We have the large freeze dryer and HR sold the same size pump with all the freeze dryer regardless of the size of the unit. Doesn't make sense to put the same size vacuum pump on a unit that processes 8 pounds of food and one that processes 16 pounds. It's undersized for the large freeze dryer. We didn't even make it through the first year before the thing started failing and HR customer's service is a joke.
@@user-li5br8in6z You will have to get an adapter to connect the hose to the pump. I got mine from fixmyfd.com don't look like he sells them anymore but you could try and use the contact button and ask him
I don’t remember if I told you or not, so I’ll say it here. You don’t need to show your face, it’s not going to increase subs. There’s another Tuber about our same age (though you’re probably a little older than me) who shows his face in every video. He has just as many subs as you. Maybe 1 thousand more, but not 2 thousand. Either you or he (my memory falls short) mentioned your main audience is our age group. You want more subs? Get a young (20-30 yr old) filly to do the presentation.
